When the holidays roll around and you only have a week left to shop for a gift for someone, even if you had no prior interest, you will find yourself looking for a 3DS and a copy of Mario 3D.

I still don't understand how the sales of Skyward Sword clearing a million on a console with tens of millions of units sold can be deemed a success. It's a first tier AAA Nintendo title and it only manages a million in sales? On any other platform sales like that for such a title would be considered anemic. Baffles me.
It's satisfying to see Jim directly respond to the people that knew all along that the 3DS was fine all along. Making fun with the DOOM meme is a cowardly way to squirm out of his prior stance of negativity and unfair bashing.

I've been consumed by my 3DS. I have been playing it almost exclusively during this holiday season. Pushmo, VVVVVV, Zelda, Mario, and the free Mario vs. Donkey Kong download have been incredibly fun. Congrats to Nintendo for turning this ship around.

Well no shit Nintendo is doing just fine. I honestly can't believe that some of you dipshits actually thought that Nintendo would go under, or even worse, go 3rd fucking party like Sega. Nintendo went all out with the advertising for Skyward Sword. It's everywhere. You can't escape it. They have sunk millions of dollars into advertising this game. The result should be that this game should be selling on the same level as NSMB or Mario Kart.
And it's not.

Zelda of today under Aonuma's guidance is nothing even remotely like that. But guess what is? Skyrim. Skyrim does the job of what Zelda did today better than Zelda does now. And the sales show this. People are picking the real kick ass action RPG over the shitty puzzle game in Zelda's clothing.

With a nice price cut, sure the handheld isn't doomed, that wasn't obvious from the beginning though, logically speaking the handheld was in a bit of trouble in the beginning, and only a stupid fanboy who thinks he's always correct would assume otherwise. But with the unexpected of a price drop, and some marios, it is now on it's way.

They're the best selling titles because there is literally nothing else to buy for the systems anymore. Sadly.
So it has nothing to do with the fact that both are great titles? Even if the system had dozens of games out worth buying, I can guarantee you that both those titles would still be at the for front of sales.

Actually its a sign that doesnt matter at all. Pretty much every system in existence sells even when replaced, gba, ps2, ds, snes, doesnt matter.
What is a good sign is that the 3ds has outpaced the ds's first year fiscal sales with 3 months to go and at least 5 big releases left before that. 14+ million sold worldwide when the fiscal year hasnt ended yet is impressive.

I get the feeling a lot of people don't know much about how Nintendo runs their company. I am quite certain that before pouring investments into the first truly 3D handheld system (which they knew would be a controversy for children under 6) they made damn sure they had enough money in savings to float them in case it failed. Especially considering their biggest failure ever happened to be the LAST time they tried to release a 3D system, the Virtual Boy. They like to be innovative, even experimental. That doesn't mean they're unrealistic about the risks. They're not going to die, because they know how to put on a parachute before jumping out of the plane.
