No Grand Theft Auto IV DLC and Chinatown Wars in 2008 photo

OK, first of all -- if you seriously thought you were going to see the Xbox 360-exclusive Grand Theft Auto IV downloadable content this year, you're a fool. Or Microsoft.

During some super cereal-sounding BMO Capital Markets Conference in New York City today, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said of the DLC: "It's close to being complete. That said, it may move into the second quarter. Downloadable content is a big undertaking. It's important to be really special."

Well, it certainly should be "special" -- putting out, say, a handful of half-assed maps nearly a year after the game's release just wouldn't cut it. At this point, gamers should be expecting mind-blowing, game-changing content.

And the Nintendo DS title Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars? Zelnick says we probably won't see that until the first half of the fiscal year (read: hopefully by April).

So there you have it, no more new Grand Theft Auto for you in 2008. Might we suggest an alternative

If the DLC was a zombie infestation storyline I would buy a 360 again just for that. Anything less and I'll pass. Will anyone care about DLC after the New Year?

I wish more developers took the criterion root, they release something awesome just about every six months and for free as well.

I completely forgot about the DLC to be honest.

Being the DLC whore I am, I'll be buying it no matter what, but at this point the only way I'll feel satisfied with my purchase is if it turns into Vice City 2. I'd also like my dildo sword back please.

Honestly, who the fuck cares at this point? GTAIV came and went quicker than almost every other title this year. Just goes to show it couldn't live up to the hype, nor did it even come close to deserving it, imo.

GTA IV? Oh right...that empty game that came out in April...Heh, still remember all the "DLC Out in Spring 2008" signs that were plastered everywhere out here.

Too bad Saints Row 2 has all my Open-Gang-World Attention Right now.

SR2 was better than GTA4... Niko's story sold the game but there was much less fun in replaying it without all the wacky activities and side missions the series is known for.

I recently bought Saints row 2 to get my share of running about mayhem, and although i am happy with it to an extent, i still find myself thinking that GTA IV was a far more superior game. the cheats function in saints row 2 is cumbersome and i found it a deterrent for using cheats which i found strangely odd since i'm sure the reason most people bought was just to use cheats and cause mayhem everywhere.

Also, i found that the protagonist is in fact a giant douche who should have probably died in the first one. I'm not one who focuses on story usually at all, but SR2 really opened my eyes to how important it can be to a game. Going through the missions i found i really did not give a shit whether my character lived or died, or about the future of the saints. they were truly a bunch of assholes you wish would just die.

I for one still look forward to GTA IV DLC and will probably end up playing it far more than SR2

Am I the only one who didn't completely ignore the "may" in his quote?

Saints Row 2 is incredibly easy. If you do the side missions first you are basically superhuman with unlimited ammo on most guns, and are uninjured by falls from any length. Its very difficult to die in a mission if you follow that path. And GTA4's story was infinitely better - SR2 doesn't really have much of a story by comparison.
