Who here has played the Japanese Resident Evil 5 demo? You know, the one that works perfectly fine on non-Japanese Xbox 360s and whose default language is English? Yeah, that one!
Apparently, Microsoft has begun preventing gamers from playing the scrumptiously sinister demo's online co-op by kicking players off of Xbox LIVE when they attempt to boot up Resident Evil 5 without a Japanese IP address.
I suppose if you were adamant enough about playing the demo online, you could always resort to using a proxy or some other form of Internet-related trickery to bypass the region locks, but who has the time?
While there were a few good community discussions in the Cblogs and forums, I think Resident Evil 5 needs some front page love as well. Personally, I loved what I played -- for the most part. There are a few kinks in there, sure, but nothing that cannot be fixed by March. What about you guys? Spill your guts!

"bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
M$ seem to do the dumbest things sometimes, and this is just one piece of the proof.
Microsoft should just put the demo up for everyone and everyone would be happy.
I enjoyed the demo for what it was worth. I just wish the RE directors would learn how to configure a control scheme. I shouldn't have to hold a button to make my character run. This isn't 1987. Tilt the analog stick a little to walk, full tilt to run. It's not that hard.
Resident Evil 5? Ha yeaah, right. I liked it better when it was called "Mirror's Edge with zombies"
this statement simply makes zero sense.
and I wouldn't even call it a sales move to be honest...
and the "horror roots"? I'd say it's lost some of it....only cause it's more action oriented than survival horror...and horror controls. Comparing REmake and RE4, compare them. RE4 you're always finding ammo...so overall it's impossible to really "run out". You got the merchant selling better guns/upgrades/health etc. Whereas in the REmake and pre RE4 games, health wasn't so easy to find...which adds to the overall survival horror effect.
It's still there....but you know...RE4 and 5 are more action based.
Man Im high right NOW and it STILL doesnt make sense.
Wow, that meme spread quickly. Anyone else hear that Prince of Persia -actually- sucks and that the Wii has lots of waggle?
For example.
Slow zombies are horrifying.
Fast moving villagers are horrifying.
These examples assume those causing the "horror" are in pursuit and have homicidal intentions concerning the player.
anyways, I didn't download RE5 demo, even with the 360-location switcharoo trick (I'm in America). But I do plan on getting the game in March anyways.
Will the demo be released elsewhere? If so, then when?
Even the death animations were the same with that stupid disinteration afterwards that makes not having corpses just lazy. When a game like Fallout 3 has bodies that never go you have to think how stupid it is.
After the Left 4 Dead animations, gameplay and at least keeping the last 10 bodies you killed Resident Evil can feck off. Still probally a buy if nothing else comes out...
While I disagree with MS blocking resourceful gamers from cunningly obtaining the demo, I'm sure Capcom will be paying attention to all this. To Capcom, it just shows how much we want this game.
Region blocking on these consoles has always been a problem, but all this nonsense makes me wish for the days when demos came on games mag dvd, then we all had access.
Doh Major, RE4 infleunced the creation of GoW. But fairplay, if you don't want, don't buy it.
Rofl.
Also, I liked this better when it was called "Zombies Ate My Neighbors".
amen on the control scheme. RE's control scheme was legendarily poor, and saying survival horror doesn't forgive that. Survival horror doesn't have to mean the control isn't intuitive.
@Professor Pew
This is the solution. I want a scary game that controls well >> a pretty scary game that doesn't.
Also, I liked this better when it was called Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition.
Either way, the demo was fun while it lasted. I can just play the demo offline after all.
