Nintendo has recently revealed that it's discussing the possibility of creating an old-school top-down Legend of Zelda for the 3DS. Using A Link to the Past as an example, Shigeru Miyamoto is named among those who want to exploit the sense of depth that older Zelda games used.
"Well actually, even Mr. Miyamoto himself has been talking recently about going back to the 2D Zelda games," said series producer Eiji Aonuma. "In particular the ones that were designed with multiple levels to the world like A Link to the Past, and taking those 2D graphics and recreating them in 3D so that you could get a sense for the depth of those worlds.
"That’s something that might be interesting to do, so I would say there might be a possibility of something like that in the future."
Only a war criminal could dislike A Link to the Past, so the idea of having an all-new game in that vein is like a mini-Christmas in my brain. Yes Nintendo, please do this. Do it a thousand times.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
If it's Zelda, I will buy it. Hell, if it's first party Nintendo I will buy it.
He's probably in his office in Japan with a troll face as he watches us get hyped from things that may possibly happen.
AONUMA!!!
They absolutely are evolving the franchises. Galaxy 2 is up there with my favorite games of this generation. I don't dispute that those two baskets I mentioned are the two best IPs in the history of gaming. They absolutely are. I just feel like they're not enough to support a console anymore.
So... Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks again?
Are the two baskets for new and old games or for Zelda and Mario? Is there a basket for Metroid? And does the Prime series get its own basket? I just need to know how many baskets we're dealing with here.
Dude, I don't know. I didn't think it through that far. Like I said, just a random thought. I was talking about Mario and Zelda but I'm sure you can name a dozen more and call your point proven and I probably wouldn't argue. It's not something I'm losing sleep over. I just considered those two IPs the console-sellers but if you bought a Wii or a 3DS for another reason, there ya go.

When he says "lights" I want you to shout "baskets" over it as loud as you can, and you'll have your answer.
But please,no one make Operation Pastfall or anything like that,we dont have to make an Operation everytime Aonuma hints at something.
I think most people will agree that Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks, which indeed were good games, didn't hold the same standard as Link to the Past and Link's Awakening.
However, a remake of Link to the Past, complete with new dungeons to accommodate for OoT-style gameplay would be fantastic!
That is my favourite game of ALL TIME. DO IT.
=_= This is a bad idea
Actually ..... I know they won't because they would rather piecemeal it to us.... but how about all the Zelda games from NES,SNES & GB/A on one cart. That I would buy the hell out of.
I know we already had Four Swords, but clearly the best game in the series needs to be followed up.
