Nintendo finally gets patent for Wii sensor bar stand photo

Watch out third party manufacturers. After two and a half years, Nintendo finally received approval from the patent office for the Wii sensor bar stand (or “Base Stand for Sensor Bar” if you’re into proper names).

Why did it take so long? I'm not sure, but I’m willing to guess that it has something to do with how useless the contraption is. I’ve been using a copy of Fire Emblem to raise my bar off the bottom of the television stand. It’s a brilliant trade off because (1) it prevents me from playing Fire Emblem and (2) the casing gives just enough boost for the Wii remote to register perfectly.

It’s a 14-year patent, and as MTV Multiplayer points out, has the possibility to interfere with next generation platform designs of Sony and Microsoft. That is, of course, if they decide that waggle is better than buttons. (Please don’t, guys.)

They actually patented it. Are they serious? What the heck? What makes this so unique that it's got a patent to ward off pontential patent infringers? It's just a fucking stand! What next, patenting a Wiimote strap to prevent butterfingered people from throwing their controllers?

...Why would you want to be prevented from playing Fire Emblem?

Fire Emblem represents ultimate good.

Just thought I should point out that it's a design patent, not a utility patent.

I have a knockoff sensor bar with a stand that doesn't resemble that thing enough to count.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: The Patent System is broken.

Incoming waggle with more buttons on all platforms, trust me Brad, it will happen and regular controllers will be optional.

as for bar stand, i have no idea where mine is, table cloth seems to be doing just fine.

My mentality is, Please do. Done well, its the future. Done poorly, its the suck. I went through all resident evil games before 5 came out. I'd have loved to have played 5 with the control scheme of 4. I'm sure I'm not the only one with that opinion.

@Pushtrak: When I see motion control done well I'll be able to comment, unfortunatly the Wii hasn't quite reached that level yet.

This is a good decision. We hope for that. Nintendo DS is now a favorite playing console for the children. They should keep ahead their path. dental lab
