Nintendo hinders Daigasso! Band Bros DX piracy attempts photo

Regular readers know and have heard me say often that my favorite DS game is the Japanese music/rhythm game Daigasso! Band Bros. And it will continue to hold that title for another... few days, until my import copy of Daigasso! Band Bros DX comes in.

Those that chose to go the less legal route (Nintendo probably does not look favorably on importing either) and download the newly released game might be running into a bit of block, and it seems this block was intentional. Word is that this game uses 1mb save instead of the traditional 512kb, and that these saves aren't loading correctly on some flashcarts.

Of course, the hacking and piracy community won't take defeat so easily. DS Fanboy says that some have defeated this limitation already. But, even after all of this, they still can't grab any of the 200 downloadable songs available through the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

In the long run, I'm sure the hackers will go out of their way to implement all of these songs into the ROM. Why not just buy it, though. I'd think dropping $40 at an importer is better than the download-wait-hack-wait-repeat process. Besides, I think it would make a fine addition to your gaming library.

[Thanks, Brian]

Ouendan > Daigasso

I never really got into Daigasso. Of course, I didn't really play around with it too much. Time to give it another go I suppose!

If they managed to get that limit undone, then it should only be a matter of time before every cart works around every other issue.

Daigasso is amazing, they have a karaoke feature as well. XD;; Though I don't know about singing wherever I go sounds like a good idea. I hear that you can store 100 downloadable songs that can't be removed?

Daigasso is different that Ouendan. Not even close. And I can say I'm really excited about this! Are we seeing a western version?

The problem was fixed.
There's no story here. (other than the fact that I am not buying Daigasso! Band Brothers DX because of the PERMANENT DLC)

See, on every point I'd agree with you, but then there's the Permanent DLC. I had every intention of importing this one, but only having 100 songs is a killer in a title this much reliant on music.

Hey if they can come up with a workaround to this then what's a little more effort to come up with a save file editor like with the first game?

Why would flashcarts not be able to get the DLC? Worked for Mario vs DK 2: March of the Minis.

You can't beat the hackers, Nintendo.

Better yet, how about Nintendo stop being dicks and just bring the goddamned game to the US?
(same with mother 3)

I'm reading through some forums concerned with this and some people have come to the conclusion that their main enemy is a region lock as some people who have fully evaded the save file issue still can't connect or download any songs.

Before all that, though, I wonder why Dave North saw it fit to write about something like this on the front page.
