To those of you waiting for a price cut on the Wii, keep waiting. And stop being so damned cheap. In an interview with Reuters, Nintendo's George Harrison states that there's no plans to cut the price of the Wii in the US.
"We'll stay at USD 249 for the foreseeable future," says Harrison, as he rolls over in a pit of gold to scratch his back. "We are still selling everything we can make."
And he's right -- demand for the console is still high. Even with the promise of increased unit shipments this Holiday, there's still the threat of a shortage. Wii Sports is a very, very good game, guys.

That's all that goes on at Nintendo, money vault diving. Why do you think Brawl was delayed? They had to expand it.
Also why a price cut if they are still the cheapest console? They don't have to untill the core gets a little cheaper.
Oh wow, imagine the money.
People expected a Wii price cut? Are you for serious...?
But seriously, there are a few more games for it than Smash Bros. If I was dumb enough last year to buy a wii on the HOPES that SSBB would be good, then I wasted my money.
I have 4 games aside from sports, and I could pick any two of them out at random and they would justify the purchase to me. In addition to that, SMG and SSBB might just make this the 2nd best Nintendo Console purchase I've ever made.
The gym comment was a joke (joke/sarcasm detector status: BROKEN) again, the Wii is nice, and I REALLY want to play SSBB but Im not shelling out over 300 beans just for one game. Thats using the PS3 logic.
And don't slam on Nintendo for "all the renigs". Every other developer in existence is guilty of exactly the same thing. It's the problem of marketing a game that hasn't been finished, snags are hit.
I would agree with you that the 360 is clearly the best system on the market currently for people who game more frequently, but sitting on the 360 and looking down at the number two saying that there is only ONE title that can justify the machine (and it isn't even released yet! Who knows about the future) isn't just tainted with fanboy-ism and self-glorification, it's downright idiotic and closed-minded.
Oh I know every developer has had a history for that, but trust me, Nintendo (and Ive owned every system of theirs since the NES except Virtual Boy) has done it the most. I love Zelda, I love Metroid, but again, nothing I haven't played before, I want innovation, not just the same game..with shinier graphics and a slight change in story.
Granted, they take their time and ensure that the game is almost FLAWLESS when it comes out, it just burns me each time they announce something and you and I both KNOW thats not the final release date.
I like the 360, because well, their online system is almost perfect, consistent titles, (too many sometimes if you ask me) Im not in LOVE with MS, but so far all the games that I have really wanted to play have come out, on time, and with very few gripes.
Added note: I think Nintendo just sits on top and gives their consoles the "second child" treatment, they own the handheld market, and as long as they retain that title, all of their console products come in second place.
So WiiNintendo has the exact same post up, word for word. Either you're "Max" over there or they plagiarized.
Either way it's filed under "exclusive" over there. Which is funny.
But yeah, there is absolutely no incentive for nintendo to drop the price. People appear perfectly happy with the $250 price tag, so why would they?
"Oh I know every developer has had a history for that, but trust me, Nintendo (and Ive owned every system of theirs since the NES except Virtual Boy) has done it the most."
Prove it. I've had just as many disappointments from EA, MS, Sony; (hey remember the last two PS2 and the upcoming PS3 Metal Gear titles? Oh yeah, obviously not. And don't forget how many times Halo 3 was pushed back.) You're taking a reality of the industry and blaming it all on Nintendo.
"but so far all the games that I have really wanted to play have come out, on time, and with very few gripes. "
Which games are those? I haven't bought a game that came out on it's initial launch date since . . . well, never. The way you can tell when a launch date is going to be pushed back is that the launch date is for a video game. But let's be serious; would you rather have a great, well polished title a few weeks later, or a piece of shit on time?
baiting me into a flame war ay? Ive been around the bend way too many times and banged way too many hookers to even bother with that. Sorry for just disregarding you like that, but uh, I dont think investing in a Wii is a wise investment....just yet. and I cant have a discussion in a Wii thread if Im not praising it? WTF?!
If you love it man, then go for it. I said Nintendo is infamous for doing that, and justly so, I didnt say that eveyr other developer is innocent of that.
The games that I have enjoyed and came out with time have been Dead Rising, Guitar hero 2, Gears of War, Lost planet, Orange Box, I played Halo 3 and it wasnt my cup of tea, multiplayer is great, but it gets boring pretty fast. Gears is still numbah 1 for multi player.
And I already stated that Nintendo pushes back their titles and ensures their almost flawless:
"Granted, they take their time and ensure that the game is almost FLAWLESS when it comes out, it just burns me each time they announce something and you and I both KNOW thats not the final release date. "
Quote myself FTW
what I really want to discuss is the fact that Nintendos consoles are second place to Nintendo handhelds, why they cant treat both systems equally rather than favor the other?
If they're selling out, why lower the price?
For this reason, I have yet to justify my Wii purchase. I bought Scarface when I got my Wii just because I NEEDED to have something to play on it (Wii Sports can lick my balls, that thing is a drink coaster dressed up as a lame ass system demo... it's also never been opened by me, either). I am not a Zelda fan. Never played a single title. I am also not a Metroid fan. Never played any of them. The only Nintendo character I like is Mario and even he is washed up these days (Galaxy DOES look intriguing though based solely on the game mechanics and for this reason deserves a purchase from me). I also like the Wars series and plan on getting Battalion Wars, but for real, the system collects dust under my TV.
My 360 gets more play than Britney Spears' vagina (yeah I said it). The system simply has the type of games I wanna play. The Wii just doesn't have quality releases often enough. The one thing it definitely doesn't have is DECENT games of varying genres. How many good FPSs does the system have? Metroid? K. How about action games? Zelda. K. RPGs? Super Paper Mario. K.
What the fuck happened to GOOD games. I don't need blockbusters like these titles. There is something to be said about having a deep library of good games versus a library consisting of major shit hole games and then one or two blockbusters. I like 360 'cause it I can play the Half-Life 2s and the Rainbow Six's but also play Prey, F.E.A.R., and any number of other good games. There is no medium ground with Wii titles. They are either shitty as hell or a giant "system selling" release. There need to be more quality games to fill the void in between.
Miss the jab at Sony? Beating a dead horse much? Who hasnt taken a swing at Sony lately?
