It's never a bad time to interject the failure fanfare from The Price is Right (above), and now it seems especially fitting.

A few days ago Chad told us of rumors that a new Nintendo DS model could be unveiled at this year's E3. Now it seems like Famitsu's Hirokazu Hamamura would make the perfect The Price is Right contestant; he guessed, and he guessed wrong.

Now IGN tells us that Nintendo Japan has flat out denied the possibility of a new DS at E3 this year. [cue failure fanfare] Nintendo's head of PR shuts down Hamamura's rumor:

"We cannot comment on the specifics of what will be announced at E3, but at the very least there won't be anything like what Mr. Hamamura suggested, so would like to clearly deny this. We're having a hard time understanding what kind of evidence [Mr. Hamamura] had for saying this."

Many of you said that you were interested in certain improvements, and some said that they would buy a new one. Are you disappointed now?

Now that Nintendo has shot down this rumor, do you think they're telling the truth. Didn't they shoot down similar rumors before the Gameboy Advance SP and DS Lite were released?

I knew they weren't doing it and said as much.
Because 1) the DS is doing great and 2) it's too soon and 3) anyone remember the GBA micro.

Unsurprised. I thought it was way too early when I heard all the rumors. No one wants a HD, a DYING format in their DS. Takes up too much battery power. Flash would be the way to go, and a bigger battery pack.

Also Gameboy Micro was full of fail.

I don't really see the point of re-iterating the DS any further. Anything else they do to it is going to be so minor that it probably won't deserve it's own SKU. That said, I would not put it past Nintendo to try.

one way I think its too bad, redesigns are always beneficial to us ( the users ) but my wallet is thankfull!

GuitarAtomik and I are on the same thought plane here. DS as is is about as good as it gets without becoming a PSP or adding something so inconsequential that it really doesn't warrant a new model.

P.S. That is one freaking hilarious and painful to watch The Price Is Right video...

...back to the topic at hand, Nintendo denied the DS Lite a week before they announced it, so I don't take their word for anything nowadays.

Its bad marketing to announce things before the assigned time. I don't know if they are or are not goign to announce a new one. But they aren't going to tell you 3 months out and watch the sales of the lite drop off.
