With the announcement of the extra 3DS nub add-on, Nintendo has worked out a way to patch consoles. We thought you could only do that with software, but once again, the game industry's disruptive force has shown us something we never thought possible.
Just when you thought the patch culture that's grown up around this generation's games couldn't get sillier, it's now happening with hardware, and gamers get to pay for the privilege! It seems that rushing out a product to meet deadlines and then fixing it later isn't just for games, and since Nintendo can charge for this update, it's even more awesome.
So congratulations again to Nintendo, for its amazing innovations in the field of handheld gaming and its contributions toward making this industry a sloppier, lazier place ... because it really needed help in that department!
Oh ... and that nub looks fucking retarded.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

It does, that's why it's probably a stop-gap measure.

Would be interesting if this generation of handhelds if Sony and Nintendo switched places. Still unlikely but maybe.
They are the same size and shape, the picture is just skewed.
Had to be said. Step your game up guys, this should have been the first comment.
Can't wait to play Donkey Kong on the PS Vita! :D
Limited use specialty controllers are really nothing new and have never been a big deal. If you hate it that much, just find a way to go on with your life having never played 3ds Monster Hunter.
and if you want to play the game the accessory is for, you'll probably get it for free or the game might cost 5 or 10 bucks more than "usual". so what's the big deal?
Well done, I can definitely see Wii U working for you guys.
Leave 'em out! I like the honest tone. Anyway, 64DD/Expansion pack or PS2 HDD - console manufacturers love patching consoles!
The negetive attitude surrounding this reveal is a great example of what's really wrong with Nintendo: that there are snipers aimed at their heads from all angles constantly.
If you don't like them, fine. but your bitching and "funny" articles won't fix anything. In fact, you might just end up ruining it for the rest of us with one of those pop shots.
by the way, any spelling errors are a result of lack of sleep.

MONSTER HUNTER WOOOOO
Seriously, though, I doubt this is mandatory. Capcom often does special stuff for Monster Hunter games. They released a PSP in Japan with a special analog stick designed for long bouts of playing MH. And, having played MH on the PSP a little, I can see how this would make it much more playable. Seriously, I was basically throwing up gang signs just trying to change the camera.
And as far as the Motion Plus argument goes, how many games have required it? Nintendo didn't require it for Kirby's Epic Yarn or DK Country, right? How about Monado, Xenoblade or The Last Story? I am actually asking about those.
Then again, Nintendo's been weird recently, so who knows.
1st of all the 3ds hasn't even been out all that long (not even a year?) so they couldn't revise it just yet. 2nd of all, its still technically a DS which has also gone through a ton of revisions and only recently added only ONE nub with the 3DS, something the psp had since when, 2005?

...though this one has a bigger chance of becoming mandatory.
Any word on if it adds battery life? That would make it infinitivelly more acceptable.
