The limited-edition Wii version of Super Mario All-Stars has come and gone -- yeah, it happened that quickly -- but this may not be the end for the compilation disc's retail presence.
"We are gratified by the consumer response to this limited-edition product, which we created to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros. game on NES," Nintendo PR director Marc Franklin expressed to Wired.com.
"Because of the strong response, we are exploring the option of bringing this item back at a later date. Until that decision is made, consumers should check with retailers, as supplies will vary by store."
I'm sure some of you decided against getting the game because you figured the purchase could wait while you got a newer title in the meantime. Well, let's hope for your sake Nintendo issues a reprint. The demand certainly appears to be there.

"bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
The extras sounded nice, but yeah, without those I'm not sure how many people would've actually gotten this. Still think it'd have been cool to have the original versions, the SNES upgrades, and then a NSMB-styled graphical update to each game on the disc.
If people were "shit on" every time they bought a "limited edition" then pretty much anybody who has ever bought a DVD would be dead from fecal asphyxiation. Limited edition is just a classic method of selling and if demand is high enough a company will reprint a product. There's really no reason a person should want special privileges just because they bought their same exact copies a couple of months earlier. Now if nintendo came out with a second version for the same price that included super mario world, that would be shitty for the initial buyers.
Color me flabbergasted.
On that subject a comprehensive Zelda compendium (not that I don't own two already on the Gcube) NES-N64 (don't scrimp on the SNES game this time) for the Wii would also be something I might be interested in for say $20-30
THIS!
That is the reason to own All-Stars on the Wii. I am a die hard SNES fan but even I can admit that they look like crap when hooked up to modern TVs. That's why I keep my Super Nintendos (yes plural, I own 3 of them) hooked up to old TVs. Thus, if I want to play Super Nintendo games on my comfy couch, they need to be on the Wii in some form. Given the extras included, I have not problem paying $30 for what is essentially a SNES game on a Wii disc. I also have no problem with it being reprinted. It is hardly rare as is, so who cares if a few hundred thousand more people get to play it. It would be cool if they stripped the packaging of all the gold and replaced it with white though. Something superficial like that to make the first printing distinct from the second, like the old Zelda carts.
" i guess you just have to be over 25 to appreciate it."
That's pretty elitist. It's the same exact thing as the copy I already have for my still working SNES - I'm sure I'd enjoy them both, but I don't care to spend $30 just for 480p SNES games.
I'd buy it just because it's a collector's item just on principle, if it was reprinted, but I'm not totally missing out - it's the same game.
And they didn't bother porting that, better version, off to the the Wii for their 25th anniversary because SMW is on their virtual console. Thats quite the gift to the fans right there. You all could have downloaded an emulator and played it there. Specially since they didn't bother updating the on screen controller help scheme to match the Wii's controls.
I don't know who's worse.. The fans for buying it or Nintendo for putting it out this way. Either way its pretty stupid, and this is coming from a person who ate up Mario ports the the various gameboys and such -at least those games had different and varied modes to go through.
It's a great game, but not worth the price in my opinion.
