If you've pre-ordered Left 4 Dead 2 from GameStop or via Steam, you probably already know -- the demo for the game is available now. But if you haven't, or for some reason haven't gotten your Xbox 360 demo code (raise hell with GameStop corporate!), then these videos are you.

The demo shows off the first two levels of one of the game's five campaigns, "The Parish." After getting dropped off by a ferry boat, the four survivors fight their way through a small town, then a zombie-infested park, and then through a bus station to reach the safehouse which ends this short demo.

The gameplay is split up across two videos which last about seventeen minutes total, but it's worth your time if you're interested in watching zombies get their limbs blown off and such. Within the first minute of playing for this video, I picked up a guitar as a melee weapon, and that's when I knew that sh*t was about to get real. And then it did.

Enjoy.

@Drack48:

I might agree with you on some points to uphold that statement, but Left 4 Dead 2 is looking really damned good. :)

i would have to disagree and say that they are underrated. take half life it is quite underrated
also if anyone used steam to preorder the game, what i did was i loaded up CSS and quit, then an update told me i could preload it

Are you kidding? I'll agree that Left 4 Dead is overrated, but Valve? Team Fortress 2 is one of the best supported PC games of all time. Portal is one of the most innovative games ever made. And then you have Half Life 2, and it's amazing episodes.

The guitar lying next to the shotgun and health packs made me laugh. Maybe environmental weapons should be found in the environment, ala Dead Rising? Instead it looks like someone was packing to rock out around the campfire during their hunting trip.

You're entitled to your opinion. (I, for example, think Final Fantasy and God of War are way overrated).

I'm curious, though: is it maybe because you just aren't a big fan of FPS? For me, at least, that is why I don't really like the games I mention; I don't like hack and slash action games or JRPGs.

I preordered from Amazon, I can't wait to play this demo. I'm sure the Spitter will lead to many deaths.

GODDAMMIT MAGNALON, L4D IS NOT OVERRATED, YOU SHUT YOUR WHOREMOUTH I KILL YOU!!!

Seriously though, everyone that says that either doesn't play versus or sucks at versus and gets raped when they try to play because they don't get the nuances of how to play well. If you don't like it, fine, but It's only overrated if you're doing it wrong :p

Meh. Only thing that caught my attention somewhat is the AR appears to have burst fire now, which would of made sense if they kept the M16a2 model.

It's overrated in my opinion because it's repetitive, and nothing really original (plus it's zombies...again). If you don't like the charm (Bill's quips, etc), you probably won't love the game. Borderlands on the other hand, does 4 player coop right, and feels like a completely new experience :D

Left 4 Dead on Expert mode or Survival mode (without glitches) is some of the best gaming I've ever experienced. Not many co-op games come close in my opinion.

Most people play on Normal and believe they've experienced the game.

@ Magnalon: Again, I speak of versus, co-op is very repetitive. Have you ever even experienced the glory of 25 pounce damage? There'e a whole other side to the game that people totally disregard. Just give us one FNF session and watch the insanity and hilarity that happens, and I guarantee you will change your tune. *clucks like a chicken*

I just realized that I didn't run into a witch when I played through the two demo levels. Huh.

And I liked the one guy's quote...something like "I hear another one of them back-humpers".

Hmm. The game does seem rather more action orientated then the original, which had an eerie, dark and overbearing atmosphere. Not that it's necessarily a bad thing, but I really liked the originals atmosphere.

Anyone else find it funny how everyone else went full nerd rage on halo odst just a month back because it was more of an "expansion", but Left for Dead 2 on the other hand (which is the same fucking game as the first even more so then halo... talk about a simple expansion) is all the rage must get triple A title. I find it funny. I enjoyed L4D, there is no way I'll be buying this though with so many good games that are out or are coming out very soon. Borderlands FTW

It would be interesting if these group of characters had different names for the various special undead types. I mean don't you find it strange that two isolated groups came up with the exact same identifying names?

I just think it would add a bit more immersion.

I hope you're joking otherwise you must have been under a rock when this was first announced. For about 3-5 months straight it was nerd rage against this game because of the expansion argument. I mean, there was a huge petition to boycott it for crying out loud. ODST's nerd rage was practically a whisper compared to what L4D2 has gone through up to this point. Admittedly it has subsided but the rage was pretty big.

I havent played Either Left 4 Dead much, but it does seem like i would get repetitive. But i think the Co-op would make up for that. Resistance 2's Co-op is repetitive but is fun with other people for me.

I've played more than 150 hours of l4d. It is NOT repetitive, only so long as you play with friends (preferably on both teams with all talk) and know what it is you're doing.

Left 4 Dead was some of the most fun I've had at LAN parties in years. Game is downright a blast with friends.
I agree though, Expert, Survival, or Verses mode is the way to go. Playing on normal can be downright dull.
I'll probably hop right into Realism mode with this (it looks totally awesome) and then try the Verses modes. Can't wait to play as the new special infected (though I dunno if anything will overtake the Smoker...I thought he was by far the funnest to play).

Hi, late to thread! I should really back up what I said. First off, I get why everyone likes left for dead, with four people playing it's super fun. I also love buying games on steam. I also love FPS and all types of games.

But here's the thing, their FPS games have that floating in space kind of feel that I just can't get behind anymore. I also feel like L4D doesn't have nearly enough content to justify the price. The orange box on the 360 loaded every ten seconds killing the fun of playing Half Life. I feel like the graphics on L4D are pretty behind the times and lack that..finesse, that extra something.

Maybe it's just my prickliness with multilayer games and the fact I don't play a ton online. They are a great company, but just not in my top ten. Just being honest and just my humble opinion. I've said to much...(ducks and runs)

I think your opinion would change if you played Team Fortress 2, Half Life 2, or even Left 4 Dead on the PC: with all the Left 4 Dead Resident Evil mod-support. Find some way to get Half Life 2 and it's episode packs, sans-load times.

I have Orange Box for the 360: and it's pretty shit. I feel you though.

@Drack48: I'm actually of a mind to agree with you. I love Half-Life 2 but thought that the episodes were some of the bigger wastes of money out there. I think the Orange Box is a great game on 360 or PC (especially if installed) but the weightlessness of the characters no longer appeals to me. However Portal is absolutely phenomenal, I brook no arguments on this point. :-p

But with L4D there are a few points to address. Firstly L4D1 IS thin on content. I had hoped there'd be more support for the title but I shouldn't have expected much from Valve. I figured with all the additional map packs we see for games Valve would jump on the bandwagon. To knock the graphics seems ill thought out looking at the fact that if you want great graphics on an FPS, generally speaking, you generally don't have thirty things running for your face while four guys fire off guns and throw molotoves and a tank is running around trying to punch your face off. There's a lot ot animate and some sacrifices to be made.

But as for the content L4D2 seems ready to fix that. Survival mode, Scavenge mode, five campaigns, a good lot of weapons and a lot of special infected for use in Versus mode... it's looking like what L4D 1 should have been and worth the money.

@Dexter345:

The idea was to show off action; that's why I did those things. I could have snuck through the entire demo with a perfect playthrough, but guess what's not fun to watch? That.

Played, the demo, believe me it's way different situation, it's like they come at you out of nowhere, I mean nowhere, have the time you don't hear them. You won't even here the charger, till he's banging you against the floor. The alarms are scary, if you don't find the way to stop it, you are screwed. Try realism, then you will know the meaning of teamwork
Johan Ayala's Avatar - Comment posted on 11/11/2009 13:56

Yeah, repetitive, for the people playing on easy. Try it on expert and you see repetitiveness of your ass on the floor. You will give up playing for a while because of how frustrating it can get (which I love), but I still passed each campaign on expert; but later found out how to glitch it for someone else (wish I did it for myself). You have to use teamwork; and I believe part 2 is more aggressive and it teaches you that; and the option for realism was to achieve that goal. I have played expert on the demo and OH MY GOD!!! At least one person made it to the safe room. The secret to expert is leapfrog; the infected always go for the downed one, and the persons that are willing to sacrifice themselves for the rest, will make you reach to the next level faster. Except when it comes to the rescue vehicle (real teamwork there).
