Despite beliefs by some old school Nintendo fans that the Big N has abandoned them, the company is adamant that it has never forgotten the "core" gamers, and never will. Nintendo has promised that some of its more popular franchises are currently in development, but that it could be some time before we see any of them.
"We have never neglected our core gamers," stated a Nintendo rep. "We still have developers working on popular core gaming franchises, but we need approximately two to three years to complete these games."
So far, apart from the already mentioned Pikmin 3, we don't know what these "core" titles will be. A safe bet would be a Zelda of some kind, and of course the rumors of some sort of Kid Icarus revival continue unabated. Whatever they are, these games are not expected to arrive until at least late 2009, so the hardcore set have quite a wait.
Care for some magazines to flick through in the meantime?

Thanks but how about some new ones! Bring back Project Hammer!
Nintendo came claim all that want that they're not neglecting me, but I'm sure as hell about to neglect them.
They're running out of new ideas.
I bet we'll see 15 Mario games and none will be a true successor to Super Mario Galaxy
They don't care that we don't know what they're planning.
if I don't see or hear a confirmation of a F-Zero soon, Wii's pointless.
give us new franchises or up the playing field for the current ones.
don't get me started I could rant all fuggin' day about ninty. they are really diggin holes deeper and deeper. And when I think about it. I shoulda saw this coming way before I bought the system.
You've really got to prove yourself ninty to keep me for Wii2.
where are original IPs, and rpgs. I doubt someone will complain about a New Super Mario Bros 3.
Just do them right. damn it. Now I've got a hemorrhoid. thanks.
The first party support for the Wii has been typical. We've got Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Smash Bros, and Mario Kart sequels, a couple Mario themed sports games... Look at the N64 and Gamecube first party releases and you'll see pretty much the same thing. It's not like past consoles have had more than one or two sequels to the main franchises.
I guess I missed the part where Nintendo said that more people will buy Cooking Mama and Ninja Reflex than a Mario Galaxy sequel so they've given up on their original fanbase.
Some new IPs/revivals are always welcome though.
but im going trough this thnxs to my xb360.....
The day after Nintendo's E3 conference I went and bought a 360.
eternalplayer2345: Warioland looks good but since it doesn't support wide screen formats (another sign of nintendo's plain laziness) I'll probably pass on it. Petty perhaps but I'm just sick of their half baked bullshit.
Microsoft of all foreign companies can nab JRPGS, Resident Evil 5, Grand Theft Auto IV, et cetera, yet the market leader Nintendo can't even nab GTA IV.
For goodness sakes, the man in last place, Sony, has far better 3rd party and 1st party support than the Wii does.
That's just sad.
How is that Sony, can make new IPs (Resistance, Uncharted, MAG) but Nintendo can't do anything beyond Wii Sports and Wii Fit?
I think that Nintendo knows just how far behind the Wii is in power to the PS3/360 and so they won't make FPS/TPS, Driving Sims or any games that can even try to compete with what Microsoft and Sony have so not to make their weak-ass hardware apparent.
The Wii is a Gamecube 1.5 with a magic wand. No amount of motion controls will make for a deficit of technological prowess.
They even make it easy for you to do the switch: the Wii is on such high demand, you can get most of your money back from your purchase.
While I might have been inclined to play the odd N game every now and then, I have absolutely no interest at all in what they have churned out this generation, on either console.
As some have said, that E3 was the last straw, I agree.
I didn't like Nintendo's press conference. Cammy is frankly scary, and WiiMusic looks like shit. That being said, they are still working on new Zelda, Mario, and even Pikmin games, Miyamoto said it himself during E3. So while I don't like the quality of some games that they're churning out right now, I realize that actually making a quality game takes time, and understand if they don't have anything concrete to show us at this moment.
This also shows us that we can't rely on first-party titles all the time. While we're waiting for new installments of Mario or Zelda, third-party companies have the potential to release their games now while there's no competition from the core Nintendo franchises. An opportunity that many of them don't take seriously. If the Wii had more third-party support, the first-party titles would simply be icing on the cake, but since they've come to be the only thing we expect from the Wii, we demand more out of them when they're released.
Nintendo is far from perfect, obviously, but I'm not ready to sell my Wii yet. If the quality of those core titles starts dropping though, then I'll jump off the bandwagon. For now though, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.
There's always the 360 and my DS to keep me entertained until then.
I used to hate it when people said this, but I sold my Wii last weekend. There were a lot of reasons (mainly decreased time / interest in gaming) but if there had been even one awesome-looking franchise title or (gasp!) new IP on the horizon, it would've been a much tougher decision. The Conduit, Wario, and de Blob all look neat, but gamers are craving a title of Smash Bros., Zelda, or Mario magnitude. Maybe with this 2-3 year dev cycle they're talking about, we're still only seeing the output Nintendo would've offered if the Wii hadn't sold like hotcakes.
I maybe crazy, but how about you leave those "popular gaming franchises" while they're going downhill and make something...well, I don't know...new?
I'm tired of seeing old games with gimmicky Wii controls. I'd like to see something fresh. Something that was built from the ground up with Wii in mind.
I'm tired of Mario Kart and I'm tired of fucking Zelda.
If not that then please give me another 2D Metroid game for my DS.
Also, fuck Animal Crossing.
Captain Rainbow.
GOTY!
What's the problem?
Powerglove 2.0 is win.
You can't tell me that them releasing so many big titles wasn't their plan, you release "hardcore" content first and once you're established, you experiment, that's why they don't have shit to show right now, they released all their big ones to sucker GC owners into buying the Wii, now that the market group they actually wanted is established and BIGGER than their old group, they can do as they please.
Even a Kid Icarus would make me happy at this point, just something.
And I am still a huge fan of their old stuff (my office has Mario shit everywhere), like SNES. I look at Nintendo the same way I look at MTV or Star Wars - it kicked ass at first because it was raw and real, but over time it just got all used up and then sold out.
Now I'm just indifferent to it. I won't sell my Wii because I bought a shitload of virtual console games, but I haven't bought a disk game since Baroque, and I really wasn't happy with that. I've traded most of my Wii games on Goozex, which has allowed me to catch up on all the good PS3 games I missed out on as a late adopter.
And when that day comes, i shall allow a Wii to sit next to my 360.
Core gamers are not obsessed with big name franchises, we just want more games that are challenging, deep and fun.
It goes directly to their heads.
The games we want are coming out but they're also making games targeted at other gamers.
