No co-op coming to Killzone 2, no collector's edition either photo

In the weeks before a major game's release, you usually get told what a title can do, not what it can't, but Guerrilla Software and Sony has been on a cockblocking rampage this morning, confirming that there will be no co-op play in Killzone 2, nor will there be any collector's edition.

"Currently there are no plans for co-op in Killzone 2," states game director Mathijs de Jonge. "Technically it would be quite difficult to implement it for the story mode as for example the mission sections are loaded in seamlessly - no loading screens - and that would cause issues with teleporting players. Even without co-op it's still a big game and gamers will have plenty to sink their teeth into."

Sony's Jeff Rubenstein had his own disappointment for Killzone fans, confirming in blog comments that "There is no collector's edition slated for Killzone 2." He added that since Guerrilla had put all of its efforts into the game itself, Sony had no cause to actively pursue a special edition.

Which is fair enough. I don't think a co-op feature should ever be mandatory if that's not something the developer wishes to pursue, and as far as collector's editions go, I think there are far too many of those on the market already, many of which are undeserved. I couldn't give a stuff about the "loss" of either of these.

Besides which, with only a few weeks to go before the game's release, who was seriously expecting some shock co-op announcement?

To this I say good. There are far too many collectors editions as is, and Id rather have tight multiplayer at the sacrifice of coop play *crosses fingers*.

So wait, not having a collectors edition is a BAD thing? I never buy these so called collectors editions because they always turn out to either be a letdown or a bunch of extra crap that I have nowhere to put.

They could have at least done something like Resistance 2's co-op. :(

AS far as no collectors edition...cool...kind of sad about no co-op.

collectors boxes seem like a good idea. but, normally whats on the disk inside turns out to be shit anyway. instead of collectors boxes. they should call them shiny, trade in tins!

The only Collector's Editions I've wanted (and I only just recently bought the one for Fallout) were Fallout and Bioshock, simply because they included some decently made premiums that were worth getting. My Lunchbox sits in my bedroom and my bobblehead rests comfortably on my television.

As far as co-op is concered, I didn't really have much incentive to pick this up anyway at this point, but nixing a feature that's greatly underserved on the PS3 seems like a stupid error on their part.

Some of the better games I've enjoyed on the 360 have been co-op titles.

I am glad that they actually spent more time on the game than developing marketing plans (collectors ed.) and coop experiences. I am somewhat bummed about about no coop, but as long as the game is tight, I am happy.

In all honesty though, I hope they release more stuff on their site with dev interviews and such because I really want to see what they went through to create this sex muffin of a game.

I think K2 will be safe in its Singleplayer and Multiplayer that's looking like a rival to TF2.

For Co-op, Resistance 2 (or L4D if your of the green persuasion) has them all beat anyway.

Meh, I could care less, I'm still buying this game,I want to shot people in the head, I don't really care for co-op.

I would have liked co-op, but there have been plenty of strong games without it. Without it, the campaign can be built more around the player because they don't have to account for a second person who otherwise would have to sit there while player 1 saves the day.

I'll be happy with bots so you can team up against the comp in muliplayer arenas, like the first one... I believe it has them.

I didn't expect co-op in this since I've never heard it talked about when the title was brought up. The only thing I really want is a great single player campaign followed up with some kick ass multiplayer. If it has that, and looks like the recent videos, its all I want.

Can't seem to make myself finish a FPS on console without co-op. Nice to see them not pushing out another lame collector's edition with a stupid doll that no one is going to care about in a month.

I rather them not include co-op than just wedge it in for the sake of a buzz word feature. The lack of the special edition isn't big either. I never get SE's as what I want is the game, not the cheap figure or already known behind the scenes stuff you get.

so, what's wrong with teleporting players? players dealt with that in halo co-op and i don't remember anyone throwing a fit about it. that's just what you get for not having the honor of being P1. :P

Oh well online co-op via story mode can only last so long. Now on the other side, online co-op via Resistance 2 lasts a LOOOONG time as there is very little story to them.

Also, no collectors edition = awesome, no one is going to cry about not spending an extra $30 to get an art booklet and a music cd.

So Killzone 2 doesn't include co-op and now some of you think it's a bad thing to have? C'mon, the game won't suffer for not having co-op, though I'm always disappointed when I can't bring a friend along in the campaign, but saying you never liked co-op anyway is a little transparent.

I also agree that no co-op is a little disappointing, but it's not something that I prioritize in games. I love COD4 single player and I'm not really missing the Co-op.

Thank God there's no collector's edition. I applaud them for that.

Now they won't rip content off the game to put into the collector's edition like other companies do.

This is all good to me. I would have preferred co-op, but it's not a mandatory thing.

I thought co-op was pretty much a prerequisite for these types of games. I guess it gives them something to tout as an added feature next time.

can't stand multiplayer, live for single... if my buddy can join me he rents it on gamefly and we have something fun to do besides rock band on our game wednesdays.

So yeah, I'm skipping this one.

Too many shooters out there anyways.

Thats fine that theres no Co-op, Im not a huge fan of it anymore anyways in a FPS. Im glad I want all the graphical beauty of killzone 2 to be full screen and all for me! As for the special edition, Meh I wouldn't buy it for this game anyways. Only video game series I'm really die hard for.

This game is coming out in a couple weeks? Man, why is Sony not promoting this game more? I haven't heard all that much about it at all. I still want it, but I doubt it's gonna be a system seller at this point, since people who aren't visiting sites like these aren't even gonna know what the hell this game is or when it's coming out. Add to that the fact that the only news I've heard about it is that features that would be awesome to have aren't gonna be in the game... It seems like they are just doing the best they can to screw themselves over
