Nintendo president Satoru Iwata and developer Shigeru Miyamoto sat down to have a talk with each other for Nintendo’s official WiiMusic page to discuss the joys of playing WiiMusic. One of the topics covered was that of education. Both the men said there was some inherent educational value in the game, which probably has something to do with the fact that WiiMusic doesn’t require any skill, rhythm, or taste to pick up.
From the interview: Iwata: Well, there, with Wii Music, there's a strong possibility of raising people's basic level of music education.
Miyamoto: Yes. Thus, from now, I've even thought it would it would be great if kindergartens or elementary schools got Wii Music and began kid's music education with that...
Honestly, if I could teleport back to elementary school and have my recorder and “Hot Cross Buns” sheet music revoked for WiiMusic, I probably would have never picked up another instrument in my life. How does a game where one aimlessly hits buttons and sways around to canned music teach music? Miyamoto and Iwata forgot to address that apparently.
At least there’s still hope that Nintendo could make the collegiate life easier. I suggest WiiHesiod, where players can act out the Archaic period lifestyle and obligations. WiiPurgatory would suffice as it could easily give inference on the usages of indulgences pre-European Reformations. Make that happen, Nintendo. [via GoNintendo]

I guess this "game" can teach you humility. Shaming kids is what we do best!
When I was in kindergarten, my teacher made me play the "dog" and "cheerleader." I always got the crappy instruments.
I hope the teachers get WiiMusic and take it seriously in class. (Queue Family Guy dream sequence)
Teacher (walking around the class observing): Sounds like cheap midi F. Not waggling enough D-, Dog not doggy enough F. Isn't having any fun at all F-, Crying too much F, Says his wrists hurt from playing too much D-, Says he wants to go home now F.
Looks like I'm amusing myself here. Awesome!
I can imagine my high school marching band marching with wii controllers in their hand during half-time. C'mon, now that's effing funny! Huh? HUH!?
<cherp cherp, ribbit...>
I must be the last guy on the internets! No one else is making fun of wiimusic! It's so dark in here... and cold. The walls are getting closer. The air is getting thick. I can't see. I can't.... breathe. Must...survive to make fun....of....stupid games.......like......wiimusic.....on....destructo........................uhh
<bow>
seriously, this game sucks.
Ok, this is now my personal destructoid thread. No one may touch it unless I give permission.
This game was invented by accident, actually. The programmer that was assigned to make the notation for the songs "just didn't feel like it" and thus wiimusic was born. That, or a monkey with a cigar and typewriter was assigned to do that part of the code. Don't worry, it was a particularly smart monkey, a particularly good quality cigar and the typewriter was magical.
Where is everyone? I just want to make fun of wiimusic...but nobody is here to listen. It isn't fair. It isn't fair...
No, wait...nevermind. I'm far sighted. I can still read.
They should make lip-sync expansion packs for this game - Britney Spears edition, Spice Girls edition! You put the wiimote up to your face and pretend you're singing. The controller won't pick up anything you're doing, but who cares. You're Lip syncing!
Mr B Natural:
B quiet. B gone. B dead. B in a fire somewhere far from here.
FIRST!
Get it? that was a joke see, cause...nevermind.
Umm...

...lol
hmmm what to get wii music, pokemon ranch, or my aquarium.
oh hell i just can;t resist playing the dog.
your thread has ben hi-jacked mr. Bitch
I do believe that conductor is the legendary painter, Bob Ross.
Is Miyamoto constantly high?
Actually from what I've played of it you can aimlessly push buttons but you can also learn a lot about rythm and music. You can aimlessly play with a real musical instrument too, it works better though if you actually try to keep a beat. Some thing with WiiMusic.
@ Mr. B. Natural
wow, just wow.
Is no one else but me finding it hilarious that Mr. B Natural took over the comment thread on a post about music education?
@Ashley Davis
heh heh heh I get it!
No way that with playing Wii Music you can grasp what truly playing an instrument feels like. Dale North can probably testify to this :-).
And hey Nintendo, stop thinking you're top shit, you're not!
Nintendo is apparently trying to profit from humiliate music...
Way to go.
Humiliating*
Gosh, I really love typos.
hahaha.. you freakin serious?? yea, i learned about music by actually playing it.
when it comes down to it, learning piano is the best way to learn anything about music. establishes note/chord theory and reading music.
i guess i must be weird though.
i hope this game FAILS, FAILS FAILS!!!!!
I guess teaching people how to MIME is important. What are they going to do next, teach people how to be those annoying gold robot statues?
Honestly, I don't think they're too off with this. Kindergarten kids could benefit from Wii Music. Most other people? Probably not.
What will kids learn? Music if fun... for 5 minutes? Dogs make good instruments?
HE is talking about kindergartens, these kids need to develope anyway.
Getting them interested and have a sense of rhythm will help them allot.
Its amazing how bitter lots of you people are about this software. You guys seriously are being royal jackasses.
Try and look at it from a different perspective and not your own.
O and " Rhythm " should be "the" keyword here.
If only you guys knew how actuall music classes teach to kids...( yes people by clapping and singing stupid songs that we would never like)
