No joke: Play as the Joker in Batman: Arkham Asylum (Update) photo

It would seem that, far from being a complete waste of time, PlayStation Home can actually be a good source of leaked news. Advertisements for Batman: Arkham Asylum littered Home today promoting the fact that the hot looking game will allow you to play as The Joker. That's right, Gotham's Clown Prince of Crime will be yours to enjoy.

The ads have since been taken down and it would appear that we were not supposed to know about it yet. However, the world has inadvertently been made aware that "exclusive challenge maps" will let players take control of Batman's notorious arch nemesis. Whether or not these maps are simply exclusive to Joker, or exclusive to the PS3 entirely, is up for debate. The Home integration would seem to suggest that PS3 fans have a little bonus treat in store, however.

If this is indeed a PS3 exclusive, I believe I know which system I'll be picking this one up for. Not that Sony ever writes checks to allow this sort of thing.

[Update: Eidos and Warner Bros.' PR lasers were set to blast, confirming this not long after the story went live. Yes, this will be exclusive to the PlayStation 3, and The Joker will be available as a free download when the game is released. It appears he'll only be playable in the game's Challenge Maps.

More information can be found in the June issue of PlayStation: The Official Magazine, so go on and find that. Also... new screenshot of the Joker!]

fucking awesesome news. and stop bashing home, its pretty fun to spend some time in there and check out the new features they add, like the godfather room where you can play poker. they're constanly adding new stuff, its free, and some people enjoy being social, take a break from gaming.

Who said I was bashing Home, I was asking a legitimate question. And how you spend your time "socializing" is absolutely none of my business.

"Not that Sony ever writes checks to allow this sort of thing."

Of course they don't. Sony would never, ever do that. You know how many fanboys are going to come in here and berate you for even sarcastically hinting that Sony writes checks for exclusive stuff?

I'll probably still pick this up for 360 (I'm a total Achievement whore), but I will definitely try to snag a friend's PS3 copy so I can run through the Joker levels.

Well, it says on the sign "Available only on the Playstation 3". So I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's a PS3 exclusive.

@Usedtabe Jim's just a super troll I don't think he even believes that. Anyway how can you still be guessing it's is or is not exclusive to PS3. It says right there on the ad that its ONLY AVAILABLE ON THE PS3. I'm not some super internet matlock but come on, Jim. Either the game is only available on PS3 or the Joker is.

So you play as Joker pulling levers to activate traps in order to stop Batman as he pummels his way through rooms of goons?

Gamestop mentioned getting "exclusive challenge maps that allow you to play as a villain" as a preorder bonus for either version of Batman: Arkham Asylum... so I'm thinking owners of either version will be in luck. This is probably as much a PS3 exclusive as Assassin's Creed was.

@mrplow8 Right, kinda like how Vader is "exclusive" to SoulCalibur 4 on PS3

Yeah, but after seeing how much Assassin's Creed blew losing exclusivity to the title probably helped PS3 save face.

@Mxyzptlk Theres probably another character for the Xbox360 version, I hope it's not the Killer Croc cause I would be disappointed in the Joker then.

If they've just dropped the Joker into Batman's challenge rooms, I can't imagine it being all that fun. A novelty, sure, but little more. I envision disappointment.

Damn it. I don't guy why when a game comes out for a system, they have to have exclusive DLC. I have an Xbox 360. I'm not gonna run out and buy a PS3 and the game just so I can play as Joker. And I wouldn't expect anyone with just a PS3 to do the same if it were for Xbox.

What's really funny is how the PS3 puppets thought this sort of thing was horrible and wrong when it was happening on the 360.

also, i doubt this was accidently leaked -- Sony's probably trying to recover from the multiplat exclusives that we're seeing on GTA4 and Fallout3 for the 360. who knows, maybe the competition will garner us PS3 users some decent DLC.

Whether or not these maps are simply exclusive to Joker, or exclusive to the PS3 entirely is up for debate.

I don't think there's much debate there, considering "Available only on the Playstation 3" is pretty clear in that advertisement unless someone photoshopped the image.

I don't like the exclusivity, but that hasn't gained me the DLC for Fallout 3 on my PS3 to-date, so what do I know? I might get this game, but I want to see some reviews first. There definitely are a good number of people interested in the game at this moment, though. Especially after the Bane video.

I'm still not liking the shiney unreal engine style but I love the voice acting. Mark Hamil has such a great voice acting career. Playing as the joker doesn't really bother me that much and seeing as I only own a 360 I don't have much choice.

"But I will say that most PS3 fanboys on the web are usually much louder and ruder. Must be the lack of games to play that gives them so much time to post angry stuff."

Oh the irony.

Wow look at these comments, just be like me , own all 3, actually choose you preference ( instead of being forced to admit the only system you have is your preference, THATS NOT PREFERENCE) and these problems never come your way because you have a preference, DLC or not.

and don't give me that recession crap, if you couldn't figure out that letting a retard drive our economy was a bad idea I have no sympathy for you( however if you were like me ,underage, and couldn't vote at the time and you kick your parents out of bed @ 6 am ( like me )to go vote for anyone besides bush my heart truly goes out to you, but at the time alot of ya just didn't give a damn ).

man if this many people bitched about the actions of bush back in 2004 as they do right now we might have actually prevented this mess from happening.

If you can point out to me where I said anything definitive about the end product, then you may have a point. You may, however, notice the use of the word "if". It's a hypothetical. It sounds like a cheap exclusive to me, unless there's more to it than just inserting a different, decidedly stealth-free character model into challenge scenarios designed for a stealth-proficient character. My point being, if there's not more to it than what currently meets the eye, then I doubt it will be worth it.

"man if this many people bitched about the actions of bush back in 2004 as they do right now we might have actually prevented this mess from happening." Which would have been interesting since deregulation started with (any frequently regretted by) Clinton. Like all good clusterfucks, it's a bipartisan affair.

A guy goes away for a couple of days and the forum turns angry partisan for systems and politics instead of usual bizarre comedy partisan for systems. Did Destructoid get hit by the retard virus?

Well, it says exclusive Joker Challenge Maps, so I doubt it'll just be a palette swap. It's free, so whether it sucks or not, I'm not complaining.

This wouldn't convince me to get the PS3 version honestly. First off I don't own the thing. Secondly I'm an achievement whore as someone else so eloquently stated. They're just challenge room levels so it seems to me like you'd be doing a lot of the same things (take out the bad guys in a timely and efficient manner) as the regular Batman ones. If this meant you could play through the game's STORYLINE as Joker... well then you'd be in business gentlemen.
