With the amount of comic books, movies and other random spin-offs coming out of videogames these days, it has almost become odd for a major game not to be franchised out into a billion other entertainment mediums. We're not even sure if EA, Activision and Ubisoft can be considered solely game developers anymore since they've got their fingers in so many different mediums. It's great for gamers when the end results are good, but in the case of movies, they almost never are. This is one of the many reasons we will most likely not be seeing a Grand Theft Auto movie.
Speaking with the Los Angeles Times, Dan Houser, the vice president of creative development at Rockstar Games, said, "We don't believe that the Grand Theft Auto games, which are massive in scope and structurally complex, can be adequately compressed into a two-hour movie.
"It seems obvious to us that maintaining the long-term integrity of any entertainment property has been dependent on not making substandard spin-off products to people whose primary interest is making a quick buck. If we ever decide to do a film, it will be because we have resolved our creative doubts, and while retaining enough control to ensure that if the movie is terrible, at least we will know we ruined the property ourselves."
Pretty much my thoughts exactly. A GTA movie wouldn't be anything special at all considering that the game's plots, which pay plenty of homage to crime films, are mostly about rising up in the crime world -- and that has been done to death in film. It's the freedom of the open world that makes GTA GTA, and taking that away would make it something else.

You must be kidding me....
RockStar and pride? Anyone who says these two words in one sentence deserves lifetime.
RockStar is like any other money grabbing company, i think they are worse than EA now.
RockStar blatantly lied to customers about the PC version of the game, just to get more money.
By no chance is that game built from ground up for the PC. That's just a lazy port. Just like Bully. Max Payne is their next victim. They can't recreate the noir elements so they make a mass murderer out of Maxi. Pride.....yeah....
+2 ATK!
+3 SPD
+9,001 BALLS!
Ah the customary wronged gamer shows up as per usual. Why don't you grow a set and stop acting like a company owes you anything you whiny tit. How about adding to the stereotype a little bit more and start an internet protest group with you're fellow retards? You could join up with the Valve haters, all meet up and hopefully jump off a fucking bridge together.
As for Max Payne, could you send over the demo please since you don't like it because all I've seen are a few screenshots so far and I can't judge a game by a picture.
The fact that games borrow techniques and concepts used in the movie industry is not bad per se, if done correctly. Games should be merited by what they are, games. No need to water down your product or IP by forcing it into a medium in which it didn't fit into in the first place.
Although what I do like is cross media promotion as used in IPs like Dead Space and Dante's Inferno. That way you can cater to the strengths of each medium (be it comic, animation or videogame) by delivering content that was designed for it specifically in the first place.
Maybe a happy ending?
Oh yes, i must be wrong.
-The game didn't even start up on most of the ATI cards
-Millions of bugs everywhere(graphical and gameplay)
-Monstous system requriments, the biggest as of yet
-Memory leak issues
-The ticker and the billboards didn't work until patch 1.0.3.0(was in the console versions)
-There is no Moon in the game.Yes, there is no f-ing Moon, which was in the console versions
-Controller, and gamepad problems(functionality, and ingame issues)
-No anti-cheat protection, due to RockStar selling out to Microsoft.(GFWL)
I have nothing in common with those Valve fanboys, they got their money's worth with L4D, they just don't want to get the second part so soon.
I had enough of R*'s lies, that's all.
Go to GTAforums.com. A lot of people think the same way as me.
RockStar does a lousy job at supporting products, that's the truth.
"Why don't you grow a set and stop acting like a company owes you anything you whiny tit."
So you think i should let a company rob me?
I own a store, and if i would sell my customers crap like this, they would surely demand a refund.
Which reminds me, i think GameStop gave refunds(for the first time?) to everyone for this game, that says a lot, doesn't it?
Go to the forums, haha, way to prove the point there. So let me get this straight then, in your opinion they always do this or at least have in past games yeah? So why continue to buy the games exactly? Why not just shut the fuck up and stop buying them? It's exactly what I was saying, what would you have to moan about then?
Let a company rob you? Oh my god what the hell is wrong with people like you? I'm being serious, did someone from Rockstar come and put a gun in your mouth and force you to buy the game? Did they break into your house and take money and just leave the game?
Nothing in common with the Valve haters? Instead of just shutting the fuck up and not buying it they start crying about it, yip you're right, nothing in common at all.
Oh and Dexter is right you should try reading; the 'ed' on the of a word kind of changes the meaning, but honestly you change it to suit your needs.
Lastly, what about this Max Payne demo you have played? Where's my copy?
Personally I think games take a big steaming crap on movies from a great height. It's a more powerful storytelling medium in every way.
so, does this mean that Uwe Boll is finally out there looking for new career opportunities?

Also, the real reason they're not making one is the fact that Richie Cunningham starred in a movie ages ago called "Grand Theft Auto" and the studios and Rockstar had to basically sign an agreement not to step on each other's toes.
Halo Wars would just be another boring RTS if it weren't for the Halo in the title. Now it's a badass action packed Halo game! Bungie could probably take that same piece of turd and resell it under the name "Halo" and those same idiots would probably repurchase it. A franchise name goes a long way.
