No Japanese voices in FF XIII because the Xbox 360 RUINED it photo

Oh no! Everybody said that Final Fantasy XIII coming to the Xbox 360 would ruin the game because only Blu-ray could handle it, and it's all coming true! In a recent Q&A session, producer Yoshinori Kitase has revealed that the game might not ship with a Japanese voice track when it hits the US, because the Xbox 360 is rubbish and wrong. The prophecy of PS3 fans has been made flesh!

"Obviously, when we talk about XIII it's for PS3 and Xbox -- with PS3 being on Blu-ray there would be enough memory, but on Xbox probably not." explained Kitase, confirming everybody's worst fears. "At the moment we're thinking of releasing the voice in English only. Are there many people who would like to play with Japanese voices?"

Well, that's Final Fantasy XIII absolutely wrecked. Once again, the Xbox 360 has destroyed gaming by not indulging those pretentious people who only listen to Japanese voice tracks and pretend they're better, even though all the women sound like screaming three year olds in them and are ten times more annoying.

The PS3 fans were right all along. FF XIII going multiplatform has killed it, and MGS4 would need to be shipped on ten thousand DVDs if it ever went to the 360. It's all true, and we didn't listen!

I'll never understand why people want JP voice tracks so much. "deyre bettr n usa va's lol" Yeah, but turn off subtitles if you can. What the fuck're they saying? =P

Sorry, but I'm one of those rare people who would rather hear the dialog in English than have Japanese plus text.

That's jim for ya, sarcastic from dusk till dawn, wouldn't have it any other way.

But this is kinda dissapointing, english voice acting can miss the mark sometimes, and that japanese voice option is nice to have.

Even though Lost Odyssey had German, French, Japanese, Italian and English voice over.

Easy solution... don't dub it. For fucks sake, no one wants to hear that terrible english crap.

They should at least have a poll to see how wanted it is. Can't they just make the 360 version 5 discs long or something so they can fit both languages?
(joking)

Anyway, since I've never actually played an FF game apart from X and X-2, but those were both demos, are they dubbed in all 5 main languages when they come to Europe or is it just English?

The wording's vague.

Does that mean no US FF will have a Japanese track, or only the 360?

I think this is more of a case, of Squenix developing FFXIII as a PS3 exclusive from the start. Had they been sensible and gone multiformat, they'd know how to even things out on 360. Lost Odyssey had both language track options, and while an early game, still looked great. I think Square get too caught up in the beauty aspects of game design far too much, than they'll ever admit, filling all that Blu Ray up, like Kojima and still wanting more.

I'm all for dual language options, but if need be, I'll take an english language one. Its important to understand what you need to do in the game, otherwise what's the point, than to hear original languages.

Why the f*ck would i want a jap track in a story driven game? I havent had a problem with the dubbing in the other FF so i doubt i will have a problem with this.

The FFXIII demo came to 5gb on its own. Gonna be a lot of disks, especially with more than one audio track.

Okay... BULLSHIT!

As an owner of both systems I find this stupid. Just the japanese voice track on the PS3 version and charge money to the xbox 360 owners for DLC, you lik money don't you SE?

I'm buying the PS3 version anyways just because... well it feels right.

PS3 owners can import it from Japan anyway, then they can have Japanese text too!
Cause everyone knows the more japanese it is the better the experiance.

They won't want fans of one side to feel their version is inferior to the other ( at least in the US versions) so its safe to say what they will do to one version they will do to both.

I generally didn't care either way since Square-Enix's localization is great, but yes, there IS a problem with not having a JP language OPTION, because now that we know PS3 owners might have HAD it, but may well have LOST it because of the jump to multiplatform, we got screwed.

But of course, nothing's set in stone. We still don't have any confirmed info regarding what the final product will hold.

But seriously, regardless of your voice acting preferences or your level of Japanophilia, you HAVE to agree that this f*cking sucks. A product we're going to get may well be held back because of the addition of a new platform into the mix.

Blue Dragon came with English, Japanese and French audio tracks. I can't see why FFXIII couldn't have both Japanese and English. Also, if the Xbox 360 version requires more disks, then who cares?

Wierd, when it comes to movies, I want the original tracks...but with games I don't mind the english dubs....maybe even prefer them, I think there's a way better effort when it comes to dubbing games....I'm sure my FF loving friends won't mind.

I prefer Japanese, mostly because it's authentic. The Japanese voice actors would have been chosen becuase they were right for the characters they are portraying. Change every actor to an American surf dude and suddenly the tone has completely shifted. It's not really much different from switching the actors in a foreign film to Americans just so you don't have to read subtitles. [Wait, something about Hollywood remakes...?]
The original is authentic, so I for one would prefer it. Or maybe I'm just making a point and couldn't really give a fuck...

Why don't they just add the Japanese track to the PS3 version as an exclusive. Blu-ray has the space. Why waste it?

This pisses me off. At least put the fucking Japanese voices on the PS3 version?!

I'm currently learning Japanese and gaming in Japanese with subtitles is an excellent way of getting your speed up.

Fuck everyone with an Errorbox. Fuck them in the ass with a cactus. A cactus with aids.

They've not yet mentioned all the other corners they've had to cut because so many western gamers are too fucking tight to buy a proper current gen console.

The reason people prefer Japanese voices over English voices is because English voice actors are horrible at dubbing. They feel so fake and out of character, and only a few games have ever gotten it right. And since Japanese culture is weaved into the story, such as their style of humor and drama, it fits better with voice actors who understand that mentality and culture. When game developers try to westernize the dialogue, it never really is westernized, it seems like they are trying to impersonate the Japanese culture instead of embracing it.

Who needs voices? They should remove all voice acting, just make everyone read and problem solved! Haha. Of course you'll still get the elite few who think the Japanese text is better and will play with a translation FAQ by their side...

Since when have Final Fantasy games had shit English dubbing? I always found them satisfactory, it's not as if they're Baiten Kaitos for goodness sake.

How can you tell whether the actors suit the characters more? You can't even understand what they're saying.

Cry more, weaboos.

Ignoring the sarcasm. The developer said that there is definitely enough space for it on blu-ray, but none on DVD9.

They also hinted they're looking into including if it's a popular option. Meaning PS3 will most likely see Japanese Voices, 360 won't.

As for the whole argument, I have to say that it comes down to what it is. I'm a big fan of Naruto (Yeah, I know, I've heard it all before, Narutard this, Narufag that, :p ) and I can't stand the english voice acting, but I can't play Valkyria Chronicles in Japanese, Or Disgaea.

I also suggest that Bluerei picks up a copy of Dragon Quest 8, The voice acting in that is of the highest quality, if you want an example of bad voice acting, Can anyone beat "I wanted to be the one that filled your dark soul with LIIIIIIghhhT!" in DMC1?

Switch that cactus for a Cactuar and you may have yourself some kind of PS3 Fanboy / Squenix doushinji on your hands!

(Just don't let Squenix find out though, cuz when you're just about to release it, they'll claim copyright infringement.)

But appaerently if we want things we were gonna have were selfish.

Seriously back in the day we didn't have this problem, when they made games for the genesis,SNES,saturn, and playstation they talored the game to the system and if your system couldn't swing with another system too bad, tough luck, and I wish we were still operating under that philosophy, not all consoles are created equal and as a person who went out of my way to make sure he had them all(for the fact that I thought devs would play on each consoles strengths instead of pulling this equality bullsh*t) I know there not equal.

Jim's sarcasm aside, this is pretty important for many people. Being from a country were everything is subtitled I wouldn't want this game dubbed in English for the same reason I don't want American movies dubbed in whatever language and that doesn't make an elitist yankophile.

Yeah, and the japanese voice actors never get anything wrong. Just like there are bad dubs, there are bad jap voice actors. Only someone with jap beer googles, would think everything they do in japan is perfection. Don't get me wrong, I love the animes and games (pretty hardcore in fact) etc, but noboby is perfect. Each to their own.

Squenix, just use more dvds, you muppets. No one cares about extra dvds really.

If the English voice actors are pants or annoying I like to turn on Japanese audio if it's available and use subtitles. Admittedly, not many games allow this (right now I can only think of Eternal Sonata) but it's a shame PS3 owners will miss out. I don't understand why they can't just leave that feature in for the PS3 version.

Sadly though, I suspect falinter is close to the truth...
