I've felt a little funny in my pants ever since we heard the first details on the DS Monolith and Nintendo collaboration Soma Bringer. We knew to expect something good after Nintendo pulled Monolith under its wing as a second party, and this new video shows that we were right.
The fine folks at Siliconera link us to a video (Japanese) that breaks down the combat system in Soma Bringer. We knew that the game supported co-op play via Wi-Fi, and that attacks are assigned to buttons, but seeing it all in action really hits home. Hurry up with this game, and hurry up with a US release date!
Finally getting to take a peek, we now get to see that a huge range of weapons are available to the player, including big-assed swords and a bazooka. It seems that players can "break" an enemy, leaving him vulnerable for a beat down. Best of all, this is a stellar-looking DS title, with vibrant backgrounds and very fluid animations.
If you're as hot an bothered as I am about this title, you may want to poke around the fairly English-friendly Japanese Web page for Soma Bringer. Keen ears will notice the musical score by game music superstar Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Xenogears), and the most hardcore would've already pre-ordered the import soundtrack.
Is Soma Bringer on your radar? Where my JRPG peeps at?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Am I the only one who uses the word welt as a euphemism for a dick?
very spiffy looking!
Now that I've seen it in action I very much DO WANT
Co-op? Get out of town, that looked sweet. I guess that's what happens when you have Nintendo's help. Also makes me think that a simpler DS version of WoW could happen.
Poor big daddy.
