No More Heroes, Muramasa, coming to Xbox 360/PS3? photo

It's being reported that Marvelous Entertainment is considering bringing its Wii games, including No More Heroes and Muramasa: The Demon Blade, to a console where they might get a tiny bit more appreciation, with ports to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Marvelous gave huge support to the Wii with a wide range of games, but so far hasn't been highly rewarded in the sales department. Now the publisher is looking toward the HD consoles -- first with an all new game called Rainy Woods, and second with a selection of ported Wii games.

None of this is confirmed, but Marvelous is certainly looking into it. I hope it's bloody true, as well. Muramasa especially doesn't need the waggle very much, and many people were hoping for a No More Heroes port when it first came out. Hopefully this happens soon. Let's face it, it can't hurt their sales any worse to try.

Always wanted to play no more heroes but didn't want to buy a Wii so i approve of this move.

In my opinion NMH wouldn't feel right on another console. Muramasa on the other hand...
Do want.

Meaning they'd be ported over as downloadable games, or get complete graphical overhaul? :/

I agree with TheCleaningGuy.

But i'd very much like to see Suda 51 do something new, just for the big boxes

Half the fun of NMH was the very small waggle elements within the game. Watching Travis "wank" his beam saber without the added motion portion of it will never be as satisfying. Then again, I always did hate that one particular waggle event, mainly because it always hurt my wrists after awhile...

Killer 7 updated version, and I'll be happy for like, a Year.

That's 1 year of no complaining from a gamer. That's worth like, 50 million pounds of gold, no less.

I'd rebuy No More Heroes so I could play in HD. That and to get Grasshopper Manufacture and Marvelous some extra green.

Hopefully developers will soon realise that the Wii is simply not the place to release this kind of game *and* be successful. The install base may be huge, but the actual market for certain games is not.

Disclaimer: consoles from all the four major console makers of the last 10 years sit under my TV. No fanboyism here.

Suda 51 did recently just say in an interview that he's probably done with No More Heroes on the Wii, saying he's done everything he possibly can with the system.

Is this a confirmation that Rainy Woods might finally be coming out? It looks awesome, but I was beginning to think it would never see the light of day. The trailer makes it look badass, though I've heard they've re-tooled it since then. Still, one to watch!

Wasn't NMH originally a 360 title anyway? The game didn't have much for motion control (and I'll forever remember nearly breaking my finger swinging at bat..into a chair) but I'm sure sticking wouldn't be too bad. I guess.

I'd also like to see some PSP titles get ported to XBLA like 30 sec hero.

They should do a two pack of No More Heroes and Baroque, Little King's Story and Arc Rise Fantasia, with Muramasa and Rune Factory Frontier rounding it out.

Either way this is possible good news since Little King's Story is looking to be a do want and I would rather have it on my 360 than my wii.

Definitely do want if they do something like this. I just hope they get the port and graphics right, I don't want to play a game that looks like my PS2 could have run it.

Did you know that the original NMH was first being developed for the 360? Some other shit happened and.......I forgot, look it up.

I always though No More Heroes wouldn't work the way it was on another console considering the game seems to be built for the system. It might work with other consoles too now with new motion controlers but some people will still be snobby about the graphics.

It's a good move for many of their games, but No More Heroes needs to be played on Wii. It uses the console's features brilliantly. The loss of the punctuation in the combat and the inability to answer your cell phone would hurt this game.
WhiteX's Avatar - Comment posted on 07/02/2009 10:53

The majority of the user base of PS360 will see this as a port of a last gen system with crappy graphics, this move alone can drown marvelous since they are quite low on the maney department.

What they should have done was to advertise their products better, if anything can be said about "the conduit" is that advertising and proper marketing sell core games on the Wii, the market is here but the ads are not, little Kings story is leaps and bounds a better game than the conduit, however it will see a percentage of its sales, a shame really.

Now, the same game, if ported to PS360 will demand a graphic overhaul so big that will invalidate the effort and the installed base will see it as another cute kiddie game.

I think that NMH wouldn't work on any other console. As for the others, even though I don't have a 360 or a PS3, I hope they do it. If a game is good, everyone should be able to play it!

I'll agree that this can only mean better things for the sales of those games, but I doubt No More Heroes would be better without the Wiimote.

I'm going to jump on the bandwagon and say that NMH would be terribly uninteresting without motion controls. The death strikes made the simple combat feel great, and it would be really repetitive without it.

Am I the only one who liked the wii graphics in NMH and think that upgrading them would be more trouble than it was worth?

Besides, NMH sold just fine on the wii. I think it hit the 500k mark eventually, making it suda51's best selling game to date.

lol, this game would easily port to other consoles. I just don't think it's a very good idea because there have already been a lot of good games out on the other consoles so this just wouldn't be as "special" on current-gen consoles as it is on the Wii.

NOOOOOOOO, stupid Marvelous taking away our exclusives!! I can't be happy when other people are happy too! FF13 is ours!!!... err...

Its a fallacy to think it will sell any better on other systems, some games just don't sell well, I thought Marvellous knew this when they choose to make niche games.

Still, good luck.

(Agrees with WhiteX, silvain, and al3xand3er)

This is nice for non-Wii owners who didn't get a chance to play the game, but it likely won't do anything for Marvelous's sales. If you can't sell on the system with the highest amount of customers, you likely can't sell anywhere else.

Don't give me any of that stuff about the X/PS being more "hardcore". The Wii has a ton of gamers from all walks of life, including ones who used to or currently own an X/PS. Bottom line, these games are always going to sell low since they appeal to a niche audience. That audience is just as much a niche on the X/PS as it is on the Wii.

Couple that with the game best being played on the Wii (the beat-em-up is boring without the motions), the graphics looking outdated to a "Hardcore" X/PS player, the stigma it'll get for being originally released on the Wii, and the general unwillingness to try new things among the X/PS crowd (like 400$ for the system plus 60$ for the games doesn't make for a very risky buyer) makes for a game that still won't sell.

How fiscally viable would a move be without drastically changing the visuals? Would consumers adopt these titles if they came over verbatim?

Muramasa could work, seeing as how it uses the Classic or GameCube controller, but No More Heroes is on the Wii and that's where it belongs. A port with any other controls wouldn't work.

No More Heroes' combat was satisfying because it was on the Wii. The feeling of cutting enemies in half won't be the same on the 360 or PS3. The motion controls made No More Heroes more entertaining, without them it won't be as fun.

The sad thing is I'll buy it again.

[If you can't sell on the system with the highest amount of customers, you likely can't sell anywhere else.]
When your 'highest amount of costumers' happens to be a conglomerate of senior citizens and kids in the 6-12 age area (who wouldn't be interested in M-rated titles to begin with..), I have a hard time believing you could make that kind of assertion.

The Wii doesn't have the same kind of user base as MS's Xbox 360 and Sony's PS3. I think the greatest limitation on NMH would be the lack of motion controls, though, as the novelty of NMH would wear off pretty quickly without them. Hopefully they have Natal and such in mind.

Why not? It should look and be better. Unfortunately, the hard core audience on Wii is largely outnumbered by the legions of casuals, and thus hardcore gamers know this game is cool, but casuals are clueless or just want exercise stuff.

Sales of other games like Zack and Wiki, Okami etc, prove that there's not enough of an enthusiatic audience on Wii

With HD visuals and achievements, these could grab more money for them. Hell, it beats just letting them gather dust.

Nice to know that the graphics over gameplay mentality is still alive and well. Really, though, I doubt that any of these games would magically do better on the Xbox or PS3. As people have said before, these are niche games, and no amount of hardcore fans can really make a significant dent, simply because most "hardcore" gamers would NEVER admit to buying something like "Little King's Story".

Can't say I'm upset by this news myself. I think it's pretty great more people will get to play one of these games if I'm honest, but I'm a bit saddened by some of the reactions to this news.

I guess the TL;DR version of this disaster of a post would be: "These games probably won't sell much better on other consoles because none of them look like Killzone."
