No more weekly DLC 'planned' for Rock Band Unplugged photo

Wondering where the steady flow of Rock Band Unplugged content has gone? Joystiq checked in with Harmonix to see what was what, and it seems the weekly updates are done for the time being.

The developer does say it's is "very pleased with the performance of the Rock Band Unplugged game on PSP, the Rock Band PSP bundle and PSPgo start kit." However, the team that works on the DLC has turned its focused to the upcoming Rock Band Network initiative, the steady stream of weekly content for the console titles, as well as "unannounced future projects."

I enjoyed the game, and being "the Rock Band" guy on the Destructoid staff, you'd think I'd be saddened by the news. But the truth is, I haven't purchased a single bit of DLC for Rock Band Unplugged since its release. Jim Sterling, on the other hand, seems to have gotten into the habit of downloading DLC for the limited demo that came with his PSP.

What do you guys think -- is this a big loss, or would you prefer they continue to focus on console DLC and future projects?

Don't care in the slightest.

Wouldn't Medium and Easy translate across to the platform easily?

I don't play rhythm games, so it doesn't bother me. I am interested because people were hailing this as Amplitude's spiritual successor and then support is dropped after a few months.

I have this game but haven't downloaded a single piece of DLC for it. That money is for the big version of the game that I can play with friends.

So I don't consider this a big loss. And this might help the RBN get started sooner, which is a good thing.

I don't like peripheral based games much, so I really liked RBU because I had been interested in RB but not willing to pay for all the bells and whistles.

I much liked some of the DLC and was happy to see some songs I really love crop up.

ah well. more money for me to save I guess.

I hadn't gotten around to this one, not much inter rhythm game, but if the game is was really doing well, would it have dropped to $20 so fast and content support be neglected so quickly?

Don't get me wrong, they released a fair amount of music on PSN for this version of the series, but were they as pleased with its performance as they say, I highly doubt they'd be abandoning it as they are now.

I've bought almost all the DLC so far, since I love the Frequency/Amplitude gameplay that so many newer Harmonix fans don't seem to "get" in this handheld version, so this isn't a huge loss for me. For a handheld title, it got much more support than I was expecting, and while I don't agree with every song they chose to give priority, I'm happy that I could expand my setlist.

@ The Silent Protagonist

The price (and support) were likely dropped because, after years of Harmonix's fans pleading for a sequel to Amplitude, they finally made it and people got all snobby about not using plastic instruments and having to switch tracks. It's far more "gamey" than Guitar Hero or Rock Band, and I think people were a little afraid of that, hence poor sales. The game itself is pretty well done, for a handheld revival of a niche gameplay style.

@ DustyBlue

It's good that there's no more additional content available? Or are you just being irrational when the proper response should be "I don't care"?

Destructoid, Can You Please Ask HMX If They're Gonna Do a UMD Song Export to the PSP GO? or If They Plan To Release the FULL Game on the PSN Store?

I liked Frequency, didn't like Amplitude, and didn't care for this much, so no, I don't care.

Unplugged seemed like a bad idea from the get go :) It was kinda fun though. DLC felt completely pointless.
