Nintendo makes Super Mario 25th anniversary logo photo

Nintendo has registered a special commemorative logo to celebrate the 25th anniversary of iconic platform hero Mario. Quite what Nintendo is planning to use the logo for remains to be seen, but it's fair to assume that upcoming Mario titles will get it slapped on the box.

There aren't that many games coming out to celebrate Mario's special year, however. We have a new Mario vs. Donkey Kong, and Japan's getting a Super Mario All-Stars Wii release, but I can't think of much else. Maybe there's something hidden up Nintendo's sleeve to see the year out with a bang.

Super Mario Bros. was released in 1985, a year after I was born. Crazy to think that videogames are older than many of the people reading this right now!

Ehh....it's looking kinda top-heavy, doesn't it? Mario's at the top of the logo, but there's this gaping hole in the middle. Perhaps they'll put something in that hollow part? Maybe a game title? Cover art?

Wasn't this the 20th anniversary logo too?

Thats fairly similar to the 20th anniversary logo on the back of the Famicom edition GBA micros that were sold in '05.

Reprints could also get this logo slapped on it...or at least get a sticker for it.

Well, shit, I was born in 1991. How old does that make you all feel?

It's not really "the 25th anniversary of iconic platform hero Mario"... just of Super Mario Bros. Mario himself has been around since 1981.

That is cool. I was like 7 when mario came out, and I still have this little handheld mario game called "game and watch, it came out around 85, it unfolds into a two sided black/white screen where mario sends pies/pizza to luigi on a convertor belt to the other screen to load on a truck. I wonder if it is worth anything now?

I'm sure there will be tons of stuff branded with this. For Club Nintendo members. In Japan.

And on that day Donkey Kong will be drinking alone in a bar as a black and white TV shows a feature of the greatest moments of Mario's history. No one will even send him a card.
