Nintendo: Our third party games sell best photo

Nintendo is often seen as the champion of first parties, but is criticized for not doing enough to support third party developers. Nintendo, however, has responded to criticism that third parties don't do well on the Wii by ... well ... by saying that's wrong, basically.

"There is an assumption out there that just simply isn't true... We're setting the record straight. This is fact," stated  Nintendo of America's Vice President of Corporate Affairs, Denise Kaigler, while pointing at a colorful chart. "We are selling third-party games and they are doing very well, and better than our competitors."

It is assumed that Wii software does not sell as well as Xbox 360 or PS3 games, but if Nintendo's chart is to be believed, the Wii dominates in software sales just as much as hardware sales. This kind of triumph can only be attributed to sales of the critically acclaimed Bug Island.

What on earth? Where are Nintendo getting their numbers from, maybe they're thinking of Wii specific third party games like No More Heroes, but in all seriousness, would anyone beleive that Guitar Hero 3 (or any other multi-platform game (Raving Rabbids doesn't count)) has sold more on the Wii than any other console. I highly doubt it.

Of course they sell, with its large install base and soccer moms who will buy their precious brats anything their hearts desire shovelware or not.

Well, nintendo has brute force advantage over the other consoles. There are just so many consoles out there, still selling like hot cakes. Even with a low attach rate, they could be selling more.

Too bad only 1 out of 20 third party games even make it to the Wii.

This doesn't make much sense. My little brain needs to see the charts if I am going to ever understand... =(

"Doesn't support 3rd parties" is just the mantra of publishers when their half-assed junk falls on it's face on the Wii, just like "Piracy" and PC games.

The chart includes 1st and 3rd party software so it's useless and a baseless assertion by Nintendo.

I like how the chart includes both 1st party and 3rd party games. I thought we were just talking about solely 3rd party titles and how well they sell.

That sure doesn't skew the numbers at all.

That very well may be the worst chart ever.
You hand that in to your 4th grade teacher and that's a C- for you!

@Tet

Yeah, why would 3rd party publishers know anything or have the right to criticize 3rd party sales. They got some nerve!

Sometimes I just want to slap Nintendo. Right in the face. I don't care if they've stopped talking to take a drink of soda, that just makes it even more painful and surprising. I'd slap them so hard that it knocked the cup of soda out of their hands and onto the floor. And theyd sit there surprised, half covered in soda not knowing what to say.

It pains me to say it. I fought on their side in the 16bit wars, but they need to fucking wake up.

I didn't want to post the graph because I didn't want to embarrass whoever designed it.

I think that graph was stolen from my my fifth grade science fair project. They just changed the headings.

OK time for a change of tact. Lets just say the majority of third-party Wii titles sell well, but they still suck. Great news for your shareholders, who are probably wiping their asses with $1000 bills they had minted themselves because they're that god damn rich now, but bad for us.

Ummm... GH3 sold best on PS2. Wii and 360 both sold about 3 mil and PS3 1.5 mil. Not really sure what point you are trying to make.

Don't WiiWare and Virtual Console titles also count as 3rd Party sales?

Sales, divided by how many publishers? Is it still fair to call this "fact" if you're heralding 5 million copies of Sonic and Mario at the Olympics as a successful 3rd party product?
