Nintendo 'disappointed' by E3 showing ... they weren't the only ones photo

Nintendo of America's sales and marketing boss Cammie "That Woman" Dunaway has expressed her disappointment in Nintendo's E3 performance. You might remember it -- it's the one where Reggie insists that Animal Crossing is a game we should all blow our load over and a man is invited on stage to have a seizure in front of an imaginary drum kit that plays itself. No idea why they'd show remorse for that little exhibition.

"I would say the message is we were disappointed with our performance at E3," stated That Woman. "There were titles like Wario which we think will be really fun titles that we should have showcased.

"We were excited that Mr. Miyamoto made the commitment that Pikmin is coming. It would have been nice if we could have said that on stage. But, we think it was a good recognition for us that we care for our core fans, and not just the new people who are now discovering Nintendo."

Yes, you should have showed Wario during the press conference, and it would have been nice to announce Pikmin on stage, but it didn't happen. I think the problem recently lies with developers and publishers being terrified of scaring off these "new" gamers, like they're coaxing out a rare bird that'll fly away the second someone moves too quickly. What I see from NoA is all the good stuff being hidden away, shunted into a dark corner like a shameful secret that only the old school Nintendo loyalists know about. Have some damn pride in your best work and give it some of the spotlight next time, Nintendo.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Sax-a-ma-phone...sax-a-ma-phone.

I agree that this should have been a job for Captain Obvious. I mean, WTF...they teased us about a big name title that everyone has been waiting for, and all the rumors were saying it was a new Kid Icarus game. We even had supposed-possibly-real artwork leaked out.

And what did we get? Animal Crossing and Wii Music. I'll get AC when it's released...but that's the big news?

*looks at games he'll pick up from Nintendo in next 6 months*

Oh wait, there are none. Yeah, I'd say that E3 conference was a disappointment.

This is just another piece of evidence pointing to the fact that Nintendo is destroying the concept of gaming as we know it.

No, it was a perfect press conference for games! I'd much rather her that Nintendo lady give us a long winding story about how she hurt her leg instead of...you know...games.

The lack of third party support was shameful.
Yet, they did not apologize for that.

amen destructoid amen..

yea, i've given up on the wii as a real gaming system; fun around the family but not so much when playing alone..

plus, my ass and back were getting sore from paying money for games i'd bought in cartridge format years ago.

If you ask me, Nintendo has always been a bit ... "ashamed" of Nintendo-licensed products done by third parties (and perhaps even second-party in terms of "Metroid Prime 3.").

"Wario Land: Shake It" was developed by Good-Feel.
That awful Wario DS game was developed by Suzak.
"Yoshi's Island DS" was done by Artoon.

I know I am channeling Captain Obvious here, but Nintendo really only puts marketing muscle/pride behind first-party Nintendo products.

of course after reading the real article instead of the summary Jim posted from edge-online, I found it most interesting that the internets made Mrs. Dunaway cry.

I now feel that she completely screwed up instead of actually purposely sabotaged nintendo with the gamers that actually buy games.

I for one didn't understand why they didn't showcase the Wario game. It looks good and seems to be simple enough for everyone to get into. And Pikmin would have made some fans (myself included) very happy to hear about. We all know Nintendo is bad about holding their cards to their chests, but usually they do better at E3... we know from comments from both Miyamoto and Reggie that the Zelda and Mario teams are hard at work on new games. They could have at least gave us a tease at what those new games might be...

I don't see why they should bother worrying about the "new" and "casual" nintendo fans. What are the chances said groups are even going to notice/care about anything that happens over at E3?

Oh fuck who cares. E3 is old news. You'd think it was some nuclear arms summit or something.

hiding their triple a titles is exactly what they do with games like metroid and battalion wars 2 and then they dont sell well and then they all fucking wonder why.
