Cedrick Delmas, marketing director of Microsoft France, shot down the growing rumor that the company will debut a new Xbox console at this year's E3 show. He tells Le Point (French site) that the cycle of the Xbox 360 is by no means complete. He says that people like to tell a lot of stories in this industry, and that he "is not convinced that things are happening this year."
He lays it all out here: "What is certain is that there will be nothing new in 2012."
He continues (via machine translation): "We are not here to deal with Nintendo and they are not there to fight against other manufacturers. Nintendo has placed itself in a different cycle, they advance at their own pace, successfully as we have seen with the Wii, and now it is their turn to present their innovation."
It's not like we need a new console, right?
Even with this said, I still think that Microsoft will debut or at least tease a new console this year. Delmas would technically be right in saying that there would be "nothing new in 2012" if this new console does not release this year.

The only thing id want improved are faster procesors for better AI in games... sell it seperatly and call it the Skynet attachment.
I'm ok with this. As SKSith said in so many words, I can wait another year, especially with the Vita and Wii-U in 2012.
Sony has their Vita to pimp and Nintendo has a re-designed and possibly re-branded WiiU to show off.
That said, I do hope MS has a stronger first party showing, because they're well behind Sony and Nintendo in that regard. They need to build some new IPs more than anyone.
And I say that as someone who just sold his PS3 and moved to 360. I recognize and appreciate Sony's efforts on a first party front, most of it just wasn't appealing enough outside of Team Ico and Sucker Punch and, well, we all know Team Ico is dead as of this year with their creative leads departing.
MS seems to just run on Halo, Gears and Fable and that's not a good way to be when they could be revitalizing so many MS or Rare IPs. I mostly moved to 360 because that's where all my friends are on multiplayer, it certainly wasn't for the first party efforts.
Though I do like me some Halo every now and then.
positives: ports from console games have a higher standard in terms of graphics, AI, and gameplay.
Negatives: The rise of pc gaming compared to console gaming may turn around making us more dependant on console ports instead of new games.
We now barely have to upgrade hardware because of the standard the consoles are setting which would change if the consoles are a bit closer to the pc in terms of graphical power.
The possible increase in motion controlled games could lead to the flawed logic of the games not working on pc.
I never bought my 360 simply for the exclusives, so it doesn't pain me or make me feel embarrassed for my purchase that the only exclusive they have this year is Halo 4. I don't even know if I'll buy Halo 4 anyways.
Lately I've been claiming that everyone making a stink about PS3 having more exclusives this year than 360 is more to do with the fact that PS3 fanboys are finally happy they can boast something.
Personally I hope the next console generation focuses more on cutting down loading times then enhancing graphics.
If the biggest compliment you can say about your game is that it looks realistic and the graphics are crisp and nice looking, chances are it's all in attempt to hide away the lame gameplay that clearly took a backseat to the visuals.
I'm wondering if there is a link between the increase in graphical ability in games, and the severe decrease in JRPG quality.

Anyway, this is typical. MS wants it to be a surprise, even though it won't be. Announcement this year, release next year.
I choose to believe him though. I think Microsoft will play up the rumors for the buzz, but I expect we'll either see something of the next Xbox next year around this time, or at E3 time.
"It's not like we need a new console, right?"
See, I don't think so. I think we can keep going as is, but two things are happening: 1) People are just tired of seeing the same shit 2) Developers making that same shit seem to think they can't make new shit without a new cycle -which isn't true at all as long as the ideas are there, which it doesn't seem like they are (Looking at you Ubisoft.)
not to mention one thing - are all of you unemployed billionaires who buy EVERY SINGLE GAME and play games 24/7? please tell me honestly, HOW MANY GAMES HAVE YOU PLAYED ON ONE PLATFORM LAST YEAR? do you guys even have life outside games? cause i work 35 hours a week and on 360 alone have over 20 multiplatform titles on my Must Have list for this year and nearly 10 exclusive 360 games - all of that JUST for retail. and just like last year i will be catching up with the releases from previous years(just picked up DJ Hero 1&2 bundle for 30$). add to that PC, DS, Wii and PSP.
it's funny considering that the only console this gen that had significant number of quality exclusive compared to multiplatform releases was the WII while ps3 for example have less than 40-50 exclusive titles while entire library consists of over 500 games. 360 have over 100 retail exclusives, but we're still talking about library of games consisting of over 700 retail games. even funnier is the fact that all those "great exclusive" still have lower combined sales than just 2-3 titles from long list of exclusive MS released last year. Sony may have more games, but their overall quality and sales are much lower compared to MS line-up and that's happening each year.
NOBODY is buying consoles to play exclusives since probably 90% of games are ps3/360 releases.
Take a deep breath, calm down and play some of those wonderful video games you bought with that hard earned paycheck you got, working only 35 hours a week.
glad to see hes back to his Sony hating form of old. i miss the sofik88 of old.
Which is why developers all over have said that games could release under the $60 dollar baseline and still make a profit right? Or do you mean "at a loss" by publishers going "Oh, we only made X amount of profit instead of Y...we should have charged more".
Whew, thanks! I was worried I had simply forgotten about all the 360's upcoming exclusives, but your failure to mention any either sets my mind at ease!
Thanks BUD
oh boy.
And Microsoft are still pretty much the only ones who believe this.
They might have been right if they hadn't been so eager to rush the 360 out ahead of everyone else and crippling it with sub-par storage media and no hard drive standard.
Everytime I hear about cut content and "we're charging for this DLC because it didn't fit on the disc" I just want to slam my head against a wall.
