No 250GB 360 hard drive planned outside of bundles photo

While filling up your 360's hard drive is getting to be an easier and easier task thanks to the plethora of quality downloadable games and game demos on the system it doesn't seem that Microsoft will be releasing a 250GB hard drive on the regular any time soon. Speaking at X10 to Joystiq Xbox Live Product Manager Aaron Greenberg said that the 250GB hard drive is going to remain exclusive to limited edition bundles like the Modern Warfare and Final Fantasy XIII ones.

"We did it with the Modern Warfare bundle, which, as people know, was a huge success, completely sold out," he said. "We're excited to bring it back with the limited edition Final Fantasy bundle." He explained that it is this limited nature that makes the 250GB special editions so special and then concluded that, "We're always evaluating, but for now we feel like the 120 is serving us very well as the standard offering, and then having the 250 as a limited edition is a good balance."

I'll admit that I haven't filled up my 120GB, but I'm sure there are people out there who would at least like to see a 250GB hard drive sold by itself if not with a regular system that is readily available. Maybe Microsoft is just shying away from the higher price point that a bigger hard drive would bring.

Greenberg: No plans for 250GB Xbox hard drive outside of bundles [Joystiq]

Don't really need bigger than 120gb either.

I've used like 20gig of my 120gb HDD. I think it had 20gb reserved to start with so only started with around 100gb.

I haven't filled my 60GB PS3 either, despite having to install everything on PS3, and kept some games installed so I can pick up and play, like MGS4 and Valkyria.

If you delete stuff you don't need/don't play. You'll be fine with 120gb HDD.

The price and size of the 360 HDDs is really quite disgusting. I got my latest Terabyte drive for under $100.

With as many games as I install to the HDD and all the DLC these days, I've come close to filling up a 120, and would like more space for comfort's sake, but I'm not going to pretend I give a shit if they release a 250. They obviously will one day, after these special edition consoles are through being cool, but they'll charge $200+ for it, and all you can do is laugh at them at that point.

250gb hdd's are available through the modding community and they even work with Xbox Live.

I still have my original 20gig and it is getting full, but I don't see upgrading anytime soon.

I upgraded my PS3 to 320GB for about fifty bucks. Couldn't MSFT just release a special Xbox360 HDD enclosure so people could upgrade their storage at a similarly reasonable price?

Reading posts about Xbox hard drives just makes me pissed because I want a 120GB, but the price is just bullshit and it's not going down any time soon.

Sounds like a great way to make double sure that those limited edition bundles continue to sell out, and add more system sales to the bottom line. You want a bigger HDD? No problem, as long as you buy a new XBox 360.

I just manage my downloads on my 20gb and I'm fine. I'm not paying that much for a 120gb harddrive.

You can find a good 250 gig hd for 50 bucks, if MS were to sell it separately for the 360, it would be at least $200. Sounds ridiculous, for it is, ans so is what they charge for their smaller hard drives. PS3 has 1up on 360 in that you can swap the hd with any which one you want bought at market price value (ex. 250 gig hd for 50 bucks).

How long until Microsoft HAVE to put the prices of all HDDs down due to unfair competition against other Hard Drives? I am appalled by the excessive pricing of those drives, but they're needed for optimal gameplay, XBOX Originals and on Demand...

What I would like to see is all these clever hackers, programmers, and modders come up with their own XBLA alternative... just to watch Microsoft shit themselves.

Let us do what we can on the PS3 or bust. I refuse to buy an overpriced hard drive even if it means my 20gb needs to be managed better. Considering prices of stand alone hard drives it is an insult to my wallet and intelligence.

I really want the 250GB hard drives to come out at the same price as the current 120GB ones so the 120 will drop in price.

But XBOX accessories will never reach a reasonable price, so if I ever feel too constricted by my 20GB hard drive I'll probably just get one of those $80 ones from China. If only China made those wireless receivers...

I made my own 250GB harddrive for half of what the JPN users will spend, plus I used MS' own HDD Transfer Disc/cable to relocate all my stuff from my official 120GB. Not to mention it works with live, since it's officially flashed with MS' own 250GB firmware. If you're tech savvy, it isn't too difficult.

Because they rather make you sepnd $400 for an entire system rather than paying $200 for a new hd.

Heh, you mentioned "Microsoft" and "reasonable price" in the same sentence. That's a good one. ;P

It's probably a good idea that they're not releasing this hard drive outside of bundles, because no sane person would pay for it.

If they released it outside of a bundle, it would cost more than the console itself, looking at the price of their 120gb. This is ridiculous, HDD's aren't that expensive.

their hard drives are a rip off. Why can't they be cheaper? I got a 320gb HDD for my PS3 for 60 bucks, I expect to pay around the same for my 360... My 360 could use a new hdd. 20 gbs is nothing

"...is serving us very well"

This sums up the problems with Microsoft's attitude very concisely.. who's serving who, here?

As said above, if you're a tech savvy you can make your own 250GB drive. I don't need that much space, but I made one in order to get a 7200rpm drive, and 250gb didn't cost much more than 120.

What the fuck? Some of us are constantly running up against the 120GB limit. We shouldn't have to buy a whole new console plus a game in order to get a bigger hard drive.

I think 250GB is pretty excesive but only for those who use their 360 for gaming. If one uses it to it's full potential for Gaming, Music, Movies & TV News, Social Networking then I totally agree that a 250GB 360 is totally awesoem. I will be getting mine with the FFXIII bundle. STOKED!

Game installs take about 50 gigs on my drive. Since xbox 360 makes so loud noises when playing straight from the disk, installation is always a must. Microsoft should just cut prices of hard drives to reasonable level and make them bigger (500gb or 1tb).

perhaps we just need to mod our consoles for bigger hard drives like the ps3... oh wait... I can just replace my hd in my ps3 with anything i want (as long as it is a laptop hd)... epic fail here MS, epic fail
