And here it is. After months of anticipation, we now know (almost) exactly how much longer we're going to have to wait for the 3DS to be in our hot, little hands. At their press conference tonight, Nintendo has set a release date of February 26th for the release of the new handheld, with a more vague "March" release in Europe and North America.
As for pricing? Nintendo says the device will retail for ¥25000 (roughly $300 US). Yeowch. No information was offered on pricing elsewhere in the world, with Nintendo of Japan stating that the information will be disseminated by their regional offices in the days to come.
I hope it's not $300 in North America, but it would not surprise me in the slightest. They seem to be packing a lot of features into the thing. Would you pay that much to get this sweetness all to yourself?

I'm guessing there'll be an article about this, but hey everybody!
Portable Virtual Console! :'D
I mean it seems a bit silly for it to cost more than a Wii and as much as a 360 elite or PS3.
...but I guess that's the average entry point for the iPod touch right? Nobody buys the $229 model do they?
Sorry Nintendo. I have a tuition and bills. And food. And a shitty college freshman income.
A bit steep, but the PSP was launched with more or less that price (around 25000 yen) so it's not mind boggling either.
Right now I want to see it in action more than anything, and if all goes well the desire to own one would follow.
I can already hear parents nation wide wanting free repairs on their $300 3DS that little Billy dropped in the driveway or let the baby drool on. I've actually had people call in for a repair on a DS Lite that was "owned" by an 18 month old! WTF! If you don't want to continue paying $60 to $85 every 3-6 months for repairs to the electric babysitter, maybe you should stop buying multi-hundred dollar toys for them between ages 0-10. Sorry for the rant. :)
I am way, way overdue for a new DS as is.
Nintendo are as big hard-core control freaks as Apple.
How much are the games going to cost? $40? $50? I'm sorry, but that's just not doable for me. 3D or no.
Fuck. That.
I'm going to wait until then to be interested, I have learned my mistakes from the 360/PS3 Slim, multiple PSP reiterations and Iphone disasters.
Sorry Nintendo, I messed up before but even with Ocarina of Time, I just have to draw the line. Besides, I'm sure with the huge AAA games coming out in 2011/2012, I'll be too busy to be worried.
I'll wait for price drops.
$300 is pretty hard to stomache for a handheld.. wow.
Show me $250, I'll consider it. $200 and I'm sold. Hell, at $200 I'll still spend $300, I'll just do it buying Kid Icarus and Mega Man.
