I had very low expectations going in but honestly I am very impressed by their online service. It looks leagues more intuitive than Xbox Live, and knowing Nintendo it will be completely free of charge as well. All they have to do is show some exciting games for the launch window on Tuesday and they've got this in the bag.
I think the concept was pretty charming and I did think of Demon's Souls/Dark Souls when the Facebook wall-ish aspect was shown. I like the cut of Miiverse's jib.
Hmm....that zombie game that the guy was playing the demonstration sounded familiar. Almost like a certain popular zombie game with sixth entry coming out this year. A game where evil is.....resident.
This is pretty neat, but I hope I can turn it off also. I'm pretty sure people will be using this to spoil stuff left and right.
However I think this would give alot games a second wind for me, after I beat it I go back and play it with friends commentary. Kind how movies come with commentary tracks.

I just hope that enough people I know will buy it for me to have any use of the Miiverse. But yeah, looks alright, could be awesome if done right. n___n

I expect that almost all of the next gen systems will have social networking built in (Sony has this with the PSP/Vita and MS has this with the PC/Xbox intermessaging systems). I'm glad to see that Nintendo is getting in on this, though I do hope that they also included a strong parental control system.
One of the reasons I recommended a Wii for my young nephews was to keep them away from trash-talking asshat gamers like myself... I hope the Wii retains a strong system for keeping kids restricted to other kids that they know - and not the internet at large.

It seems Nintendo did try this time with the online/social aspects of the games.
All that remains to be seen is if people use these new tools.

I thought what they showed was pretty cool. I still they think need to remind people that this is a next generation system. I just heard some idiots at gamestop today talking and they still weren't certain what the Wii U was beyond the unique controller.
Its pretty sad that humans are so dense, but you really have to cater to the total dipshard these days. Just imagine the soccer moms of the world trying to figure out if they should buy the Wii U or not. It's going to be a fucking mess.

I liked the concept as an idea, but agree with scissors and others. It creeps me out, and I won't be using it...^_^;
I'm very intrigued by the possibilities of Miiverse. That's the kind of social networking I could get behind. Though, since others brought it up, I do hope there's some way to avoid spoilers. Also, Non-specific Action Figure = Wii U's first killer app complete with NFC features

The hardware is all very impressive, but in the end it's all about the games, which we haven't seen a lot of. I'm sure they're saving those for the actual press conference this week, hopefully that will be just as impressive as all this.
I thought this was very cool! I think it's going to be really fun and it's such a step up from Nintendo's usual online fare.
Wii U isn't next gen, it's pretty much like what the dsi is to the regular DS, slightly different hardware but it's the same thing. i'm seriously wondering how and why nintendo expects people to spend money on a console they already have.
HD graphics and tablet controller doesn't change the fact that wii sold really well, and most people already have one, so getting a .5 upgrade, that is still running this gen hardware while we are in the later stages of the current gen seems like a waste of money.
but then again, plenty of dsi owners ran out to buy the 3ds, and plenty of people own every version of the ipod so i guess there is a market for people who MUST have the latest stuff.

Yes, watching this and last years E3 I wouldn't doubt people getting confused about "just a new controller". Anyway this all seems very cool, no information on voice chat so I'm assuming there is none, sucks, but then again I never did use it on all the other systems.

i fail to see how making a console that is finally on par with 360 and ps3 = next gen. sounds like late to the party to me

@Ronin4life - I'm willing to pay a few bucks per month if it gives me a reliable system that is unique to the big 3. Even PS3 still doesn't have universal voice chat, meaning that it's outside of whatever (different) games you and your friends are playing, and we don't know yet if WiiU will do this, either. If it doesn't, and this is all about simple messaging and social network integration, it'll be a waste of time.

If that video chat is as good as Xbox Live's without the subscription, I'm totally excited for it! I only pay for Live because of the online gaming and video chat functionality, but this would be a huge step up if I could get those two things for free on the Wii U. Color me enthused!

Ok controller is black that's a good thing and this video is very bad, really. I hate that guy and the fact that he's playing a non-game that doesn't even exist; should I call that "a non specific zombie shooter".
But anyway the online system seems to be a good move, I like that.

What I would like for the system to have is voice chat, and Psn/ Xbox type of friends list. Also I do like the friend code because my younger family loves to play Mario Kart online, but please no more friend codes.
This could really be cool if it works like it's shown here. Makes me wonder what Microsoft and Sony are cooking up because this + some seems like the next logical step.
It's awesome to see that Nintendo seems to actually be encouraging an online community. The original Wii was was like a prison visit with Nintendo yelling "NO TOUCHING" at every turn.
