Although this whole "hardcore" and "casual" stuff is divisive nonsense, one can't pretend that Nintendo isn't exactly pandering to those of us who, say, wear T-shirts with Triforces on them and wax lyrical on how the opera scene in Final Fantasy VI was the best thing ever produced. Nintendo knows this, and has promised that our sad and nerdy ears will prick up at E3.
"We will be announcing several new titles that core gamers will be interested in around the time of E3," stated Nintendo's PR chief Marc Franklin, who also asserted that "the clear majority of people waiting in line outside retailers on Sunday mornings to buy their Wii consoles are core gamers."

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
All right, so, we have rumors of a new Kid Icarus, a new Donkey Kong, a new Pikmin, the reveal of the new Animal Crossing, the revival of Project H.A.M.M.E.R.- who's putting money on any of those?
Still, I just want Mega Man 9.
I know but I'm hoping they do so. Then I can get a black one and give my old one to the girlfriend.
i think were over the the Wii jokes right?
What else? I'm hoping a new Metroid 2D.
Oh and isn't Rockman and Forte/Mega Man and Bass= Mega Man 9?
This would be greatness.
With that out of the way, Nintendo had better have a legendary showing at E3 this year to make up for how ho-hum this year has been.
What makes you such a hardcore Nintendo fan? Anwser me honestly.
I.ve been playings since I was little, and even owned all of the Nintendo systems, yet I don't defend them at all cost. You continue to defend them even when they are shoving a cock in your throat and then beating you with a 2X4 afterwards for not swallowing.
-Kid Icarus
-F-Zero Wii
-Mario Tennis
-One of those nifty backroom, on again off again gritty titles
-Mario Tournament Shooter ("I could make Halo if I wanted too"), which will support the headset/miscellaneous peripheral that they hired testers for.
-A pokemon title
Nope. It's a gaiden of sorts, or a MM 8.5. It was never officially Mega Man 9.

Believe or not, lots of people love their Wiis, myself included. In fact, of all my hardcore video game friends (people who have owned systems in ever generation, played games for decades, play all the time, and follow game news), only one has a PS3 (6 have Wiis). He just bought the PS3 for MGS4 because he's an insane MGS fan. Only my one buddy who NEVER plays videogames has a 360.
We all like different things. If the PS3's your thing, go for it. I don't care. But I love Smash Bros. I love Mario Kart. I love Mario Galaxy. I love Super Paper Mario. I love No More Heroes. I love the Metroid and Zelda series. Heck, I even like playing Wii Sports when I have lots of friends over.
Don't act like throwing some sort of "d00d im hardcore" card around gives you the right to be a flaming fanboy.
- Kid Icarus (this is a no brainer)
- F-Zero
- Donkey Kong Platformer of some type
- Castlevania
- Star Fox game (flying only)
- DuckTales
I'm still not convinced they can pull the series off in 3d. The n64 ones were awful, so were the PS2 ones.
I like you. You always have a great arguement, and thats what I was wanting. Im bored at work and its a slow news day.
Do you find any interest in games like Fable, Lost Oydessy, Ratchet & Clank? When I played the Future Tools of Destruction and MGS I was amazed at the level of detail in the games. Do you not like PS3/360 games because you think good graphics don't equate a good game?
Too many sequels suck!
I like Nintendo. I like their business model. I like the Wii. I like their games. I don't care about paying $50 for online or XBL, or "hi-deff graffix", or "I only play mature non-kiddy games with gratuitous gore, sex, and profanity". I want my game machine to be just that--a game machine, not a media hub that costs $400+. I want games that are fun, and that's what the Wii offers me.
If that revokes my "hardcore" card, then you can have it. I've been an avid video gamer for twenty years; I was playing Final Fantasy back when it was just for D&D nerds; I loved Harvest Moon from its beginning; I think Shenmue II is one of the greatest games ever made--I don't need the approval from an industry that can't see the forest for the trees (how the industry just doesn't comprehend Nintendo's strategy) as to whether I'm "hardcore" or not.
Im amazed. I would think you would have a completely different perspective on games after playing them for so long. See, im the opposite. I love watching games grow into beautiful pieces of cinematic art. MGS4, Bioshock & Lost Oydessy are excellent examples. Look, I would rather pay 400 dollars and get more for my money than pay 250 and get shorted. Also, High Def graphics doesn't always mean the game will suck. Graphics will always control our mood and emnotions more than a controller could.
Fixed it for you.
Here's hoping for a Zelda game that doesn't suck. Please for the love of all that is not crappy, make a god damned Zelda game that doesn't suck. Last great Zelda game was Phantom Hourglass, but as much as I love it, I still hate fairies that say "HEY" to me all the damned time and I hate sailing around like an idiot. (Last game that was good before that was Link's Awakening - All you OoT people need a good kick in the balls.) What happened to that preview years ago of Link on a horse riding into battle, sword drawn, against an ARMY of Moblins and Lizard Men and the like!? When are we going to get a Zelda that reflects the reality that we've been growing up with this guy for over 20 years and as our lives have progressed, so too should his? I mean, now that I'm 27, I'm really into riding into crowds on my horse and messing people up. Let's get down with that, shall we. Oh and NO TURNING INTO WOLVES. FURRIES ARE NOT COOL NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE SAYS THANKS
- New Zelda that doesn't suck.
- New Metroid that isn't freakin' first person.
- Promises of no more sports, Wario or other Mario spin-offs
- Announcement that I get to be in charge of everything from here on out.
Awesome E3 [claps]
Also, I'm hoping for Kid Icarus, a new Metroid, New Super Mario Bros. 2, Pikmin 3, F-Zero, and a Wii Star Fox. Also, at least a trailer for a new Zelda or Mario Galaxy.
I dunno about that, man. I can honestly tell you I wouldn't have had near as much fun playing Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime 3, or No More Heroes were it not for the Wiimote. I got into that shit with Link. For me it isn't so much the graphics as it is the art design--a game could have the most technically-proficient graphics in the world, but if the art design doesn't appeal to me I'm not playing it. Same thing for me with Wind Waker and Twilight Princess: Yes, WW may be the better as far as graphics, but I love TP's LotR style infinitely more than WW's Powerpuff Girls design.
Another possible explanation for me was I missed the GameCube era, due to a lack of money to spend on video games. So maybe for me the newfound GC library for me makes up for what a regular person would call the Wii's shortcomings/two GameCubes duct-taped together.
A lot of it boils down to money. I can't afford $400 systems or $60 games, and one of the Wii's biggest selling points is its low cost.
Lost Odyssey, maybe. I've historically loved RPG's, but I play them less and less. I'm actually more excited about Fallout 3 for the PC than any of the console RPG's coming out soon. I might get Mass Effect for the PC. We'll see. My brother is playing Fable, and, while he is enjoying it, he didn't imply it was all that fantastic. I own Oblivion and Bioshock for the PC though, and both were good. Bioshock kept making me nauseous, however, with the closed environments. I just can't play much more of it, sadly. It seems to great too....
Essentially, I don't think graphics are everything. I get more excited when I play Super Paper Mario and see all the crazy stuff they do with it than when I play Crysis (which I have). I love gameplay. I go gaga for gameplay.
I just haven't seen the 360 or PS3 have enough that sets them apart from the PC or the PS2. The best games for them seem like graphically updated PS2 games. Sure, a few of the Wii's games are comparable to their GC predecessors (SSBB without the solo mode, Mario Kart Wii, Metroid), but I didn't have a Gamecube. On top of that, I think they're starting to go places they didn't go before. Super Paper Mario and Super Mario Galaxy, despite the fact that they are both Mario games, are unique, incredibly fun experiences. Games that properly utilize the Wiimote really don't have equivalents elsewhere. Regardless, as I had no GC, it's all new to me.
F-Zero and Kid Icarus are going to be pretty much no brainers. I'm sticking my neck out and calling for a new 1080 Snowboarding game which'll use the balance board. Other than that I think there's going to be a Virtual Console announcement which'll be either a new format or the long running rumour of a portable VC for the DS.
Kid Icarus is popping up in like everyone's predictions. Is this really feasible?
I'd like to see a new Star Fox. I guess there were a few for Gamecube, but I'm under the assumption that I'm not missing a lot by avoiding them.
...fact of the matter - we'll never know until E3, and it's the PR person's job to drum up hype leading up to the show.
So I guess we'll wait and see with some high hopes!
Im a broke bastard too, but paying 10 more dollars a game won't make you much more broke. It was the wiimote that ruined those games for me. When I played TP, the contols were horrible and most of the time I had to shake the nunchuck three of fours times just to do a Spin attack. Pressing a button would have been better.

"I just haven't seen the 360 or PS3 have enough that sets them apart from the PC or the PS2"
Look, you might as well call the 360/PS3 a PC. Shit, even on the PS3 you can instal Linux. Also, MGS4 woudn't have been able to run on last gen hardware, but SSBB & Mario Galaxy could.
"Essentially, I don't think graphics are everything. I get more excited when I play Super Paper Mario and see all the crazy stuff they do with it than when I play Crysis (which I have). I love gameplay. I go gaga for gameplay."
Im the opposite. I played Super Paper Mario, and yes it was fun, but it was super easy and there was a ton of backtracking. Cyrsis, is fun because of the physics and graphics.
"Games that properly utilize the Wiimote really don't have equivalents elsewhere."
I want you to show me these games, because all of the dumb games I have played have crappy controls that would be better on a 360/PS3 pad. You guys are crazy to think shaking and waving your arm is so much better than just pressing a button.

I'm not exactly sure what you're saying here. I mean, if they're basically a PC, why would I want them? I have a PC. It's a good gaming PC. I can run Crysis on highest settings. Why buy another one? Also, so what about running last generation hardware? My favorite PC game right now is Europa Universalis 3: In Nomine. It can run on 4 year old pc's. Do you think I care?
Wii Sports II with bags, beanbags, cornhole whatever anyone calls it. How about Wii BeerPong?
They announced Twilight Princess approx a year after Wind Waker was out, so I think its about time now.
They should also announce something new and original, THAT ISNT AIMED FOR KIDS AND OLD PEOPLE, BUT FOR HARDCORE FANS!
I'm also hoping for a new F-zero game with online mode.
*prepares for a cutesy Kid Icarus flight lesson game with motion controls* Do Want? Maybe, but doubt it.
Pilotwings?
