In the weeks before a major game's release, you usually get told what a title can do, not what it can't, but Guerrilla Software and Sony has been on a cockblocking rampage this morning, confirming that there will be no co-op play in Killzone 2, nor will there be any collector's edition.
"Currently there are no plans for co-op in Killzone 2," states game director Mathijs de Jonge. "Technically it would be quite difficult to implement it for the story mode as for example the mission sections are loaded in seamlessly - no loading screens - and that would cause issues with teleporting players. Even without co-op it's still a big game and gamers will have plenty to sink their teeth into."
Sony's Jeff Rubenstein had his own disappointment for Killzone fans, confirming in blog comments that "There is no collector's edition slated for Killzone 2." He added that since Guerrilla had put all of its efforts into the game itself, Sony had no cause to actively pursue a special edition.
Which is fair enough. I don't think a co-op feature should ever be mandatory if that's not something the developer wishes to pursue, and as far as collector's editions go, I think there are far too many of those on the market already, many of which are undeserved. I couldn't give a stuff about the "loss" of either of these.
Besides which, with only a few weeks to go before the game's release, who was seriously expecting some shock co-op announcement?
*pout*
I am so eager to get this, I'm taking a day off that day and getting all hot n sweaty.
As far as co-op is concered, I didn't really have much incentive to pick this up anyway at this point, but nixing a feature that's greatly underserved on the PS3 seems like a stupid error on their part.
Some of the better games I've enjoyed on the 360 have been co-op titles.
In all honesty though, I hope they release more stuff on their site with dev interviews and such because I really want to see what they went through to create this sex muffin of a game.
For Co-op, Resistance 2 (or L4D if your of the green persuasion) has them all beat anyway.
Also, no collectors edition = awesome, no one is going to cry about not spending an extra $30 to get an art booklet and a music cd.
Now they won't rip content off the game to put into the collector's edition like other companies do.
So yeah, I'm skipping this one.
Too many shooters out there anyways.
wow that's a MAJOR downer for me :-(
