As hypnotic as Naomi's fresh pair of implants may be, that video isn't what this post is about. For the real No More Heroes 2 launch trailer, you'll have to hit the jump (due to NSFW language).
Now, I know it's an apples-vs.-oranges scenario to compare Mass Effect 2 to No More Heroes 2, but I couldn't help but do it. Both titles are coming out on the same day, and I see it as a battle of philosophies on game design. Mass Effect 2 represents one direction that gaming has been heading over the past few years: one of inflated production values, space-marines-in-the-uncanny-valley scenarios, and wanna-be Hollywood storytelling. No More Heroes 2 represents everything else games can be: art direction over expensive graphics, risk taking over cliché-hugging, and embracing of videogames as a medium instead of trying to turn them into something "cooler" like a made-for-SyFy-channel original movie.
Not that there is anything wrong with the SyFy channel. Mansquito 4 Lyfe.
Hit the jump for the full trailer, and as usual, I've grabbed a few screens for you as well.

That game is the reason why I'm putting off Mass Effect 2 for a long long while. (also, I have to make a new character that isn't the ugliest man who ever seduced a blue alien chick. He looked cool on the character creation screen. . . then he talked)
Will get both, and will beat Mass Effect 2 twice before I play NMH 2.
I think there's a lot of weaboos out there hatin' on Mass Effect just because it's western, even though the series is fairly weaboo (suckers!) in general. Gotta justify that non-purchase, I suppose.
@ anchorman84
You said exactly what I wanted to, so I'll just let it sit with you. :v
I felt a tear form at that line, I've missed Travis so much from the last game.
Also, @Tubatic
It sounded exactly like Heavenly Star, kinda curious if it'll be used in damn near every shop like the last game, though we at least know the movie rental place is gone or different, and Naomi is at least upgraded.
That said, I sold my Wii because I hadn't played shit on it in months. Still the best decision I made last year. The only twinge of regret I have is that I can't play NMH2. Then I realize that I don't really care that much.
Dude, you need to chill with the trolling. I mean, I know you make sex to your Wii and shit, but you can't compare ME2 with NMH2, like, at all. And if ME was a properly-made movie, it would be better than 99% of the shit we see every year from Hollywood. ME is loved by a lot of people, hating on it is just borderline fanboyish. Sorry dude, but you really need to chill with that shit. Just because something isn't quirky, crazy, or fuck it, JAPANESE, doesn't make it a piece of shit.
Dtoid really needs to stop having massive boners for Eastern games. Being Japanese doesn't make you special.
Sorry if I offend you, but damn dude, this post really bugged me.
Anyway, I really want to try this series out. Heard so many great things.
actually, I find this post one of the biggest breaths of fresh air in a long-ass time. Honestly? Go to any blog, any game site. What do you see? Huge ads for Mass Effect, Dante's Inferno, MW2. Nowadays we treat Japanese games like they're a goddamn taboo. Like it's super uncool to like anything that DOESN'T have space marines and a 100 million dollar advertising budget.
Holmes is like, the only guy on Destructoid that gives the Wii even the slightest shred of respect, but even he has problem with the system and some of it's lineup.
You really need to slow your roll on the hating everything just because it's not on a Nintendo system. That and the fact that you just slapped an actual Dtoider in the face for that Sy vs Fy comment, considering a Dtoider actually worked his ass off on making that special.
@theswitcher
I'd like to think I'm equal parts weaboo and hot-blooded American action lover. Thus, I get to enjoy a wide variety of games.
Basically, No More Heroes had a ton of problems, but ultimately was an incredible experience, and one of the best titles of this generation. I could literally say the exact same thing about Mass Effect.
If you were to slander Gears of War, and claim that was "generic space marine hot blooded bru-haha", I would probably agree (Gears 2's only "emotional" scene was laughably bad): but there's no way you could make that same claim about Mass Effect. That is, if you've ever played past the tutorial planet.
Holmes ain't trolling. No More Heroes is the only game this generation (so far) that has any idea what games are suppose to be: Fun, easy to pick up, doesn't take itself to seriously and overall an experience you can't get with any other form of entertainment.
Well I'm getting both on launch day and I plan to enjoy both equally.
As to everyone here who's hating, you all seriously need to just take a deep breath and step back for a second. Every other video game website will not shut up about Mass Effect 2 and how it'll be the greatest game ever made and nothing could ever compare to it. I don't think NMH2 will surpass ME2 (and vice versa, they're two completely different games) but I think some of you guys need to realize it's okay to like a quirky Japanese game. I honestly can't stand the "Western is superior to Eastern in every way" mentality that a lot of gamers like to spout.
More like comparing apples and bacon...I think both look like damn good games, but being more of a scifi nerd I'm creaming myself more over Mass Effect 2 right now. Also, when did made-for-tv SyFy movies become something "cooler"???
There's a difference between respect and trolling. He's pretty much doing that here, and has done that for the last few posts he's made. It's no secret he loves his Wii, but it's also no secret he does a lot of bashing in general. I'm surprised you haven't noticed.
And as for the Japanese games, I'm just sick and tired of all the love for Eastern games and almost none for the western side of things. Dtoid is my favorite games site, so when I see something I don't like about it, i'll point it out. it just sucks because Dtoid seems to give a lot of Eastern games a pass because they're quirky, because they're Japanese, etc. It doesn't matter what other sites do, because ad space is paid for, and if Japanese publishers don't pay for them, that isn't BioWare or Epic's fault.
Sure, a lot of Western games have space marines, but FAR more Eastern games have characters that look exactly the same as the game next to it, so that isn't a good argument.
Honestly, you know how I feel? It almost feels like Dtoid is unwilling to accept that the times are moving on and Eastern games aren't as dominant as they once were in terms of gameplay, story, etc. I know Eastern games deserve coverage, and I sure as hell enjoy me some Eastern as much as the next guy (Words cannot express how much I adore JSRF), but it's posts like these that only fuel my feelings. Eastern games can't stay dominant forever guys, Western games are on the rise. This is a fact that even Eastern developers themselves are wiling to admit.
Why else would Squeenix buy-out Eidos? Because that instantly gave them a Western audience, something that's becoming rapidly apparent among Eastern publishers (Just look at Sega, publishing not one, but two Aliens titles).
All I'm saying is that Western games deserve the same recognition as a game from anywhere. Posts like these really put them down more than they deserve (Especially considering that we're talking about ME2 of all games).
What are you talking about? Chill out a bit :) I've read more posts about ME2 than NMH2 at Dtoid TBH. Holmes is just cashing in on the ME2 hype. I'll be playing both that's for sure.
Although me thinks NMH's ending is an order of magnitude better than ME's :d
Hmm, I dunno if it is > that ME2's final (suuure it is!) trailer... But man it is good! Since I've already preordered ME2 I just gotta get the cash to buy and the time to justify getting these two games on the same day...
He isn't cashing in on the hype, though. He's done stuff like this a few times already. And I'm just commenting on my own observations. It has nothing to do with how many posts a game has. I'm glad you will be playing both, but based on what I've seen, Eastern games are a little more than appreciated 'round these parts.
No More Heroes is the most overrated game on the Wii. Hell, it's the most overrated game of this generation. The graphics are terrible and don't do the art style justice. The open world is worthless and managed to look worse than a Dreamcast game. The camera is wonky and the targeting system is annoying, since any dodge move will break your targeting and send the camera spinning. The required "jobs" are retarded tedium that wouldn't be worthy of inclusion as microgames in a Wario Ware title. The combat is only a smidge deeper than the average Dynasty Warriors game. The only saving graces of the game are the bosses, the art style (when it isn't being totally destroyed by the shitty engine), and the dialogue.
It's a sad state of affairs for the Wii when fanboys have to latch on to this, which would rightfully be ignored on any other platform, as a "must-have" game. Why not at least choose a GOOD game to be a drooling fanboy over? Like Deadly Creatures. Oh wait, that isn't made by your masters in Japan, thus it sucks.
Mass Effect never interested me because I always found Bioware games to be too slow for my taste. Then again, I haven't really messed with them much, and Mass Effect IS half third-person shooter from what I understand.

Oh Travis how I missed thee.
I am so psyched.
As much as I crave a pre-order blackhole gun... I really want to dig into this game!
You know for a dead man that one guy didn't look half bad...
BADUM-TISCH!
so pringles...

NO WAIT, I'M FUCKING TUESDAY.
WHY ISNT IT TUESDAY YET?!
*caps lock isn't broken I just have a 20 foot boulder crushing gorilla choking boner about next Tuesday.
I justify the non-purchase of Mass Effect 2 because I have yet to finish Mass Effect.
I got it from the Steam Holiday sale and haven't had time to go through it all, still one of the best $5 games I've played though.
No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle has been a long time coming though.
That said, I sold my Wii because I hadn't played shit on it in months. Still the best decision I made last year. The only twinge of regret I have is that I can't play NMH2. Then I realize that I don't really care that much.
Mass Effect 2 = Game of forever, for me.
also, wii game of the year (assuming the new LOZ and metroid other dont come out)
My prediction for Wii game of the year is Galaxy 2. Mario Galaxy is my pick for the best game of this generation.
I can't wait to get my hands on both of these Wii titles!
I love Grasshopper Manufacture's sense or humor and style. It makes their story telling and dialogue all the more entertaining and memorable.

i want a wii, and i want that hd port to be published stateside.
also, i hope will smith retains some of the quirkiness that made the original "old boy" such a great movie.
I think your full of no.2 so zip it.
I dont want to hear your half-ass conspiracy theory bs.
It's completely out of topic here.
NMH2 launch vid is blatantly better than ME2 launch vid.
Oh, and the hate on ME2? Really? Jim Sterling is the King of Troll (and funny), so I don't see the reason for you cramping his style.
Unless he's getting all Yoda on your Skywalker. In that case, you are not ready to walk the rice paper quite yet.
