Whether or not you think Suda51 makes good games, it is an undeniable fact that the guys makes interesting games. That's enough for me to justify posting some new details about the sequel last year's No More Heroes, gleaned from the latest issue of Nintendo Power by Tiny Cartridge's Eric Caoli. Verily, he's doing the Lord's work on this brilliant Sunday morning.
These plot details may be considered spoilers, so be aware. Here goes:
- Shinobu, the teen assassin from the original game, will return in NMH2: Desperate Struggle as a playable character. Her fighting style will significantly differ from Travis’, as she moves faster and can even jump. You can’t play as her whenever you want, though.
- Suda expects NMH2 to have around 50 boss battles. He comments, “… we didn’t just want you to be fighting them as the same character again and again. By allowing the player to use a different character we can change up the tempo and offer more surprises. “
- Travis’ primary reason for taking on the United Assassins Association again is to avenge the death of his best friend from the first game, Bishop.
I don't know if there's anyone not foaming at the mouth for No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle. Except, y'know, the people that didn't like the first one. For what's it's worth, I'm looking forward to it. If you need more convincing, check out this trailer. In a brilliant move, Nintendo Power has made their features available online in hi-res .jpgs. Read NP's interview with Grasshopper Manufacture's Suda 51, in its entirety, partiality here.
Oh, and I'm sorry, but if you gave Shinobu some fierce rabbit ears, you'd have Fran from Final Fantasy XII staring you in the face. Actually, that's a great idea for a mash-up, or some slash fiction.
brb, pitching a game to Suda51.

now, gameplay footage pleaseee
People didn't like the first one because it had lame mini-games that detracted from the beat 'em up experience, and was a bit repetitive. The developers have said that NMH2 will directly address these issues, so in actuality, everyone should be foaming at the mouth for this sequel :D
I loved the mini-games in No More Heroes. I hated the Assassination Missions. I kill enough dudes in the main game without having to bore myself doing it to get the money to go back to killing more dudes. I would have done the mini-games exclusively if they payed more. Hopefully they'll either give me more interesting, higher-paying mini-games in the sequel, or at least make the assassination missions more fun (I thought they were going to be actual assassinations missions, like having to sneak through these one-shot levels to kill some guy, not just a big brawl).
That said, I look forward to NMH2. Despite it's problems, I had a lot of fun with NMH. I look forward to a hopefully better version.
Also, Shinobu. Awesome!
Also @Alex
Ever heard of constructive criticism?
Game of the fucking century.
"Also @Alex
Ever heard of constructive criticism?"
No, sadly, his English isn't that great, so I don't think he understands what that means; you should have seen my last argument with him. Basically, he trolls every Wii post on Destructoid, and if you have one negative thing to say about any game on the system, he'll accuse you of being ignorant, and then talk it up like he was a developer that put his heart and soul into it.
Oh, and he has this very, very weird thing about people responding to him. Every time you mention his name, he'll say "was I talking to you?" when he just "@" responded to like 5-6 people, picking apart their every comment, and somehow thinking his comments are worth posting over everyone else. His profile even says "stop looking at me": it's very peculiar.
Ahh that explains a lot, I thought I'd seen him on here before.
@Fanatism
I saw that image you have as your avatar a few days ago on Wikipedia and was planning to make it my avatar but forgot! Good choice Sir!
LET THE BLOODSHED BEGIN!
"Go! To the Garden... Of Madness!"
The graphics on the first one were just too shitty for me to take the game seriously.
Chances are not in your favor. But you can dream. Regardless of the Sonyrod and, Natal is it? I don't think porting up is going to happen.
YAY FOR OWNING A WII!
Bring it on, I have been waiting for some sweet revenge TRAVIS!

I've loved all of the Suda51 games I've played. Killer7 was brilliant and I loved all of the hidden pop culture references, such as the memos named after songs by the Smiths. I just bought Flower, Sun and Rain and will be starting that soon. He's currently the most interesting gaming personality.
Shinobu was the hardest boss for me in the first game...including Harry, including Bad Girl.
2. Best game ever made
3. Most underrated and over criticized game ever made.
4. Best new character (travis) in a game in a decade
5. Play on Normal, then immediately play on Hard to get all the rest of the shirt, ect, and enjoy the difficulty of boss fights, and the glory of defeating each and every one after hours of practice."
1. No, there's lots of reason to own a Wii, NMH isn't one of them.
2. HAHAHA, no, just no, its way to flawed.
3. It was hyped to death by fans and numerous websites, underrated my ass and it deserved all the critiques it got.
4. Are you 12?
5. Only point I'll give you as the boss fights can fun, probably the only fun you'll have with the game.
And yea I know, lol opinions.
I still love Killer7.
I never criticized or annoyingly corrected anyone: that's the definition of a troll. You are rude to Joe.
Yeah, but she had it reattached.
Yes, but she had it when she chopped off Jeane's arm. My guess is either she had it surgically reattached, or satirically intentional plot hole.
Shia La Beouf will still say EVACUATE, though.
For my final entry: I'm calling you out because after 10 topics of staying quiet and watching you constantly correcting people in a rude manner, enough was enough. All the things I said earlier are factually true, including the part where you constantly respond to people "why are you talking to me?"
Like I said earlier in this topic, you have this odd tendency to think "people are obsessing over you", when it's you who posts nonstop in Wii articles, obsessing over minute details that are meaningless. Why wouldn't people respond to that? Get it in your head: if you are going to be rude to people, and correct them, they are generally going to respond back. It's not out of the ordinary for that to happen, and you don't automatically win every argument. This is a public forum.
My universe just exploded!
Wait, didn't Shinobu get her arm cut off?
Whatever, I'm looking forward to this game.
You can not be so wrong about this game.
#1 NMH is one of the best wii games so far. Even harsh critics of the system have love for the game.
#2 Granted the game has flaws but don't most games. And did'nt Suda say that the flaws will get fixed in the new game?
#3 Do bad there was more raves than critiques.
#4 No offense but that was'nt mature of you. And Travis has a lot more personally than most characters on video games
#5 Boss fight are fun. 50 are better
