Nintendo announces Nintendo TVii service for Wii U

9:40 AM on 09.13.2012 // Chad Concelmo

[Update: Trailer for Nintendo TVii has been added.]

At its Wii U press event this morning. Nintendo announced "Nintendo TVii," an interactive way of watching T.V. on your Wii U GamePad.

In the demo, the Nintendo representative was shown scrolling through various television shows through live T.V., TiVo, Netflix, and Hulu. Each user's experience is personal, as displayed through their Mii in the corner of the screen. You can choose favorite shows, make recommendations, and chat with friends while watching.

The social interaction of this entire experience was really pushed during the live demonstration (polls, emoticon reactions, etc.). "Nintendo TVii is changing what you watch and how you watch."

Personally, I will probably not use this very often (I say that now until I totally get sucked in once I have a Wii U), but this is a smart move from Nintendo. I can genuinely see many families around the world loving the simplicity and convenience of this. Also, it's free with the system!

What do you think? I can already tell this is going to be a very polarizing addition to the Wii U. Let's discuss! Will you watch the finale to Breaking Bad next summer on Nintendo TVii?
