Nintendo patents Mii Contest Channel, Soma Bringer, and more photo

It appears Nintendo's legal hounds have been busy, recently registering six trademarks with the Japanese patent office. Among the trademarks are "Mii Audition," "Mii Contest Channel," "Nintendo Magic," "Wii Handle," "Wii Body Controller," and "Soma Bringer."

The "Mii Contest Channel" is likely the already announced "Check Mii Out" channel, and one can only guess that "Wii Body Controller," is related to (or is) the Wii Balance Board that ships with Wii Fit. Nintendo Magic (working title) is a Nintendo DS "magic simulation" title that was released last year in Japan (as Magic Taizen), and will likely see a US release this Fall.

As far as "Mii Audition," "Wii Handle," and "Soma Bringer" are concerned, your guess is as good as ours. But here's some good news for Pikmin fans: Nintendo also renewed the trademark protection on "Pikmin," possibly suggesting a new Pikmin title, or at least the inclusion of Miyamoto's work-a-holic little aliens in future games.

No, I would say that Pikmin costume is fair use, but that doesn't make it right.

Soma? Nintendo is going to start distributing drugs to help you forget how the government is controlling you now? Or is a certain famous book getting a video game remake from Nintendo?

Maybe Soma Bringer is actually how the Japanese spell Summa. It's an entire channel devoted to bringing Robert Summa over to the Wii!

@Evil Cheese

You never know, but it seems pretty unlikely to me...

On that note, I think I'll go take a soma holiday. ;)

@cowzilla,

So Wii owners are going to get Lost episode downloads?

Also, Pikmin better make some kind of cameo in SSBB. And another game.

As long as none of those things are the "surprise" at the end of the month, I'm perfectly fine with this news.

Soma Bringer? Win, I could use a pill-shaped escape from the misery that is life. The Huxley Estate wants words with you though Nintendo.

Mxyzptlk stole half of my comment, damn him!. I think a half-dozen tabs of Soma might be the only thing to help me deal with the lack of release date for the PAL version of Smash Bros.

Does the Soma Bringer bring Soma Cruz's to the Wii? But that's a Konami character!
