Nintendo Japan's Virtual Console page hints at more consoles photo

If you're anything like us, you sometimes pop over to Nintendo Japan's Web page to see what you're missing. Those that have lately will tell you that the newly remodeled Virtual Console page is a slick, Flash-based affair. A click on any of the 6 buttons takes you to a list of VC games from that system. It's pretty nice, and it makes the US VC site look... blah.

Those with sharp eyes will notice two placeholders which may point to two more consoles to be supported by the Japanese VC in the future.

We're sure that one of them is the MSX, but what will the other be? Japan has a massive console history to draw on, so it could be anything. Could it be the Dreamcast? Should we get creative and say something like the WonderSwan? I'd die if it was the Sega Saturn. I'd laugh if it was the Apple Pippin.

What do you think the last one might be?

It could be a large compilation of Game Boy Games(Various systems for original to Advanced).

I wouldn't expect anything unless I saw "Now printing" stickers in the blank slots.

and I don't think that the wii is powerful enough to emulate the dreamcast(since VC uses emulators)
also storage capacity

It'll be new support for the Phillips CD-i and and Panasonic 3DO, you heard it here first! We'll finally be able to complete our Zelda and Mario collections...

It will either be the gameboy or sega master system, the wii cant handle dreamcast emulation i bet! Saturn maybe, but the games would be too big for the system to hold.

not enough memory on the console for dreamcast or saturn... youve only got like 200 mb for games
I could see gameboy stuff easily.

i'd say Game Boy games would be the most logical choice. Though i'd love it to be the Dreamcast, though i don't see that happening due to storage issues.

There was a rumour ages ago that Commodore 64 games would be supported on VC.

I really hope it turns out to be C64 but I think Gameboy titles is far more likely.

Maybe the Sega CD?

I don't think they're going to go older than NES like [b}ColecoVision[/b] or something like that. You get a smaller and smaller fanbase the further back you go. I liked Miner 2049er, so I would play that again, but I doubt anyone seeing it for the first time would be inclined to spend money on it.

Dreamcast? Where do you store games that big? On Nintendo's crappy little flashcards?

I'm hoping for SEGA MASTER SYSTEM myself.

There's no way it'll be Dreamcast. The Neo-Geo games alone take up huge memory in the Wii.

I'm thinking all of you are wrong and this doesn't mean anything. Call me pessimistic, but exactly how do you expect a simple software update is going to add support for a whole new console out of nowhere?

Game boy with Metroid 2, Mario Land, and Mother 2

Saturn has trouble emulating on computer, but if they could figure it out a lot of dudes would be overjoyed with some of the saturn game going prices.

Master system, a console very few people over here own, would be a welcome addition too.

If it was Sega CD, it'd just be filed under Genesis like Turbo CD is.

LOL 3DO/Jaguar.

Spoilers: It's Virtual Boy.

Neonie's idea FTW. Also, I agree with metroid, there needs to be a hard drive soon, or I'm just going to stop buying games for lack of space.

its the gameboy...if not then its stupid that they are getting other consoles when they have an easily emulated back log like the gameboy...plus...no negotiations on pricing

SMS makes the most sense. Think about it. It runs on similar hardware to Genesis and has a decent library of games.

Some pretty good games too, like Phantasy Star, Wonderboy in Monsterland, Alex Kidd in Miracle World. Golvellius: Valley of Doom, Miracle Warriors: Seal of the Dark Lord. Y's: The Vanished Omens. Reggie Jackson Baseball. Shinobi. Better versions of Double Dragon and Rampage than NES.
