Nintendo pollutes more than other console manufacturers photo

According to data from Greenpeace International, Nintendo is now the biggest environmental offender out of the three big console manufacturers. Microsoft has placed second, while Greenpeace’s toxics campaigner Iza Kruszewska has labeled Sony as “clearly leading the way” in eliminating emissions from its manufacturing.

It’s a hardware race that the other big two are finally winning. In an interview with Edge Kruszewska said that Nintendo “are not engaging” the problem in the slightest. He added that the company rarely discloses plans to clean up their act and refuses to take back old consoles to dispose of them properly. The most striking condemnation is Nintendo’s response to the accusation of pollution. Apparently the company’s line of defense is that “their product don’t cause waste because ... people hang onto them!”

I’m not much of an environmental nut, but I’d like to live in a world that doesn’t look like Fallout 3. Sure, nuclear bombs are quicker in delivery than climate change, but it doesn’t change the fact that I like trees ... and grass. Plus, I’m not a big fan of ghouls. Something tells me they smell bad.

I can't imagine all those garbage Wii and DS titles (that will end up in the trash bin anyway) will help at all.

Nintendo is a family company indeed, a family company for COCKROACHES!

How much is the difference between the three is what I would like to know.

Good thing that Greenpeace does NOT have a forum/blogging section as that place would be plastered with butt hurt fanboys crying and swearing as .8/10 is pretty shitty score.

Doesn't the Wii save like a $100 in energy usage a year over the PS3, and 360? So I guess it all works out equal in the end don't it?

Hey, what about all the RROD 360's that could be stacked in a landfill to make a new Wonder of the World... ba-dum-bum-CHING!

They could use them in 3rd world countries as "bricks" to build shelters. I heard they give off lots of heat!

This has definitely been posted before, and it will continue to be posted, since Greenpeace does this every 3-4 months.

"Kruszewska goes on to explain that Nintendo are barely disclosing any of their practices, and as such, receive no points for eleven of the fifteen categories."

The only reason Nintendo scores poorly is because they don't want to tell Greenpeace what they are doing. They don't tell anyone what they are doing.

"Could then, we ask, these results be a little inaccurate if their practices are undisclosed? “Well yes, Nintendo may be doing things that we’re not hearing about, that’s always a possibility."

Nintendo won't talk to the whack-jobs at Greenpeace, so Greenpeace automatically gives them an "F"?

"F" off, Greenpeace. Don't you have another nuclear plant against which you can prove that you're just a group of enviro-terrorists?

It's obvious why they're the biggest "polluter." Instead of doing rechargeable batteries Nintendo decided to go with AA's. I myself use rechargeable AA's but it's not like everybody will.

The E-waste category is bullshit. Recycling plastics is a waste of time. The space it saves in landfills just gets turned into regular environmental pollution.

Jesus Christ, just take a look at their practices and methods for collecting data, realize they're bullshit, and stop reporting this crap. These reports have about as much credibility as a middle school science project.

Fuck Greenpeace and fuck PETA. The pro-environmental movement can do just fine without these assholes spreading their lies and propaganda.

Greenpeace is just being a whiny bitch and smearing Nintendo's name because they wouldn't answer their questions. There was a recent C-blog talking about how Nintendo chose not to disclose their recycling policies/emission report to greenpeace, so in turn they gave Nintendo a 0 in 11 of 15 categories.

So Greenpeace = Crazy Bitch
Nintendo = Ex-boyfriend

Greenpeace is basically going on Myspace and telling everyone Nintendo's penis is small.

its not bullshit and nintendo is #1 mainly due to the screens used in the gb, gba and ds, not the wii. and fuck you if you want your kids breathing in the by-product of disposing e-waste. you say fuck the environment around me and you'll crawl away unable to throw anything ever again Obrien or anyone else for that matter so,FUCK YOU, YOU IGNORANT JACKNUT.

Stop being an internet tough guy (though feel free to follow through on beating up people who say "fuck the environment" in real life).

Perhaps Nintendo really is at the number one spot--I don't know. Either way, this study and its methods of data collection are beyond a joke and are an insult to those who conduct actual research in accordance with a logical methodology before publishing their findings. Greenpeace ranks among the largest attention whores I can think of and it frustrates me to no end that a worthy cause as saving the environment has to be associated with their likes.

this isn't so much about the non-recylable nature or w/e of Nintendo stuff and a Wall-E like garbage future, the problem is that mercury and other highly toxic heavy metals are contained within the hardware.

Well, yeah, they might be a high polluter. But to their credit, Nintendo also spends more money on research and development than the U.S. government as a whole. So, while R&D pollutes, they're working on solutions to real world problems. There are many other variables to look at than this one.

I don't care for the validity of this statement. I would like the tabloid to have picked this story up. Would be a nice kick in the balls for Nintendo seeing as a lot of people who own wii fit read them. They could have a "board burning" haha.

I still don't get it... its not like people throw away their Nintendo games every day right? Most people who have/had a Nintendo product and it stops working, they keep the hardware or sell it.

Seriously, if there were lots of Nintendo things on my local garbage dump I would be taking away tons to reuse their contects and become rich.
