Been awhile, kids -- it's your favorite Linde, freshly returned from the barbaric wastes of Hungary, where goose liver serves as both key component to every meal and a common substitute for drinking water. Them folks are crazy about their goose liver. When I stepped off the plane in Seattle I made tracks for the nearest vat of soiled bacon grease, dunked my head in, and gargled our national anthem. Uh'merrica!
Anyways, you might be wondering how I so swiftly recovered from a half day's travel and the ensuing jet lag without the traditional meth bender to right my internal clock. The secret is this: intellectually stimulating gaming conversation between Mother creator and renowned novelist Shigesato Itoi and Satoru Iwata, president and CEO of Nintendo. Their discussion over dinner was recorded and transcribed, and in the first two selections of what will eventually become an eleven article series, talk up Miyamoto's design habits, customer satisfaction and other nebulous industry topics. The perfect pick-me-up for a world-weary nerd.
There's a lot of possibility in this format -- maybe we can get David Jaffe and Cliff Bleszinski in a room together, feed 'em beer and keep 'em talking long enough that they start railing on everyone they've ever hated, throwing chairs and turning over tables. That's entertainment. Until Destructoid can scrounge up the cash to make it happen, the Itoi/Iwata series (while decidedly sober) certainly proves a good read.

huh?
A guy who is talking about the Mother series, namely Earthbound and Mother 3, is Ried Young, the guy running www.starmen.net. and directing the upcoming Mother 3 translation patch.
Here's part one and part two of his interview with DSfanboy.com. He makes some really interesting points, especially about why Earthbound failed the first time it was released in the USA.
"What are you, fucking kidding me? NO. Screw those people!"
"HAHAHAHA"
"HAHAHAHA"
"Pass the salt."
Sony and Microsoft provide a decent environment for developers, but Nintendo are for the design purists out there, there is an abundance of companies like Sony and Microsoft and there always will be, but it's important that companies like Nintendo, Apple, Gainax etc, continue to be successful with such off beat thinking.
Oh, and more Mother 3, thanks.
Melvin Goes to Dinner would've been a good parallel, too.
I stopped at Mother. If they're not talking about that, then they're not talking about business.
