[Update: According to the more financially savvy cats over at NeoGAF, Nintendo's stock dropped before the conference began, and it actually went back up to its prior levels shortly afterwards. So, while analysts and press seem unenthusiastic, the stock part is at least safe.]
Nintendo kicked off the Tokyo Game Show last night with a 3DS-centric press conference, hoping to boost the system's reputation and curry favor with press and public. It would appear that an hour of damp announcements and a NEW PINK COLOR had the opposite effect.
Negative press soon followed the conference, which failed to bring any megaton announcements, and as a result Nintendo's stock dropped by 5%. In addition, analysts have stated that the company failed to reignite any love from the masses, who have abandoned Nintendo for mobile phone games.
"I don't think the new games will make any difference," said Ichiyoshi Investment fund manager Mitsushige Akino. "Nintendo succeeded by pulling in people who weren't gamers and their needs now are no longer being filled by Nintendo, they are happy playing games on their mobile phones."
Reuters published an article titled, "Nintendo faces end of era after 3DS flop," conveying the general sentiment that the mainstream press seems to have. It would appear that, rather than get people more invested in the 3DS, Nintendo has succeeded only in turning them away. You can say what you like about the DS originally having a slow start ... it was never this big of a mess.
Since when do masses have to be flocking to another source if one isnt selling? Does it ever cross these analysts heads that maybe people arent buying shit just because they dont want what Nintendo's offering?
Just what is Nintendo's target audience anymore? Do we know?
Nintendo, meet your new roommate - Sega.
Yeah I have to agree. This has been sited else where. I mean who the hell wants to strap something that needs batteries on a machine which is already a known power drainer.
However the good news in my eyes was that the eshop will eventually get an update. I'm really hoping that nintendo is, gradually, finally joining the 21st century in regards to software updates.

Monster Hunter 4
Monster. Hunter. 4.

The Beta for Super Monster Hunter 4 Arcade Edition
MONSTER HUNTER FRIKKIN 4!!!!!
In. Japan.
WHAT ELSE DO INVESTORS WANT????????
But the conference was horrible though, and the nub is just stupid.
Also, just because Nintendo isn't going to be on TGS it doesn't mean that 3rd parties won't announce games for 3DS,you know...
The fact is that Nintendo misread their sales as fans sales and not an occasional sale. Now those people are going after a new shining thing and Nintendo is left with their loyal fans, who are not that much by the number of Gamecubes sold.
...did no one notice this was a Japan-centric event? They announced Monster Hunter 4 and New Love Plus, two of the biggest franchises in portable gaming there right now, and they didn't talk about the nub, like, at all there.
I would think that the drop in stock was because shareholders want Nintendo to announce new hardware and or going to mobile phones, which they didn't do.
...but I guess some people will chip on that tombstone 'till it gets used.
that right there shows why investors dont know SHIT
they scored 2 monster hunter games
2 EXCLUSIVE monster hunter games.
Sales will skyrocket. That conference was damn good
They honestly should have just called it Monster hunter Conference since that ate the whole damn show.
One game? ...... I suspect they want more than one game.
If they announced Monster hunter 4 was releasing TODAY it would probably be different but its at this point only a promise. You know at some point MH4 will come out and then the system will sell like hotcakes.... The 3DS is in what appears to be a perpetual holding pattern for a game to actually BE RELEASED that will make a difference.

You mean like the PS2's first year?
I seriously wish she'd just buy me clothes like all my other buddies' girlfriends do...
Seriously, if stocks go down, who's gaming purchase decisions its gonna affect?
If you are so delusional as to think the Wii sold like gangbusters because of core gamers, then there is no helping you. They've moved on, and that #1 console sales spot isn't going to happen again with Wii-U. It's back to gamecube numbers for Big N.
@Pentagram - Seriously? Monster hunter? If we're talking global and not just the tiny little market of Japan, then MH is not the kind of series that can save an entire console generation. Metal Gear can do it, Halo can do it, and maybe Uncharted can do it. But MH? lol.. wow.
Just get another Pokemon out the door, and put it on 3DS.
INSTANT POPULARITY.
and it's one that's getting real old.
