Within a year, it will be obvious that the government and bankers sold everyone down the river, and your dollars will be near worthless. It's happened in 3rd world countries hundreds of times, and now its coming to the western 1st world.
Enjoy complaining about not being able to afford food instead of bitching of video game products!
Nintendo will be fine. They got greedy and it hurt initial sales of the 3DS, despite this those initial sales have not been terrible. A bigger problem for Nintendo has been the lack of games. That's the curse of every new console, yet with every new console the fanboys forget that and start their irrational, crazed chants that the lack of games will kill the console.
A few people with a memory that goes back further than an hour try and remind everybody that the DS started out with a miserable game library which didn't improve for nearly two years.
(Spoiler alert: The DS went on to be one of the most successful consoles, portable or otherwise, of all time.)
This isn't nearly the kick to the teeth that Sony got with the PS3 launch, yet how many of the people suggesting Nintendo will be out of the console race soon believe the same of Sony?
We're not seeing a failing console here, we're seeing the inevitable result of an unsustainable cash grab. Nintendo sacrificed some DS momentum and 3DS hype in pricing the 3DS so high but unless the tail wags the dog and developers are somehow spooked from 3DS development, by the end of the year enough games will be on the market to make the 3DS worth its $170 price tag and sales will continue to grow from there.
Oh, hey, we're also looking at the end of the console due to see its replacement arrive next year. How many consoles can you name that maintain strong sales in the face of a next gen replacement? Console developers always see a drop in profits before a major hardware release, that's the nature of the cycle.
Just because the weatherman says it's going to rain, doesn't mean it will.
The forecasts can be higher than expected and in this case it's probably following a weak showing at the consumer level. Just because it's not doing terrible doesn't mean that Best Buy has a massive order coming in of these systems.
If anything, it's stock prices (share holder confidence) and consumer shifts that are driving this price cut and driving this profit loss.
At the end of the day a price cut signifies weak sales. Nobody drops price on awesome selling hardware.
They released a new handheld with very few games, basically gave up on the Wii,and the cost of developing a new console ain't cheap.
Of course they are going to lose money..
I haven't been a fan of Nintendo since The 1980's, and even I can see that with the price drop of 3DS,upcoming popular Fall releases, and Wii-U nearing completion. This "should" turn around pretty quickly.
"Well" As long as their core audience doesn't finally tire of all the first party re-hashed 80's titles, and they attract 3rd party Dev's, anyway.
@ Monodi
*hugs* We had something beautiful going there
c'mon nintendo, ocarina of timme 3d alone wont do the trick.
c'mon nintendo, ocarina of timme 3d alone wont do the trick.
We're already seeing developers being spooked from 3DS development. Several big 3DS titles have already been cancelled.
Assassin's Creed: cancelled.
Mega Man Legends 3: cancelled.
Actually, I don't know why, still to get a 3DS. Even though it costs as much as a Dsi XL, there still aren't any fucking games.
Who would have thought it.
Stfu 12 year old fanboy. You're console took a hit. It happens. Stop crying about it.
Seriously, please stop, you are borderlining on pathetic.
