Nintendo by Torrel: Nintendo clothing aimed at the Urban market

9:32 PM on 11.07.2007, Hamza CTZ Aziz 46 comments

     Mario
Nintendo by Torrel is an attempt to get gamer clothing to the urban market. The line of clothing went on sale today and are all limited editions (only 1,000 of each shirt and jacket are being made). The clothing starts at $50 and goes all the way up to $200.

I like the concept and some of the designs are great, but the pricing is just too much. I can understand the high pricing (since Nintendo is taking a portion of the profits) but your typical target audience for this specific style of clothing usually doesn't have that kind of cash to put into clothes. Especially when $50 can buy you a game on average.

What do you all think about the clothes? My favorite has to be Torpedo Ted. He hasn't gotten any love since Super Mario World.

Hamza if you notice the guy selling him, he is one of those ballin thugz. Therefore that goes with the same line as Ecco, rocca wear stuff like that where you can easily spend 100 dollars per tshirt. and over 100 dollars per sweater. lets not get started how much a thug coat would cost.

Ugh. I sort of like of the designs, the price is crazy. I wonder if this will become the next NASCAR Jacket, or Bathing Ape? I dont really keep up with BET or the "black urban culture". Some of those hoodies are nice as well, although I am sure they are probably too big. Dammit why cant Express, or the Gap, get nintendo rights!!

Why the fuck would i buy a 105 dollar hoody? Mass Effect an Assassins creed would be a wise purchase as opposed to these emo ass clothes

Trendy overpriced urban gamerwear am fail.

Also I don't see Captain N's jacket, so fuck them.

The bomb is the only one I would even think of wearing. I don't understand this new trend of putting absolutely ridiculous things on shirts then charging $80 for them. Very few people would look good wearing these.

@ mack

this ambercrombie shirt is 40$ and looks like a fuckin piece of shit. I think i'd pay 10 bucks more for one of these.

I'd say the only good thing about this is there are only 1,000 people to make fun of for blowing that much on this stuff.

Ugh...I may be in the minority but these shirts are ugly. I have no problem paying that kind of money for a shirt or jacket but its gotta look good. These look like NES and Nascar had a crack baby.

I'd buy the hell out of the Bom-omb shirt if it wasn't fifty fucking dollars. The only saving grace there is that they gave it the dignity of not having a retarded slogan across it. You just know someone wanted "DATS DA BOMB!!!" in faux faded block lettering on that sucker.
fromagex's Avatar
fromagex at 11/07/2007 22:11
i guess they don't realize that gamers aren't exactly the type that have upwards of 200 laying around to blow on a shirt...i'd rather spend it on games.

@Bluemeep

Ahahaha. THREAD HIJACK! Come up with super lame slogans that you could see some lame marketing exec plaster across the shirts in an attempt to be 'hip'!

Torpedo Ted shirt:

"I'll bust a cap in 'yo ass"

Hmm, after searching around the site i noticed a positve atleast for me. Aparently its a black owned company, which is nice to see in my opinion. Of course it would be better if it wasnt a such a generic black business, urban fashion.

Tacky as fuck.

For reals.

I think the star hoodie and the bomb-omb shirt are the only tasteful items in the lineup.

I wouldn't mind having the bombomb shirt and starman hoodie. I like the way those look. They don't look too, I dunno, cluttered?

But yeah with that price? Oof no thanks.

That's just like this ghetto / urban clothes store in the mall near my house. They have this Terminator hoodie that's all black, but it's got the body of the t-800 printed on the hoodie in a shiny silver style. It actually resembles those old black zip-up hoodies with the skeleton print on them. It's pretty cool, it's even one of those total zip-ups that zip up past your head from the front and it has the skull with the red eyes and everything. But it's like $70 bucks! Still pretty cool though.

I hate that Nintendo has turned into some sort of icon for young adults who thinks it's totally retro to honor the 8-bit era.
