No MAG for you until 2010: Get used to it, soldier! photo

To be honest, it was looking unlikely that Massive Action Game would be heading to stores before 2010, and it would appear that the skeptics are right on this one. A number of outlets have recently changed the release date of this PS3 exclusive, indicating that it won't be out this year.

I didn't even know we were supposed to expect it this year, but apparently some people were. If you were one of those people, now you know. There shall be no MAG for you this Christmas, so you better suck it up and play Killzone 2 some more.

Even though this news isn't surprising, it's still disappointing to see Sony's excellent exclusive lineup get pushed back almost entirely across the board. We've only really had Killzone 2 and inFAMOUS this year, as far as AAA retail games go, with the other big titles like God of War III and Heavy Rain straggling behind. Sony had a potentially killer 2009 lineup, but stretching out the exclusives so thinly could potentially make both 2009 and 2010 look bad.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that extra time has been taken on these games when considered necessary, but it's just tough to see a system having to drip-feed its games over the course of two years rather than wow us with an amazing 2009. Hopefully 2010 will truly be "the year of the PlayStation," but isn't every year supposed to be that?

I'm totally okay with just BF1943 for 2009.

Yeah sony needs to stop setting themselves up to fail. Making this same statment year after year isn't helping matters.

already knew it. its fucking sony wanting their developers to set a date. there are no set dates with sony unless its another fucking stupid home space update that doesn't have any meat. i wub u ps3 but your daddy is about ass backwards this gen and a bitch to boot. after a goddam year when i press the ps button to see what time it is the battery charge still pops over it, come on goddamit sony, the ball has been dropped and they too high on the pedestal to even see it let alone try to pick it up. gaming in general has fallen too much that the major 3 all want two things, old people and women.

i got my one finger in the air to their one thumb up their ass.

Man, 2009 keeps losing tripleA titles every other day.

Is there confirmation or are you trusting a couple of questionable sources? Serious question.

the year of the playstation was 1996 or 97, whenever the ps1 came out.

Then I'll suck it up and play some Killzone 2 instead.

For the record, Best Buy still has it at October, but I'd be more inclined to believe that it got pushed back.

I dont know about anyone else but i think this is a great move. Think of it this way. You have Uncharted 2, Ratchet and Clank and MW2. All coming to the PS3 this season. MAG would get lost in the shuffle. Also it allows Zipper to only make the game better. And spaces out Sony's games more. The Oct-April period looks like Sony is going to have at least one major game a month. So i think this is a great move.

So the game getting pushed back either means more time for the developers to polish the game, or they're just prolonging for the inevitable when the developers say they didn't have enough time to put in everything they wanted, so it ends up being subpar. Either way, I win because I will be amused in whichever path they decide to choose.

Guys, there have been NO confirmation. I can find just as many sources that list a Fall release. So, take it with a grain of salt until you hear otherwise.

I really don't mind. I'm getting MAG regardless of when it comes out but now I will also get Modern Warfare 2 since I won't have to split time over the two.

Uncharted 2 is still the game I'm looking forward to most.

Every year is year of the playstation!

I'm a little miffed that i have to wait for MAG but if it makes it a better game I don't mind. I'm not an impatient 12 year old playing my Xbox in my bedroom.

Plus there are plenty of multiplat games coming out.

I don't even see how this game is going to work. 256 players is a lot to keep track of.

My warped and twisted minions will soon take over the development company for MAG, driving its women and child-laborers before me, where they will fall upon their knees and worship my evilness.

Also, it's still not coming out 'til 2010.

...with that out of the way, I'd imagine that this is well and truly a game that needs to be polished as much as possible, so not releasing this year is a good thing. But again, I don't expect a lot of big hitters until 2010, and it does irritate me that Sony are still hyping games up for release from 2006 E3, because they STILL aren't out.

I think pushing it back was a good idea. If they need the time, they need the time. 256 people online is a massive undertaking. Plus Q4 will be ruled by Modern Warfare 2. I really don't think theres enough room for another online FPS this november or October. Plus the PS3 has Uncharted 2 and Ratchet comming out this year aswell, another great PS3 exclusive. Now this has got me really looking forward to 2010. MAG,God Of War 3, Heavy Rain, Resistance 3. Shit I have alot of gaming to do.

I am looking forward to this but if it takes an extra half year or so I don't mind, I think it will make me more likely to buy it near launch since there are a # of other titles I want from sept. on

Thank god, am I the only one that can't keep up with all these games in the fall and winter? Push 'em back, I says! Uncharted, Ratchet and MW2 are plenty for me, plus I'm sure there will be some PSN games and a few other retail titles. That is plenty.

Plus, who the fuck would launch another FPS anywhere near MW2?
