Speaking with Wired, Nintendo of America has revealed that it will launch the Nintendo Channel alongside WiiWare next month. Already available in Japan, the Nintendo Channel will allow gamers who have played WiiWare games for at least an hour to review the game. These reviews will then be public, which is an interesting alternative to playable demos, of which Nintendo has absolutely no plans to provide to gamers.

Additionally, the Nintendo Channel will offer a list of upcoming Nintendo DS and Wii games, which can be sorted in a number of ways based on the user's preference (release date, genre, etc.). Most exciting, Nintendo DS demos will finally be coming home -- players will be able to beam game demos to their handhelds, which will remain there until the unit is turned off. No more fighting at the local GameStop with pre-teens over the DS download stations.

When the service launched in Japan last year, other features like streaming web videos were also available, so it looks like Nintendo are planning to offer quite a bit of content. But is it too little, too late? Or do you prefer Nintendo's approach to the services Sony and Microsoft are offering?

A USB keyboard works just fine with the Wii.

Well, I'm sure it's lack of room for Wii Demos, maybe?

I usually buy based on reviews and research instead of demos, and just curse when I buy something I don't really play (like SSBB! hah!)...but it sucks for people who are big on demos. At least it's a start with the DS.

Oh yes...its what I've always wanted! Now if they'd just give people in Europe and the US Club Nintendo (lucky Aussies!) we'll be set.

@Rhoq:
Suppose I don't have one of those.

Also watch there be a ridiculously low limit for review text.

wow...thank god I can finally play DS demos on my...oh wait I don't own a DS...damn thats a waste. Guess I'll have to go out and buy one so I can fully use my Wii to the fullest.

Such a retarded way of dealing with things...reviews? I can do that online. I mean seriously. I wanna try before I buy. same with wii videos...or isnt that what GameTrailers.com makes their living off of.

Seems interesting. Hopefully it won't suck. Come on Nintendo, time to pull you head out of Yamauchi's ass.

The DS demo aspect has me interested, it's about time they offered that. They could use this service as a good way to promote upcoming software (like the Metriod Prime 3 channel did). I'm still waiting for that online Nintendo Power channel Reggie hinted at years ago though.

I've actually been looking forward to the DS demo feature. Last time I went to check out a download station, the unit that provides the downloads was off (at a Target store). I had to track down an employee who could turn it on (had to show them where it was). As I was performing the download, I had a few moms with kids in tow give me dirty looks, as if the only ones who should have a DS are under 15 and I was a pedophile for owning one.

Good times.

This could be cool, but unfortunately Im gonna go out on a limb here and say that more than anything this is just a marketing "channel" than anything....someone in a board meeting was prob. like, "We need to figure out a way to put our tv commercials on the Wii itself," and thats what they've done.
