Nintendo UK quiet about Super Smash Bros. European release date photo

As you all know by now, Super Smash Bros. Brawl has been delayed yet again by about a month in Japan and the USA. As far as the European release goes, we've never been given a street date but it seemed quite likely we wouldn't be seeing hide nor hair of the bloody thing until Summer. Now that there are delays in the countries that Nintendo cares about, we in Europe wonder if we will be affected at all.

Well, Nintendo UK won't tell us. In fact, when asked about how the recent delays will affect a European release, Nintendo UK would only say that "no European date has ever been announced for Smash Bros." Well gee, thanks for that, makes us feel special.

Nintendo's persisting treatment of Europe as if it were a second class citizen has almost become a self-parody, to the point where it's saying statements that make it sound like the company won't even bother releasing the game at all over here. Saying that no release date has ever been announced is as good as saying that the game simply isn't planned to ever come to Europe, and while that's clearly not the case (as far as we know), that's certainly what the tone implies.

Maybe we'll get it in time for Christmas though, eh? Christmas 2030.

[Thanks Aerox]

Didn't they make a promise a few months back to make the localization delays like a maximum of two weeks for all regions.

This is just such utter garbage, especially if the Japanese date is still Jan 31, why do I have to wait until March to get the damn game.

Caf, I think that promise might have been for Australia. It was a while ago though so I don't remember.

Nintendo, sometimes you underestimate how much people love your games.

I expect a full report as to what happened with the production of Brawl on my desk by the end of the year.

I think Nintendo doesn't care that much because they're too busy having sex with the hookers they bought with the massive amounts of money the Wii made.

As much as I loved melee, I could no longer really care about brawl, if nintendo can't even be assed to tell us which quarter the damn game may be out it, what the hell is the point of paying attention.

Not for GB, but Euro games need to be translated into Italian, French, German, and Spanish also.

That's why Europe got Animal Crossing 2 years after the US release. Even so, I can't imagine Smash Bros. has all that much text in it. That kind of localization is something that could be done before the game is even finished.

It really sucks for Australia because they aren't even physically close to Europe and predominantly speak Australia English but they have to wait as well. I think Australia should be part of the North American region, they're closer to us than they are to England :p

If only there was some way to punish nintendo. It's not as if we can boycott the games. Technically they can release it in five years and we'd still buy it. It would be good to find some way to prove that delaying games forces people to turn to piracy. That would freak them out.

sad thing is that even though Nintendo treats Europe like shit they'll still go crazy for the game when it comes out.

Zelda:TP, Metroid Prime 3, Mario Galaxy ... all delayed. Then Smash Bros. Brawl and Wii Fit. Next up, Mario Kart.

Nintendo is better off not announcing a release date unless they are damn sure it will be able to release it on time.

Here' something new.

Nintendo to have three sessions at GDC

“Wii Fit: Creating a Brand New Interface for the Home Console”
- speaker: project lead Takao Sawano

“Planning the Wii Menu: From Pre-Launch to WiiWare”
- speaker: Takashi Aoyama, team leader, Nintendo’s Network Group

“Building Characters: The Super Smash Bros. Brawl Postmortem”
- Developer Masahiro Sakurai

... I hope Nintendo won't surprise us with a Wiiware delay announcement.

@ Caffeine

Yea they did and I believe the reaction of Jim and comment posters where "I'll believe it when I see it", well you're seeing it now.

6 months after its been out in the states is my guess for a release date, Its amazing just how badly Nintendo treates the PAL market, its even more amazing how people still defend them over there in the UK.

I'm sure there is a very good reason for the delay, and I know that Sakurai-san feels bad about it, I mean, I know how I would feel in his place.

I suppose Europe just isn't American enough to get Nintendo's love. Maybe try eating more fast food and making more frivolous lawsuits?
