Does this make anyone happy?
I was a tad more surprised to hear that Metroid Prime 1-3 all were made on a modified version of UE2. The idea of a new Metroid Prime on UE3 is not as farfetched as some would have you believe.
Who doesn't want a physical Nintendo game? Morons, that's who! They're fun to collect and keep their value.
I want a physical copy... I want to be able to borrow or re sell my games..
Not only that, but most 3DS owners only have 2GB of storage (I Have a 16gb card in mine) but the average person only has the packaged-in 2gb card... NSMB will probably be a small game, but I'd still like to have the option of getting a cartridge, case and booklet, if possible.
I realize PS3 lets you switch out HDDs, but they still charge a premium for the one included. Don't even get me started on Apple and MS.
I know the Wii U will have an account-based system, but I'm still skeptical of Nintendo knowing what's going on with online stuff. For all we know, the account could only be for playing online. You'd think it would be obvious to link games to the account, too, but then again, that should have happened with the original Wii, as well.
Disclaimer: I'm brazilian, and trying to buy boxed games here is either a ripoff or an ungodly waiting for ebay goods to be poster halfway around the world.
Scaryjim: To each his own. Having the option is always great. Nintendo is surprising me to the point that I barely recognize it. I always loved the company, but the Wii(despite its online and horsepower limitations it was a VERY disruptive piece of technology) now this, they really seem to be willing to become a very flexible, avant garde company. Kudos to them.
Except Gamestop seems to be doing fine-ish selling DLC/Digital content, to the point where their upping their push to do so.. One big reason being that you can use store credit for the stuff.. yeah, doesn't make a bunch of sense when you figure you can just buy the game from the store, but if you have store credit and buy the game this way over their website you don't have to wait for shipping. Or if you just don't want to keep physical copies of games you don't need to any more and still use your store credit in the store..
@JQM78
Well I the game itself was announced a week or two ago any way, thats probably when they mentioned the retail packaged game -not a lot of reason to rehash that.
Conrad did say "Starting with New Super Mario Bros. 2, Nintendo will begin offering **its retail packaged 3DS games** digitally through the Nintendo eShop as well" however, implying NSMB2 will be.
@Sćglópur
They're not keeping their value all that well anymore, at least not with what I've seen with the 3DS. The times are finally catching up to Nintendo.
As a Nintendo fanboy, I can't condone this stupidity. I'll wait out for the system to sell for half its price (like the 3DS did) and then I'll consider buying it.
This is why I always laugh when people say they can't wait for everything to go digital...Why? Why would you want everything to go digital? So you can pay more for the same games? A LOT more? Here's a great example. Microsoft's Games on Demand service wanted $30 for Alan Wake. I went to my local game store, and bought a brand new special edition copy for $15. Half the price.
I have done that with literally every game I've wanted to buy on the service. Even though these companies are saving a TON of money by releasing these games digitally, they aren't offering ANY of those savings on to us. Nope, instead, they are asking us to pay MORE for the same exact thing. And this is why they can't wait for the digital revolution.
They will control the prices, and they won't be offering us deals like you see on Steam. We will be paying a ton more for the same games, which means we will have to buy less games. I've done the research, and there isn't a single retail game on Xbox Live or PSN that costs less than what the game costs at retail. Not a single one.
As a matter of fact, 9 out of 10 costs more, and not just a little bit more, $10 to $40 more. If you need more proof, just look at what happened with the Vita. Sony approached all the publishers and asked them to reduce the price of their digital retail games that are going to be sold on the Vita by $5. A measly $5. Almost all of them, including EA, refused.
Even though they are saving a ton more than $5 by releasing the game digitally, they won't even offer us a measly $5 savings. So, again, why are you looking forward to the digital revolution?
Can you imagine a future where you could only buy a PS3 game from SONY PSN/live/Eshop ?
I 100% agree!
They save on, printing, creating the disc, storage, packaging, shipping, exporting, importing, insurance and all the people they have to pay for doing these jobs! A $5 discount is even a joke when you think of how much they are saving by putting it up online.
no region lock would make it even easier, but better than nothing :)
