No More Heroes means no more blood in Europe photo

By now you should all be aware of Suda 51's latest cel-shaded gore-fest, No More Heroes. While completely outrageous violence and showers of blood have made up the vast majority of the game's promotional material, it seems that only America is getting what has been advertised -- if you live in Europe (like I do until I get off this stinkin' rock) then you can enjoy the Japanese, censored version.

Yes, censored. Following the BBFC's rejection of Manhunt 2, publisher Rising Star Games seems to have become frightened and decided that a "black spray" should replace blood for those of us in the PAL territories. It's not surprising, since the most logical fear in the wake of Manhunt 2's banning was that a worrying new precedent of media censorship had been set in the UK. With that in mind, it seems Rising Star intends to take no chances.

As usual, European gamers get a raw deal, though I wonder if this censorship was needed. I still maintain that a lot of Manhunt 2's banning was fuelled by politics and the mainstream attention that Rockstar's games get. Everybody knows that similar violence can get under the radar provided the mainstream media doesn't know about it, and No More Heroes is pretty obscure in that regard. At least this demonstrates what I always said -- the BBFC debacle has far wider reaching effects than just the banning of Manhunt 2.

Either way, this game was one of the few on the Wii that I truly cared about, and even though it's a little thing, the replacement of blood with something so utterly stupid seriously takes my estimation down. Oh well, yet more proof that owning a Wii in Europe just doesn't pay.

Well, is it any wonder why things are so bubbly and fluffy over there? I mean, these people are amused by the color pink and childhood more than children themselves...

btw, I thought all the fascists where kicked out of Europe. I may be wrong though, just basing it off this vague recollection I have of something happening over there in the 40s.

pfft... why would you tell anyone to pirate any games..... pirating games= game developers lose money= less video games= surpluss of "journalists"= you out of a job

because if video games didnt exist what WOULD you write about? food? Women?

dont pull the fanboy card with me pal... youre not the only one taht has a distaste for all things nintendo but you are just an overhyped sub par writer with some sort of personal vandetta that is like hell, really, really under me...

besides didnt you SELL your wii? how could you be looking forward to ANYTHING coming out for it....?

If it's "really, really under" you, why do you respond every single time? You ARE the Nintendo defense force, because you seem to take defending them so seriously, without fail.

And I don't condone the pirating of games. I condone the modification of Nintendo Wiis so people can play the games currently being denied them. Nintendo doesn't want us to buy them, so we're just doing what they want, really. I wonder if you even remember the Animal Crossing debacle where European gamers didn't have an official release for over a year while Nintendo simultaneously cracked down on imports. They were literally telling us they didn't want us to buy their game.

So, keep up the personal attacks and lashing out in anger because I dare to speak my mind. You seem to want me to lie about my opinions to please you, but that wouldn't make me a good "journalist" would, it?

I should also point out that my main criticism wasn't even OF Nintendo. I never bashed the company at all, Mr. Sensitive.

How about this..... We, as a people, need to stop sitting back and letting authorities think they are not accountable to their actions. People, like members of the BBFC who "know" that only children play games, think that they are more moral, sophisticated, and intellectually superior to the governed. This trend must end. It is the people who give power to any government, not the other way around. I am not saying rise up and start a revolution. However, it is apathy who will be the downfall of all. People of Britain and the world, if you feel that the BBFC or any governing institution are not acting for your best interest, tell them so in an informed and calm manner. Get organized, spread factual information with sincerity. Do not ever, EVER, give up on what you think is right. If a peaceful movement for freedom becomes so large, and yet the empowered will not yield to the will of a fair and reasonable people, then a a boot to the head may be in order. Stay ever vigilant, and may love of humanity be with you.

I guess the solution is to not live in Europe. Or Japan. Or probably India. Or South America. Everyone to the US!
