wii family

This picture was taken on Christmas Day at my house. In it, you will see my 16-year-old sister (the fat one, on the left) and my 79-year-old grandmother playing Wii Sports together.

Say what you will about the graphics and the lack of decent launch titles, but Nintendo wasn't yanking your chain when they said that the Wii can win over non-gamers of any age: it's simplistic, fun, familiar, and instantly accessible.

My 46-year-old mother also asked me for a Wii this Christmas. I wasn't able to get her one -- goddamn console shortages -- but still. We're talking about a 46-year-old mom, asking her KID for a video game system. It should be the other way around! And furthermore, my 59-year-old dad will still play Wii Bowling with my sister and I whenever we ask. And he hasn't played a video game with me since Duck Hunt when I was four.

Have you had any experiences of Nintendo's new system actually doing what it's supposed to do -- bring non-gamers together? Hit the comments.

My Wife has been staying up with me till 4am just playing Wii Sports, and Rayman. That, to me my friends, is the sexiest thing money can buy. Now she is stepping up to the plate and trying Gears, as it opened doors for her. Im pretty psyched... ive been losing alot of sleep though.

Took it to a party...bunch of girls were like "you brought a video game system?" but once I told her about the controller she was like "oh i might be interested in that"

long story short, everyone but 2 people got to play (one cause he had the leave and the other, she didnt want to i guess). and the one who questioned me turned into a poor sport, she didnt like it cause she lost.

Wii sports is def. the ticket. I had my parents and my grandma playing tennis and bowling. My grandma who doesn't know a thing about computers, is more then happy to take me on in bowling whenever I ask her. So yeah, when it comes to success stories as far as getting non-gamers to at least accept games this system is a winner.

Seriously, it's like the 3rd best thing to watch drunk chicks do.

Well the whole drunk chicks/enjoyment scale is somewhat flawed due to the various factors such as hotness, ammount of clothes, breats size, etc. So it's sometimes hard to place things in a 100% agreeable order.

My Mom out of the blue one day told me she would love to try playing the Wii. I was shocked.

But my step-sister called it the Nintendo W2 though, so the marketing isn't that great.

Yeah, and I stinking hate it! The only times I can play Zelda are late at night or strategically throughout the day (like when everyone's eating lunch).

Seriously, though. It's fun, and I didn't think it would be this fun for everyone. My dad plays, and he loves it. Good job, Nintendo. Keep 'em coming.

My dad hates next gen games. He's in his mid 50's and can't understand any EA Sports game. When I went over for Christmas, he proudly showed me his 66 game code score on NES Bases Loaded. He has a birthday in January. I'm getting him a Wii.

Nintendo Wii has star power. Over Xmas that thing has drawn crowds, and mostly of people who never play games. The kids can play it, the adults can play it, even the grandparents can play it. What I like to do is just put the control in people's hands without telling them how to play something like Tennis or even to move around the screen. Then when you see their faces when they realize they can just move the control to hit the ball, they totally can't believe it. I've never had a machine(and I've owned em all since the old 8-bit Nintendo and Sega Master System) that has drawn crowds like this or sparked interest in non gamers.

I was sceptical at first that the machine wouldn't be as succcessful or do as promised by Nintendo, but here in Auckland, New Zealand, it's a smash. Non gamers are flocking to it.

Took it to my parents house over the holiday...

Mom won in bowling with over 200 points.

Closest to her was dad with 134.

Nintendo's done what it wanted to -- brought video gaming to the masses. And these are just the launch titles!

Yup, Wii brings families together. My 80something year old grandmother beat my father and me at Wii bowling. It's okay though, I made up for it and beat her ass in baseball. It was good times.

Uhh...

Anyway, yeah. My mom's been dying for a Wii. When my brother's birthday comes around, I'm sure she'll be picking one up. She is, and I quote, "fixated" on the idea of having a Wii, because "it just looks so fun!" She's even done her homework -- we had an intelligent conversation about Twilight Princess today.

Nintendo definately delivered with the Wii and kept its promise of bringing videogames to those who havent play. On new years it brought my whole family together on a bowling tournament from wii sports... we were 12 people ranging from 13 to 55 years old playing.... needless to say we had a blast...
