Nintendo at GDC = crickets photo

In case you were wondering why we didn't mention anything about Nintendo in our news about next week's Game Developer's Conference, well Chris Kohler over at Wired has a bit of information as to why. Check it out:

Due to a pending major stock trade, Nintendo executives and developers will not be able to discuss any "forward-looking" information at next week's Game Developers Conference, Wired News learned today.

Nintendo developers Shigeru Miyamoto, Eiji Aonuma, and Koji Kondo will be speaking to the press during GDC, but have been given specific instructions to not talk about anything that would constitute new information. For example, Aonuma can discuss past games in the Zelda series, but will not be able to answer any questions about upcoming games like Zelda: Phantom Hourglass.

The same gag order will apply to Nintendo executives Reggie Fils-Aime and Perrin Kaplan.

Gag orders are fun for everyone, huh kids?

Is it just me or has Nintendo become extremely hard to interview. No one's been able to ask them any real questions lately like "Why do you still use friend codes?" or "What happened to that no drought thing?".

Think about it. How many interviews have you seen with Reggie compared to Phil Harrison and Peter Moore? Odd.

Crap. My preorder of Phantom Hourglass has been sitting on my desk in front of me for 8 fuckin' months. Why is Nintendo so shitty when it comes to public relations?

Don't worry guys, Perrin will get drunk and let something slip. She'll be wrong and NoE will contradict her the next day but still.

As long as I've been a games journalist, Nintendo has always been very closed off from the media. It's really nothing new.

Doesn't Nintendo not really participate in GDC to begin with? The best you can get is some 3rd party talking about their game on the Wii or DS. Thats how TGS was except they would show the game and let hot girls play the games while you watch.

Typical for Nintendo, they're inscrutable as usual.

So, because of a 'major stoke trade' they aren't allowed to speak about the future of their product? I'm starting to think most of those stocks went to crazy ol' Ken Kutaragi. What kind of stock holder wants their PR team to sit on their hands? Nintendo needs to get their fanbase excited again, the Wii launch went very well and now is the time to assure everybody that their purchases were not wasted. Sure we know whats comming, but we need a reminder, maybe a peak into the development of Mario Galaxy or Metroid 3. If Aonuma speaks of the Zelda timeline then perhaps at least something will be noteworthy, but I was really looking foreward to some Z:PH info, as well as Mario. This is balls, I hope it isn't true...

Cancel all of your Nntendo meetings; get drunk instead.

That's my advice, Summa.
