Nintendo announces Pokepark for Wii photo

As rumored last week, Nintendo today officially announced Pokepark for the Wii. Very little was said about the game, but a briefing held for retailers last week had a few loose-lipped attendees, and they've let a Meowth or two out of the bag.

You'll take control of Pikachu, with your initial objective being to make friends with the other Pokemon at the park. This is done via minigames like tag, battles and quizzes. Once you've earned a few buddies, you can team up with them for more advanced co-op adventures.

Interaction with other Pokemon naturally makes up a big part of the game, and Pokepark is said to feature a screen grab mode, which allows you to take snapshots of your favorites, or any interesting Poke-happenings. Sounds a bit like Pokemon Snap! for Wii, maybe. The game is scheduled for release in Japan on December 5th at 4,800 Yen (roughly $50) and is rumored to include a pack of stickers for pimping out your Wiimote with Poke-things.

I think this game looks f*cking awesome, and I don't care what anyone says about that.

Dammit. Just make the fully 3D RPG game already!

I'll probably buy this like a whore anyways.

Haven't we grown old of pikachus yet? They're cute and all, but there are WAY cooler pPokémon at this point. Although the starters ones tend to fall on this aspect over the generations. I mean, a flaming monkey? Come on.

Looks...charming. I don't know, I could play to see what it's all about and make reminding the Pokémon names a personal challenge. I used to think a Pokémon game where you had control over your characters would've been trully awesome. And preferably not making it a Shiren-like game. Because let's face it, we've seen Chocobos, people, pokémon, probably Gundams(it's Japan we're talking about here) do it.

Seriously wtf bbq cheezburgerz. Make a fricking 3d pokemon already, an exact clone of the gb ones to the tee. In fact just make Pokemon Heart Firered/Leafgreen, rinse and repeat. Money or the bag? Jesus. They're sitting on a gold mine. I'm sure I'm missing some valuable point as to why they haven't done this already? Please divulge wise retoids. Project Natal, SoniiMote pfft 3D legit OG GB Pokemon would bury that shit. Screw innovation. Pokemon 3D would own, not this retardo Pikachu RPG.

I loved Pokemon Snap for what it was as a rail shooter and with Todd. I know this will be completely different but the concept sounds interesting.

Ok so I don't care so much for a true og 3D Pokemon as much as I used to. But honestly when I was young and Red just came out I used to dream about a colour 3D Pokemon and how I'd make it. I totally thought they'd make one for N64. Without a doubt. It never happened, but I was surprised by how awesome Snap was.

Crap. I was hoping for a Pokemon Snap sequel. I think it was a very original, relaxing game (and original, relaxing games are some of the most understated).

I was really skeptical until I saw the words "a bit like Pokemon Snap."

Consider me a little bit sold.

"Once you've earned a few buddies, you can team up with them for more advanced co-op adventures."

I hope "advanced co-op adventures" is code for "real-time 3D combat in dungeons", which I hope is what that screen with the Charizard is showing.

I'll probably end up getting it regardless, I'm a shameless whore for Nintendo's older franchises.

I want a Pokemon platformer. I think the characters would lend themselves quite nicely to that genre.

I still think a Pokemans MMO on the Wii would make Nintendo 10 bajillion dollars, and it would be fundamentally easy to make too.
As for this...eh.

I would prefer a full Mystery Dungeon or RPG on the Wii but whatever as long as their still working on stuff I'm fine. I'll just be skipping this one little title and play something else.

@Diverse

LIES! No one liked Pokemon Channel!

I really hope this comes out Stateside.

The entire article had my full attention, and the only thing that didn't sit all too well was the $50 dollar part.

I'm poor. :[

This is probably going to be this generation's equivalent to "Hey You, Pikachu!" or "Pokemon Channel" it'll be a fun little busybox for young gamers but it probably won't satisfy anyone looking for a real pokemon game.

me? I just want a Battle Revolution upgrade, which allows for the new features added in platinum, Gold, and Silver (variable formes, etc.) and perhaps a more cohesive story mode instead of just "fight in this arena, now fight in the next one."
