Outside of an emulator, it wasn't possible to play Nintendo games in glorious 1080p -- that's all about to change in a short month, as Nintendo has just confirmed that New Super Mario Bros. U will indeed support it.
According to the official site, the description says it all, "Experience Mario like never before...in full 1080p HD, only on the Wii U console!" Seems pretty straightforward, folks!
This comes as a surprise, as Nintendo was rumored to not support 1080 out of the box, instead opting to start incorporating it at a later date. This rumor was even further backed up by the fact that demonstrations of the game were running at 720p.
As a Nintendo fan who has longed for them to enter the HD era, I couldn't be more excited. It would be great if both Nintendo and third parties keep supporting this in the future. I just hope it's native 1080p and not upscaled, as many other console games tend to do.
