Who here has played the Japanese Resident Evil 5 demo? You know, the one that works perfectly fine on non-Japanese Xbox 360s and whose default language is English? Yeah, that one!

Apparently, Microsoft has begun preventing gamers from playing the scrumptiously sinister demo's online co-op by kicking players off of Xbox LIVE when they attempt to boot up Resident Evil 5 without a Japanese IP address.

I suppose if you were adamant enough about playing the demo online, you could always resort to using a proxy or some other form of Internet-related trickery to bypass the region locks, but who has the time?

While there were a few good community discussions in the Cblogs and forums, I think Resident Evil 5 needs some front page love as well. Personally, I loved what I played -- for the most part. There are a few kinks in there, sure, but nothing that cannot be fixed by March. What about you guys? Spill your guts!

I thought it sucked, and wow they are going to great lengths to stop people from playing a fucking demo.

Why the hell don't they want us playing a free demo? Whatever. Anyway, I couldn't care less about this game. Now that it has abandoned its horror roots, Resident evil doesn't interest as much anymore.

lol wtf. why its like 2000 people tops who would have really got it from the japanese account method, probably a few more from a method I found on gametrailers.com and isnt exactly a secret. But there is alot of hush hush and locking and shoving it in a safe, because microsoft, probably in association with capcom were dumb enough to keep a AAA title's demo to one region only. This should send a message to microsoft and it has cause they've done this! [locked other regions out of online co-op] instead of releasing the demo to other regions and making the content on XBL equal to all thier userbase.

M$ seem to do the dumbest things sometimes, and this is just one piece of the proof.

I wait for Japanese living overseas to get pissed about this.

Microsoft should just put the demo up for everyone and everyone would be happy.

Is Microsoft punishing me for enjoying a product by making me enjoy it alone? I'm a little confused on this one.

I enjoyed the demo for what it was worth. I just wish the RE directors would learn how to configure a control scheme. I shouldn't have to hold a button to make my character run. This isn't 1987. Tilt the analog stick a little to walk, full tilt to run. It's not that hard.

i'm still at a loss at why RE5 got a Jap demo to begin with...seeing the RE series has no popularity over there. (or not enough compared to the US.)

and I wouldn't even call it a sales move to be honest...

and the "horror roots"? I'd say it's lost some of it....only cause it's more action oriented than survival horror...and horror controls. Comparing REmake and RE4, compare them. RE4 you're always finding ammo...so overall it's impossible to really "run out". You got the merchant selling better guns/upgrades/health etc. Whereas in the REmake and pre RE4 games, health wasn't so easy to find...which adds to the overall survival horror effect.

It's still there....but you know...RE4 and 5 are more action based.

Technically RE still retains its horror roots.

For example.

Slow zombies are horrifying.

Fast moving villagers are horrifying.

These examples assume those causing the "horror" are in pursuit and have homicidal intentions concerning the player.

anyways, I didn't download RE5 demo, even with the 360-location switcharoo trick (I'm in America). But I do plan on getting the game in March anyways.

I created a Japanese account and downloaded it to my Korean Xbox, and when I try to play it it says it cannot be played in my region. Korea is one of the few regions that shares Japan's NTSC-J. Anybody know why American 360s can ply this and I can't?

I never bothered with the demo because I figured it would be released to North America soon. I am actually not even sure about that now.

Will the demo be released elsewhere? If so, then when?

Meh, I'm still largely uninterested in this game. The direction that Resident Evil is taking is somewhere I really did not forsee it going, even in my wildest dreams. Ah well, whatever gets Capcom money, I guess...

Personally it was just as i expected. RE4 with much better looking visuals.
Even the death animations were the same with that stupid disinteration afterwards that makes not having corpses just lazy. When a game like Fallout 3 has bodies that never go you have to think how stupid it is.
After the Left 4 Dead animations, gameplay and at least keeping the last 10 bodies you killed Resident Evil can feck off. Still probally a buy if nothing else comes out...

The demo was terrible, like some ungodly mixture of RE4 and Gears of War. I loved RE4, but I want a single player experience, not some forced co-op shit.

I say screw online co-op for both the demo and the full version of RE5. If you're going to play co-op, then this game is seriously meant to have both people in the same room, right next to each other, just like in-game. It'll just play better that way.

A bit like revolution at the local orphanage in here.

While I disagree with MS blocking resourceful gamers from cunningly obtaining the demo, I'm sure Capcom will be paying attention to all this. To Capcom, it just shows how much we want this game.

Region blocking on these consoles has always been a problem, but all this nonsense makes me wish for the days when demos came on games mag dvd, then we all had access.

Doh Major, RE4 infleunced the creation of GoW. But fairplay, if you don't want, don't buy it.

I think Capcom is afraid that if people play the Japanese demo, they'll start complaining about the rampant racism in the game. I think Capcom wants Americans to wait until the American demo so they can remove all the black people from the game, changing their skin tone to orange. Whether or not oompa loompas or people with fake tans will have a problem with this is not confirmed.

amen on the control scheme. RE's control scheme was legendarily poor, and saying survival horror doesn't forgive that. Survival horror doesn't have to mean the control isn't intuitive.

@Professor Pew

This is the solution. I want a scary game that controls well >> a pretty scary game that doesn't.

Also, I liked this better when it was called Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition.

What a bunch... Of shit. Over a demo, seriously? I attempted to try and boot it up over Live today, so I'll most likely be kicked... Or will I?

Either way, the demo was fun while it lasted. I can just play the demo offline after all.
