No Blizzcon in 2012, convention returns in 2013 photo

Blizzard has declared that there will be no Blizzcon this year, meaning that World of Warcraft fans have lost the one thing in real life they were planning to do this year. Haha, insulting nerd humor!

The convention will return in 2013.

A "jam-packed schedule" has been blamed for the lack of Blizzcon, with the studio working hard on Diablo III, Titan, a new WoW expansion and updates to StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm. The Battle.net championship will be held in Asia toward the end of the year.

Pretty huge news! Were you looking forward to Blizzon this year, or are you totally cool with this?

"working hard on diablo 3"

Blizzcon usually happens in August/September... does that mean they still wont have released Diablo 3 or Pandaria by next fall?

Thought D3 was slates for a Q1 release and that they were'nt going to do a "yearlong patch" like they did w/ Wrath of the Lich King...

The truth is Blizzard is preparing for the end of the world, they are using all of their resources to build bunkers!

What Soulcage said. I'd rather them focus on tuning up v 1.1 of Diablo III, Mists of Pandaria, and Starcraft II related content.

There is a limit to what they can produce. If they weren't ready to make any major announcements then i have to problems with a 1 year postponement.

Okay.. It's not like the people making the games are the same people putting the convention together, they hire professional event organizers to do that. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess they just don't have something big to show-off.

Not surprising, because, I don't think they were going to announce an expansion pack to WoW or Diablo 3 or heart of the swarm, especially that last one, because it's released somewhere end of this year)

So........Titan? Nope.

@Facial Tentacles:
"It's not like the people making the games are the same people putting the convention together, they hire professional event organizers to do that"

The people making the games are required to put together presentations on game systems, lore, the making of their games from a technical perspective, and so on. Preparing for all of those presentations (scripting them, getting someone to cut together a teaser video showing skill rune effects or whatever, etc.) takes a lot of time, and can't really be outsourced.

You prefer games getting rush and release as soon as possible ?

It kinda makes sense. Most Blizzcon shows had a hook such as the unveiling of a new character class, a new expansion, and so on. If they truly don't have anything new to show then why bother ponying up cash to watch the 'con?

However, Blizzard's still doing the WoW Arena Tournaments and Starcraft II matches that are staples of every Blizzcon, so just having those alone isn't a total loss.

Kinda funny. I know people that treat that shit like a religion. And I hear that's bad. Would be nice to see Diablo 3 finally release this year though.

Blizzcon was always such a cash cow for Blizzard, I'm shocked that they'd cancel it. Perhaps they've built ivory machines that churn out platinum covered dollar bills instead. Or maybe the execs don't want to leave their bathtubs filled with melted gold.

The poor WoW emo crowd is still suffering and slowly recovering from the wrath of the Cannibal Corpse guy apparently.

Come on people. Why are we all opposed to conventions? It's good to socialize with people with common interests and for developers to get out of the office every now and then to meet the fans. Would you truly rather they simply be bottled up and only know mechanics rather than the impact of a game?

That's wierd. I doubt the people putting on Blizzcon are the same people making the games. I can't imagine it not being profitable and if it isn't they can double their admission prices. Blizzcon was the one I was sort of entertained by. Was it that shit that happened last year with the singer?
