Nintendo Points not exactly multiplatform photo

Imagine this. You walk into a store and pick up one of Nintendo’s recently announced Nintendo Points cards. You come home, toss the number into your Wii and buy Mega Man 9. After a few hours you realize that you need to rush to the airport to fly to Turkey. You pick up your DSi and try to purchase a game with the same card (with points still on it) you just used for your Wii. After trying to purchase, you’ll find that your card doesn’t work. It is now bound to your Wii.

Go figure, right? According to a Siliconera report, Nintendo Points cards can only be used for one console solely. Even if there are points left on the card, consumers won’t be able to apply them to the upcoming DSi store.

Leave it to Nintendo to unify a name, but forget to unify the system. There has to be a screw loose somewhere at Nintendo, I’m sure of it. What do you guys think? Ready to juggle some cards whenever the DSi hits?

You know what this kind of thing doesn't even surprise me any more. I haven't touched my Wii since I don't know when and the last time I touched my DS was when I was in America and was actually able to pick up some decent games.

Nintendo needs a massive dose of common sense to counteract the OD of 'wtf' that they've evidently taken.

Like Sony beforehand, their arrogance over their current domination of the video game market are leading them towards to disaster.

@ CALkulon

He has 4. The GC, the GC Lite, the GCi and the Wii.

*sighs contentedly* It's been a good few years since I've mustered the courage to make an idiotic 'Wii sounds like wee, which in turn is a childish term for urine' joke.

This is a non-issue for me. I only ever buy points with my credit card online.

This isn't a money grab tactic, it isn't possible to track points with no system to track them.

They really should do something to fix that though. It's fucking 2008.

The good news is that the points can go straight to your SD card without going to your channels first.

All of this seemed so hopeful and promising and now they look like they've sputtered to the finish. Seriously, what are they drinking over there?

It's not a huge deal, but if they have unified the point to be called "Nintendo" points, why do I have to designate them to one or the other?

Sad to say, but I'd almost rather see microsoft stay in the console business than buy a DSi.

Well, the earlier news or region locking already removed any desire I had to even consider a DSi, so this really doesn't affect me.

Still though, it's pretty stupid...

Hmm, aparently Nintendo likes our money.

Instead of offering tons of little bits to nikel and dime us they'll cheat us out of the bits of points we can't use. Laughing and mocking us as they go take it and buy a coffee at your expense while you sit and stare at your usless left over points that were once useable currency in wich you could buy a snack with yourself.

Oh they are evil monsters.

They better make some way to manage the points and transfer them because this is just stupid crap.
Though its obvious that they are trying to do this on purpose to get small extra bits of cash out of it.

Nintendo could do better, but I don't think they want to.

Until ofcourse some internet nuts all complain at them till their ears bleed. Then they'll finally let your transfer your points.
Ofcourse like the SD card solution it will only be when you have no points in one but some in the other and you've already spent everything you could in the machine with the points. Then it'll prompt you just once if you'd wanna transfer to your DSi, though you'll need to connect your DSi in the next thirty seconds before it cancels out and your stuck with the extra points again.
Fixed but not fixed. That way no one can complain... for the next three weeks....

Really, Nintendo must be doing drugs cause they suddenly forgot how the hell to do things.
Then again Nintendo was always scared of the internet for a reason.

Now we know.
I think I learned something o-o

I though that once you entered the code in your Wii shop account, all the points of the card where transfered on it at once? Then, how can you still have points on your card? Is there something I'm missing? Did they made card from which you can only take SOME points?
jpw21683's Avatar
jpw21683 at 10/07/2008 22:07
@Nameless Monster: No, you still have to transfer ALL the points from a card at once. But they'll only be available on the console/system you transferred them with.

FAIL.

I wish they had cards that you could simply recharge. Add as much or as little as you want based on $1 increments.

I wonder if you can use one of those debit cards on the Wii and then switch to regular ol' Nintendo Points cards for the DSi.

For some reason this not only makes me want to be angry with ninetendo if they dont allow you to use points cross platform, but make me think about MS as well with me not being able to use videos i purchase from the zune marketplace and play them FROM MY ZUNE ON MY XBOX..... heck i'll go one step further and ask why can't videos downloaded on xbox be downloaded to my zune, heck i believe that even the ps3 allows you to do that with your psp....... i am ticked off now....
