Nintendo seeks massive conversion of those who don't play games photo

The Wii is consistently sold out and even your mother owns a Nintendo DS. One would figure that Nintendo is more than happy with the profits from their devices and software. In a recent interview with MCV, Nintendo’s UK general manager David Yarnton still thinks that Nintendo has some work to do – namely with the two people who have yet to take the casual plunge.

From the interview:
We [Nintendo] really have only scratched the surface in terms of the number of potential users still out there. As long as there are still people who do not play video games, then we still have a lot of work to do.
A business always seeks out more profit, that much is certainly true, but what Nintendo wants to do is far beyond the typical realm of hardware sales. They want your grandmother, your infant brother, and alcoholic father engrossed in Wii Sports or Brain Age. Sure, Microsoft and Sony can play at the ridiculously casual market with stripped down consoles and the promise of an easy-to-learn experience, but is that opportunity actually tangible?

In my mind, Nintendo actually has the unique opportunity that Yarnton touches on. Nintendo has the ability to transcend preconceived notions of non-gamers and put themselves in a position to cater to everyone, even if it sucks for the hardcore crowd.

As great as that might sound for Nintendo I don't see it as being a major advantage for the industry. The only people not playing games are either too young to even know what games are or are too old for the games the market really lives on.

You know, i don't really care anymore.
My only next-gen console is the Wii, and even if nintendo doesn't give a crap about what I want to play, wich is understandable, there's so much good games that are going to be released in 2009 for the system (Conduit, Madworld, Muramasa, House Of The Dead, Crystal Chronicles, Sin & Punishment 2, Punch Out, and even Animal Crossing and Mushroom Men this year) that as long as they eventually release more Zelda's and Metroid's, i'm fine with it.

The old bag in red is making me nervous by holding the DS top screen to support the console as she stabs at the touch screen.

Damn laptop, hate freaking touchpads. Apologies for blank post.

What I was going to say was: Does this mean we can expect Resistance-like conversion centres sometime soon?

I just don't get why this is a bad thing. Don't we want video games to become a mainstream hobby, like movies, and literature?
